okay i know this has been posted before but theres more. so as you all know, text messaging is getting rediculous costing, like..more than an additional line, which is pretty sad. anyways here comes my question

so right now on my primary line i have Unlimited SMS, $10 Credit, & Vision. all for free for whatever reason they were giving that out for free when we signed up.

and of corse, my line is one of the additional ones. right now i have the $5 vision pack with $5 credit and no SMS. i want text messaging, but dont feel like paying 15, 8, or even 5 for it. i email CS asking if i were to switch primary lines if my unlimited sms and $10 credit for free would opt on the new line and they said yes. i want to do this but my brother whos phone is the primary line wants the text messaging and credit. so is there anyway i can get text messaging cheap on my additional line? or how could i do this

any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would not do any switching as they may screw up the account. I would email e-care again and ask them about adding sms onto line x which ever you are. They should be able to give it to you as the add-a-line $5 for unlimited (if not free). You shouldn't have to pay these new higher rates.

Ditto. I would be VERY wary of switching anything on your plan.

It is my understanding that if you want to add a phone - without changing your primary line - it will use the features from that primary line...

Example: I have 3 lines - The third line is the $20/mo with Unlimited SMS/Vision/etc. If I were to add a fourth, it is my understanding that I would pay another $20/mo and get Unlimited SMS/Vision/etc. I *think* the codes for the secondary lines are tied into the primary line.

I just signed up for Sprint a couple weeks ago. I called last night to have them add the unlimited sms (first month free). They rep said, no problem, let me see if I can add it for $5.00/mo after that. I said, great! He came back and said he was able to add it for $2.50/mo (unlimited SMS).

This might be another stupid question, but what's the difference between ECare and calling a CSR? Is ECare somehow more competent? I worked in a call center for a long time, I know how idiotic some CSRs can be :p

eCare... well, I just find it more convenient than having to actually speak with a CSR. A lot of people on here seem to have better luck getting this resolved with eCare. I am not one of those people. I get the dumbest kids they employ, it seems. I tried getting some things taken care of this weekend through eCare and got absolutely nowhere with them. So now it's time to tackle the phones. Bleh.

Ill tell my experience. My son ported to Tbone for the sidekick but came back to Sprint when he seen the specs of the blade. When I ported him back to Sprint I added him as a sub line and his vision went from pervious $5 to $7.50 plus from free unlimited texting to $8.00 however I was talking to a tech support rep on another incident....he got real chummy almost flirting with me so I asked if I could get some kind of break on my ported back line....he looked at the account a changed me back to 5 dollar vision and gave my $2.50 texting unlimited....even gave my son back his vision download credit...He was awesome so much so I asked to speak with his supervisor which I gave him a thanks for your help and excellent job done remark.

hmmm, this is all very interesting. I wonder what i could get swung my way on some unlimited texting since i have been a customer for over 6 years with Sprint and have paid my bills in full every month. I do think 15.00 for unlimited text messaging is ridiculous. That is almost have the price i pay for my monthly bill. I think SMS should be included in the unlimited vision plan also. You should not have to pay 15 to 20 for unlimited vision and then another 15 for unlimited text. That is crazy imho

Does SMS show up as "wireless web messaging"? I just looked at my usage at the Sprint site and I have "unlimited" listed. Are these the same thing? I ask because I am one of the GF'd users that gave it up for PV and it might mean that others will be getting SMS back too?
TIA

Thanks for the clarification Deval! Well, that means it is possible to keep our unlimited SMS when upgrading to the PV via Vision GF. I really didn't ask for any changes at the Sprint center, the sales rep just said we would have to upgrade to swap my ESN. It just seems that there really isn't a fixed set of rules...it's really whatever your rep can get into the system at that given day?
Hope this transfers over for others too, as I don't even use SMS that much. Now to decipher my TV package...LOL

I had my account messed up too. I emailed ecare and got free 6pm night minutes and texting unlimited for $15.00.. So in other words i got the same thing i had before on my phone!!

Hi Guy

I understand that you had the Text Messaging plan on your account for
just $5.00 per month; however, that option is now available at $15.00
per month.

First of all, please be assured that we are here to make things easier
for you and are committed to resolve all your concerns.

Adding the Unlimited SMS Pack for $5.00 will not be possible; however, I
would like to give you a different offer. I see that you also have the
6pm Night and weekend option in your monthly plan.

I will make this option for free and will add the Unlimited SMS Pack for
$15.00. In this way, you will get both the options for $15.00 monthly
service charge. This will surely serve the purpose.

Assuming that you will like this offer and also to prevent your efforts
of writing another email, I have already done the needful. Now, you may
enjoy the Unlimited Text Messaging and the night hours starting at 6
p.m. for just $15.00 per month.

NOTE: I have removed the 500 SMS Pack that you added as of
12/16/2005 for a monthly service charge of $8.00 per month.

It is always a pleasure to provide prompt assistance to our valued
customers like you. In case you have any other queries, suggestions or
comments please do feel free to contact us. It will be our privilege to
assist you.

We are committed to providing you with accurate and timely solutions to
your issues, so that we make your experience with us a memorable one.

It is always a pleasure assisting you. Have a great day!

so for an extra $7.00 a month they bumped you from 500 messages to unlimited and put you on 6pm night and weekends.

I am curious, what was your night and weekend starting time before the bump. Was it 7, 8, or 9 pm?

bumping from say 7pm to 6pm would regularly cost 5.00 more dollars. So if you were at 7pm then basically this is what the ecare did for you.

You were paying $8.00 a month for 500 SMS messages.

So he moved you from 7pm to 6pm for $5.00 more, which is what anyone else would pay. Now you would be at $13.00 a month. Then he gave you unlimited SMS for $2.00 more upgrading you from 500 SMS messages. So basically what he did was gave you $5.00 a month off on Unlimited SMS which cost 15.00 a month. I figure this because you were paying 8.00 for 500 SMS. Unlimited is 15.00. So for 2.00 more he gave you Unlimited SMS which puts you at 10.00 a month for Unlimited SMS. Then bumped you from 7pm (this is of course if you were on 7pm N&W) to 6pm which would cost anyone 5.00, and that is what he charged you for the bump also. Now totaling you at 15.00 a month.

Now if you were originally using 9pm night and weekend starting time then i say you got a nice little deal saving you a few dollars and if you were actually using more than your 500 SMS messages a month. But if you were never using all your 500 SMS messages a month and your N&W were at 7pm when before the change, then you got a slight deal, but nothing major. Maybe enough to buy you one extra beer at the bar per month. But then i guess, some saving is better than none.

I find it truely amazing if people use more than 500 SMS messages a month on their cell phone. I don't know about some people but i use my cell phone to talk to people, not type to them. I may use 50 or so SMS messages a month at most, some months probably none at all. The only way i could even imagine people using more than 500 SMS a month is high school kids who are texting back and forth among friends during class. I don't see adults using SMS that much.

morfinx
12-16-2005, 01:47 PM
Well, after numerous exchanges, ECare says the best they can do is give me 2 mo free on text messaging, then back to normal price:

Dear Morfinx,

It is nice to hear from you again.

Let me clarify that if a PCS Customer has two phones on the account, the
secondary phone can get the text messaging plan for the half price which
is paid by the primary phone. Your friend must be having two phones on
the account due to which he is getting the text messaging plan for the
half price.

As you are having only one phone on the account, therefore, the system
will not allow me to add the half price text messaging plan on the
account.

We are here to provide you the best deal. Be assured that if there
would have been a better deal for text messaging plan, I would have
offered you the same in the first interaction. We do not you to pay
more than other customers.

Also, we are not offering the text messaging plan free for two months to
all customers but it is only you for which I am providing the text
messaging plan free for two months.

I appreciate you emailing us today.

I already had 6pm night minutes. I had unlimited texting for 5 bucks. 6pm nights 10 bucks, but they took my texting away from me without me knowing when vision was canceled. Called CS and they gave me 500 text for 8$. What ecare did is they took off the 8 dollar crap and let me get everything back for the same price. So in this case i don't lose I get the night minutes for free and unlimited texting for 15$. which is what i was paying from the start. Adding unlimited texting and keeping the night minutes 25 dollars not worth it!! The funny thing is i want to cancel the text messaging... SO i can reap the benefits of free 6pm night minutes!! :headbang2

I agree that text messaging is expensive, but not as expensive as when I was with Cingular a few months ago. 9.99 for 1000 messages is high! I have the $15 unlimited with Sprint currently.

Anyway, I emailed eCare yesterday and mentioned that I work for a company where several of my co-workers get the unlimited text for 7.50/month (true). I asked for the same deal. I received an email back stating that the 7.50 is for a 2nd line (and they are correct; I just didn't know). Anyway, the lady said this:

"However, considering your loyalty, I can offer you the 500 text messaging for $8.00 option free to your account. Please write back to me if you wish to add this option. I will be glad to assist you."

I have never gone over 350 messages/month with Sprint or Cingular, so I replied that I would take the deal, and I thanked for her offering that when she didn't have to. I've only been a customer a couple of months. So now, I have free vision access, free sms, and free m2m just for asking politely. Very nice company! :)

you mite want to call and verify that or look at plan details online because sometimes sprint CS are known to say stuff like that and actually charge you for it, me being an example with past experience. i was told i could get unlimited for $5 and they charged me the whole $15 for it.. i called back and the CS rep said no plan of unlimited for $5 existed

anyways, best of luck

Negotiating works. I emailed Sprint yesterday and asked how much it would cost for me to move to unlimited from my already free 500 sms/month package.

The first rep said it would be $7/month. A 2nd emailed me and stated that the only way they could do it is if I renewed my contract for 2 years. Since I got my contract in December, I figured, what's another 2 months? So I agreed to it.

Then, I got this response:

Dear XXXXX,

Thanks once again for writing back to me.

As per your request I have added Unlimited text messaging plan to the account for free.

For your convenience I have not renewed the contract. It started on December 19, 2005 and will expire on December 19, 2007.

I would like to be sure that I have resolved your issues up to your satisfaction. Any feedback from you will further motivate me. Have a nice day.

My experience with Sprint has trumpted that of mine with Cingular. I will refer everyone I can to Sprint (hey, the $25 credit doesn't hurt either :)). They are a good company who is willing to work with you. From my experience, emailing them is the best option vs calling. I prob will never use a whole bunch of sms messages, but it's nice to have the unlimited option. :) I hope this info helps.

If I can ask a couple more questions.

Is ecare1@cc.sprintpcs.com a different email then the one you get when emailing through the web based form? Every email I've gotten back from doing the online form has been ecare3@cc.sprintpcs.com.

Also, if I email directly to ecare1@cc.sprintpcs.com is there a limit on the number of characters I can use like on the online form (please don't think this is too dumb)?

What in the hell have I started? :scare:

My email had nothing to do with this thread...just sharing info. We have 5 lines on 1 account so our bill is pretty high so Sprint is getting plenty of money from us. Not that I should have to defend myself or actions.

LOL, i just did the same thing with 3 of my phones. ECare gave me 500/month for free, 1 year for one phone, 2 years for another, and the third they didn't mention for how long. I was going to try to email them and ask a while ago, forgot about it, u reminded me, THANKS! lol. The thing is, Sprint has their system in place, they pay roughly the same when more ppl are using it anyway (given no overload of coz).

They didn't mention a time limit on mine...hmm...

That is so true. Can't really tell the tones in people's voices when they type.
That's what smileys are for. :)

I wrote to ecare and explained to them the different rates of other carriers such as t-mobile offers 400 texts for 5 bucks while sprint will only give 100 for 5 bucks. I asked if they can try to match that plan for me. 2 hours later I get a reply and the guy gave me 500 text messages for free. I didn't even ask for it. I was pretty amazed at the service ecare provides!

i think mentioning another carrier threatens them and makes them want to keep you their customer.

i wrote an email to them, and mention that their rates are unbelievable compaired to t-mobile and verizon and they gave me unlimited text messages for free if i signed a 2 year contract :wavey:

sprint is the best

They are getting generous with the text messaging; they offered my 500 free on both lines when I showed them how SERO would actually cost me more than my current plan...but $7.50 for unl. text on both lines just doesn't make it worth it...

They do normally send an auto-reply email. Check your Spam/Junk Mail box to see if it routed there. Otherwise, they could just be really behind today. Most companies are on the 1st of the month with a surge of emails/phone calls, etc. Wait until late this evening, and then re-email them if no reply.

Or just use Contact Us after logging in, that ensures that it will go through.

I didn't read through this entire thread but I wanted to share my recent experience with text message charges. I have a fair and flex for families plan. 550min/500txt/PVplus. So picture mail is of course unlimited with the PVplus. This past month the second phone on my account used 1200 messages. That's 700 over limit, $70 additional @ $0.10 per. The total bill was $192.63!!!

I swapped esns from a 325 to a 7500. They transfered the $5 unlimited text from the 325 to the 7500. I didn't even ask. I have the $20 Power Vision plain and $5 unlimited text.

I *think* the codes for the secondary lines are tied into the primary line.

should my lines features be free

I called retention after they were unable to transfer my $5 unlimited option over to my new A900, and they said that they would give it to me for free. I called later to confirm and the rep said that I was correct and that it was free for a year. Is this correct, or will I have it as long as I keep signing new contracts? When I log onto my plan, it says that my agreement ended in Feb of 06. Can this be correct? I just got a new A900 from retention and free SMS for a year....not to mention, SERO
