I have a Samsung i500.
I forward a copy of my emails to <myname>@sprintpcs.com. I have turned on the email notification feature. When I get a notification it reads like this.
From: Unknown
Callback#: Unknown
Date: 10/4/05 6:47 pm
Message: From:
<myname>@sprintpcs.com
Subject:You have mail from
"SprintUsers.
"Check your PCS Mail!"
As you can see the only real useful information is "SprintUsers."
I would like to see more than 12 characters of the email.
I tested forwarding a copy of me emails to <mynumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
This is what I receive.

Now this option is much more attractive because I get more than 80 characters of the email. However when I use <mynumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com the size of the email seems to matter. I do not get notifications with large emails or one with an attachment. I realize that I will not get more than the 80 characters or so but I am only interested in getting notified when I have an email. I download the emails using another application.
So my question is:
#1 Can the standard email notification be modified to include more text?
#2 If you send a large email to <mynumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com is it rejected and not sent?
#3 Is their a way to have the email truncated before being sent to <mynumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com? A third party application? Its a Scalix mail server.
Thanks,

I have been wondering this for a while too, on several different carriers. I think T-Mobile was the only one I had that would automatically split larger messages into several SMS.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but this explains a lot. The exact same thing is happening to me. I also recently changed my notification to <mynumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting notifications on some emails. Now I see that emails with attachments and large emails are not going through.
I believe the answer to your #2 is Yes, because I have my ISP forward all emails to my phone, so Sprint is obviously rejecting the larger ones.
If anyone has answers to the other two questions, it would be much appreciated.

What I did was turned on the forwarding to XXXXXXXXXX@messaging.sprintpcs.com this way I still get "notified" and I can read a good portion of the email, but like Jump I quickly learned that emails with attachments don't make it through.

If you have picturemail, you can forward it to your PM email address. xxxxx@pm.sprint.com You'll get a text message that you have a new picturemail, then can go online with Vision to read it.

People have been trying this for a long, long time. You used to be able to get this Email Viewer program but it's no longer available. Now I think the only option is to get PCS Business Connection through Sprint but it's expensive. I have it for $15/month, but it includes unlimited Vision, SMS & Picture Mail. It's no longer available in a package like that I don't think.
It is really nice, though. You can set it to text you when emails come in and you check your mail over Vision. I run Outlook so it gives me access to my email (all folders), calendar, contacts, notes and anything under 5MB in My Documents.
It just... isn't free. But I do think, for what you're wanting out of email forwarding, this is the only thing that would do the trick. At least that we know of now.
As always, I could be wrong, but this topic has been long-debated.
*EDIT*
Here's a short explanation of how it works:
PCS Business Connection provides a desktop client and many smart device clients that you can use to access your corporate and personal data. You download the Personal Edition desktop client and smart device clients from the Downloads page. The Personal Edition desktop client is installed automatically during your initial registration

I would rather just have it forward to PCS mail, since you have to connect to Vision to read it anyway. At least with it going to PCS mail you can get it to notify you with an SMS and very very short part of the msg.
Either way it sux :indiff:

jh101_7,
I just tried turning off the Body field hoping the email would not be rejected based on size. However I got a bounce back when I sent a large email.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
Is there a service or a program out there that would automatically tuncate emails and forward them? What about an Outlook rule or something?
