Is there any apps for me to access ICQ?

I don't believe there are. I'm 99.999% sure.

So YOU are the one who still uses ICQ?!

Would any Java AIM app not do this since I think they are the same network now?

AIM and ICQ don't interact with each other.

Depends on how you look at it.

yes they do. they are owned by AOL, and you can add an ICQ number to your AOL list, and viceversa on ICQ

Exactly. Which makes me wonder if the same is possible using any AIM client, or if you must have AOL's. I'm too lazy to try it; even if I had the energy, I don't know anybody who has used ICQ since the turn of the century, so I couldn't exactly test it anyway.

Chas asked me if I had ever heard of IM+, a java app for phones that lets you use one client for the following messengers: ICQ, AOL, MSN, Yahoo and Jabber (who?). I hadn't heard of it, and I haven't tried it yet, but I figured it was worth posting here in case there are any people willing to become guinea pigs. See, I only use AIM on my phone, and I don't use it very often. So I'm not a good person to test this.

I did find a free download--it seems to be freeware to begin with:
http://www.getjar.com/products/1296/IMMobileInstantMessengerforJavaPhones

You will need the Gtoal uploader for this, I believe:

I found this Google Talk Java app called MGTalk:
http://mgtalk.sourceforge.net/

It runs ok, setup the client, but when I try to connect It gives me
"PLAIN AUTHENTICATION" error and gets stuck in a loop.

I have tried toggling SSL on and off and it just changes the error message.
Anyone get this to work?

The app runs fine on my Samsung A920 so it will probably work on most Sprint phones.

I've found that ICQ *does* work well with an app called JIMM. That's JAVA Instant Mobile Messenger.

It's best to go to the WAP site and download the right .jar file instead of going there on your computer's web browser.

Since I have the Katana and didn't know which version to get, (there's MANY to choose from) I just chose "Any Mobile", then chose "Traffic, History, and Smiles", English, and Start downloading.

Of course, this is the latest version of 0.5.1

The WAP site is http://www.jimm.org/download/

*Special note for Chasx* I had the VGA 1000 and the version I used on it was the traffic version only because the VGA 1000 only has 1 MB of memory. The version with all modules was just too "heavy" for it.

Update:

It seems that as of this time, the JIMM client no longer runs on Sprint's network. I've tried many times with the most current version, and a few earlier versions to connect, but I get an "unexpected error" or an "error #118" connection message.

I need to confirm if this has been blocked by the network, or it's just my phone.

Please help.
