I have been a smartphone user for a fairly long time now. Starting from the Treo 150, I have owned pretty much all the Treo phones and couple of MS phones as well. I will be comparing most of the features with my prior device, the Treo 650
1) Battery - The battery is way underaverage, I got close to 3 hours with just the Cell radio on and WiFi and bluetooth turned off. I get atleast 5+ hours with the T650
2) Reception - Sucks, getting around 2-3 bars at home, while the Treo gets me 4-5. The EVDO service is really shaky, the service comes in and out in a blink of an eye, is not steady at all. Big improvements needed, EVDO unfortunately is just not fully mainstream yet.
3) Size/weight - Coming from the Treo650 the weight is actually not so bad at all, feels exactly the same. The size is another pre****ament, a lil closer to an inch of thickness. The device also feels a lil more flimsy than the Treo due to the sliding keyboard mechanism and the cheap plastic casing.
4) Screen - The screen is almost identical to the Treo or if seen in detail, just a tad less brighter than the Treo. It is actually quite readable in direct sunlight as the Treo is.
5) Menus/Speed - Thumbs way down. I was expecting the new version of Windows Mobile 5.0 to be a huge step forward. Unfortunately it does not feel like this device has a 400mhz processor. There is a significant lag while switching apps and even typing. Going from horizontal to landscape is also slow with very sluggish rendering of the screen. There is also a very strange flicker when the device is turned on (could be a bad unit). The phone app does not have alot of neat features as you would find in the sanyo or samsung phones. Just the basics.
6) Phone - The phone part is actually better than the Treo, no one could tell I was on a cell phone. The loud speaker is lousy though, it can hardly be labeled a external speaker, that's how bad it is. Dialing #'s is a lil tricky on the touch screen but works fine when one gets used to it.
7) Bluetooth - A very big improvement over the Treo. Maybe it is the 1.2 version or difference in hardware. I had no static with the Jabra 250, while the Treo had noticeable static at even 3 meter lenght.
Get this PDA/phone if you definately want WiFi, EVDO (if you have a stable EVDO connection) It can also be used as a modem and with a $15 EVDO vision plan, is great compared to the $60 PC-card package. Do not get it If you are replacing a Treo650, which has actually earned more respect from me after purchasing the 6700. This device has been a huge dissapointment, I believe the people who are satisfied with the 6700 are first time buyers of a PDA/phone or coming from really outdated devices.
If anyone wants comparison pics of this device next to a Treo650 email me cadavar(at)gmail.com
