Nifty article - Thanks for the post! :). I was not aware that MobiTV won an emmy though! MobiTV2 does sound fairly interesting though!

:good: Great find! Thanks for the article. It really says alot about the carriers and whay they are doing to improve and push this video content to our mobile phones. I know that Sprint is really interested in what they call the "3rd Screen" (our mobile phones) and are very dedicated into improving and providing multimedia rich content right to our phones. Very interesting. It's nice to see that we are catching up to the Japanese and Korean markets. Real claims that thier service for Cingular will offer 30 frames per second. That's impressive. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Article Highlights:
TV for cell phones
-- Qualcomm is working to build a system to transmit live TV and stored clips directly to handsets, independent of cellular networks.
-- MobiTV, which won an Emmy for its TV service, is releasing MobiTV2, a new platform with a better channel guide and on-demand premium video.
-- RealNetworks is entering into a partnership with Cingular to deliver high-quality video with interactive capabilities.
I agree with Qualcomm putting together a system to trasmit live TV, that way the carriers don't have to worry about it so much and it can be like another MobiTV like service but hopefully way improved. I like the idea of "on-deman" content but not for everthing. On-Demand (if only 2-5 minute content) can be cool for highlights or news briefs and movie trailers but if they want to offer on-demand movies or shows that would be awesome. I also like the idea of live TV because it gives you the same experience that you get at home. I would love to be able to keep watching the same program I was watching on TV while on the go on my mobile phone.
