Did anyone catch the race Sunday night. It was the first weekend since the merge was official. SPRINT HIT IT HARD!!! Every break had at least one Sprint commercial. All with the new colors and logo. What's funny is that it's the NEXTEL cup this and next year but every phone they showed was a Sprint phone...now they just need to boost Sprint service at the tracks. Nextel brings in at least 10 tower boosters for each race weekend so ALL Nextel phones can make calls.

No, nothing will ever be the same as WINSTON CUP! NEXTEL CUP i'm getting used to. Plus you have to remeber there is a racing series were they drive "sprint cars". SPINT CUP just sounds soo weak
P.S.
Hey jets take it easy on Dale Jarret! He is one of the cleanest racer around. Please he's a former champion. So cut him some slack

Two things I found interesting today
Pikes Peak Raceway To Close
Nine years after cars first took to the track at Pikes Peak International Raceway, the facility is being sold to a company that will close it. PPIR president Rob Johnson made the announcement Friday morning in a press release. Hey says he's proud of the impact the organization made on Colorado motorsports and the local economy. The raceway will sell its assets to Rocky Mountain Speedway Corporation, a subsidiary of International Speedway Corporation. ISC plans to sell off the equipment at PPIR to other raceways and then put the land up for sale. The raceway is on 1,200 acres. ISC reportedly plans to honor all previously-scheduled events through October 31st, then close the raceway. ISC is expected to petition NASCAR to realign PPIR's NASCAR Busch Series event to Martinsville Speedway in Henry County, Va. for the 2006 season. Sixteen permanent employees will be offered severance packages, and some will help close the facility. Besides hosting numerous sanctioned racing events, PPIR has also served as an entertainment venue for singers such as Tracy Lawrence, Martina McBride and Hootie and the Blowfish. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy has also performed there, as well as daredevil Robbie Knievel
This is a drag for me. The IRL cars pulled out a few weeks ago abd I guess they could not take the loss of income
Restrictor Plates At Lowe's?
With less than rave reviews of the ever-changing track surface at Lowe's Motor Speedway from Chasers Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Mark Martin afer a test last week, NASCAR officials are considering running restrictor plates on the cars in the October 15 race at Charlotte. Stewart and Biffle wrecked two cars apiece during the tests. After plowing his car at 170 mph into the Turn 2 wall, Biffle felt the aftereffects last weekend at Dover. "From the eye, the track looks good," Biffle says. But the tire compound doesn't work well with the track's new surface. NASCAR doesn't expect any relief until the track is repaved after the race
Wow...I did not know that about Pikes Peak. I don't understand. What's all this talk about getting NASCAR to other places outside the southeast and then they go and close that track. They SHOULD be putting a cup race THERE instead of 2 in California!
Restrictor plates? That won't happen. The track will have more grip under the lights. Sure, it will be a little dangerous but the race will be fine. Humpy will HAVE to re-pave for next year though! I'll be there for the Coke 600!!!

I am thinking back to the first Charlot and the Winston. I don't remember there being any HARD!! wrecks. Yea the were wrecks but no more then you would see at Atlanta or other mile or larger tracks.
I think they are making a mountain from a mole hill thinking how exciting Daga and Datona are with the plates. So lets get another. I don't think the Winston would be as good. To many rookies in the short races trying to get into the Winston so you would not see them "finding long term friendships"

Todd Berrier, crew chief for the No. 29 Richard Childress Chevrolet, was ejected from Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday after NASCAR found several violations in the post-qualifying inspection. A statement was issued from Richard Childress concerning Berrier and other things on his mind. (PLEASE GIVE US YOUR OPINION ON THE SITUATION AND BERRIER BEING ESCORTED OFF THE PREMISES..)"Well, I don't think he was escorted, he was just told he needed to leave, to clarify that. The next thing is, I gave my opinion to NASCAR this morning. They know my feelings on that. Let you all figure it out. I was very outspoken with NASCAR this morning and I'm going to leave it at that. I'm biting my tongue.
Harvick's Time Disallowed
Kevin Harvick qualified his Rhichard Childress Chevrolet on the outside pole for Sunday's UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday but a post-qualifying inspection revealed a rules violation and he will have to start the race from the rear of the field. An inspection of the trunk area was in question. NASCAR Communications Manager Jim Hunter said there were three violations. The fuel vent wasn't vented to the ouside of the car, the trunk wasn't properly sealed and doors that open to the rear shocks were open when they should have been closed. Hunter also said that the car passed inspection before the qualifying session. When questioned about the matter, Hunter said, "When you add up the three different things, it looked like it wasn't just sloppy work." Any fines or penalties will normally come by Tuesday of the week following the race. There was some misunderstanding among the media on Friday concerning the status of crew chief Todd Berrier. Most thought that he was still on probation for cheating on a fuel cell at Las Vegas that drew a four-race suspension in March, but Hunter said that he was on suspension only and not on probation

Best Western Will Follow Waltrip
Best Western International, the Official Hotel of NASCAR, announced today that it has partnered with Bill Davis Racing (BDR) as an associate sponsor on the 2006 Dodge Charger driven by NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series fan favorite Michael Waltrip. “We are thrilled to be teaming with Bill Davis Racing in 2006,” said Dorothy Dowling, senior vice president of marketing for Best Western. “A respected member of the NASCAR community who has helped to set the standard for the sport, Bill brings a wealth of experience and demonstrated success to the business. With the addition of Michael, Bill Davis Racing provides us with a complete, marketable package.” Bill Davis announced last week his plans for re-establishing BDR as a multi-car team through a partnership with Waltrip.
The Todd Barrier thing is a BUNCH OF BULL CRAP! Last week the cars of Johnson and Busch were found to have something that is way more out of line than the car of Harvick's. PLUS...they are in the chase! NASCAR does NOTHING with the Hendrick boys who's "cheating" was much more worse than a loose gas overfill nozzle. The shocks were used in the RACE for crying out loud...stupid...stupid...stupid!

Yes, I agree! Kyle Bush went to Dover to test and brought back all the info on what direct effect adjusting the rear shocks 1/4 to 1/2 an inch would make and to run 1 and 2 in the race! That is krap! No points taken away no fine to owner, crew chief, or driver. Don't get me wrong.. I'm no Harvick fan, but to lose your crewchief the day before Talladega is wrong. There is a double standard thta really needs addressed here. It seems players in the chase will not be docked for violatons, just to keep it close

So these things would not do anything that I can see to change the performance, I am no aro specialest but I do know ig I leave my trunk open it moves up and down. It could not change down force because it is bouncing it's self.
To ask the crew chief to leave is NASCAR picking the winner, or picking who they don't want to win.
Last year they did it to Jr. with the cussing on the radio and taking 50 pts.
NASCAR needs to let the drivers pick who will win by driving the car. Not handycaping them.

I also need to call out the 48 and the 12 for their BONEHEAD moves.. atleast the 12 took responsibility for it.. JJ tried to blame it on Junior who wasnt into him until AFTER the 38 went around. OWN UP MAN. This is the second RESTRICTOR plate wreck you have caused, and countless others are attributed to you also- Maybe you need a yellow stripe next year...
Props to Kyle Petty for finishing
Yeah...that's restrictor plate racing. There is nothing else to say. Someone is always going to be causing it. You'd think that it would NOT be the ones that are supposed to be "talented." The best racing all day was inside the last 20 laps. When there are only 10-15 cars up front...that's the best racing. They (NASCAR) needs to find a way so split them up more. I still don't know why a smaller engine can't work, just for the restrictor plate tracks. DJ had a good car all day...I'm happy for him. Unbelievable that he is the 5th oldest winner in NASCAR. This may sound wierd but that very well could be his last NASCAR win...live it up DJ fans. The 20 had a nice 2nd place run. STILL the favorite to take it all in my opinion. Too bad next week we will have a SNOOZER at Kansas. We'll have to wait until Charlotte for another good week of racing!

I dunno.. Kansas wasn't bad last year.. Anything is better than Pocono.
Nemerchek won it last year and Rudd had a good run also :)
I would bet that DJ wins a few more before the fat lady sings- Parrot told Yates last week that if he got moved over they would win before the end of the year. The Parrot/Jarret combo won the championship several years back- while I dont think that will happen again, they are "back on the map"

I didn't get to watch the race today but I will tomorrow.
I went to the Kart Races. I have these 2 1988 Bill Elliot Jackets. The old satin kind that was popular then. Anyway My buddy Lance's boss and kids run Kart cars. Bill Elliot's kids do also and are in the same garage (actualy a tent). Lance had asked his boss for me if he could get the jackets signed. Insted he took us. intrduced us to Bill and he signed my jackets. The only thing was I forgort to get a light collard sharpie so I had him sign the wind shelds of the cars so they would show up better.
Then when he was signing them I forgot to get my phone so I asked him if I could just snap a pic. I got him texting on his nextel

I saw a replay of it I think- he tagged the wall, and lost it and hit everything he could...
I thought it was awesome that he finished though.
Go to NASCAR.com and read Marty Smith's last lap. It talks about NASCAR's inconsistency. Good read, and for once intelligent emails he puts in there.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jimmie Johnson acknowledged Tuesday he was at fault for an eight-car crash at Talladega Superspeedway that scuttled at least one other driver's championship hopes.
Johnson had denied responsibility immediately after Sunday's accident, which cost both himself and Mark Martin valuable ground in the race for the Nextel Cup title.
After watching tape of the accident that occurred 20 laps into the race, Johnson said he realized he ran into the back of leader Elliott Sadler to start the wreck. Johnson initially claimed he was pushed into Sadler by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
"I feel bad, I don't know what else I can say,'' Johnson said. "I started a wreck and took out a lot of good cars. That was the last thing I intended to do and I feel horrible for it. So I'm taking the responsibility.
"I needed to see the video to really understand what took place.''
Johnson and Martin were the only two Chase for the championship drivers caught in the accident and it cost them dearly.
Johnson, who was involved in a later accident that ended his day, dropped from the top of the Nextel Cup leaderboard to fourth and is now 82 points behind new leader Tony Stewart.
Martin, meanwhile, plummeted to ninth in the standings and is 138 points back. He was angry after the accident, but criticized the racing conditions instead of Johnson.
But Johnson was widely blamed by the other drivers in the accident, especially Sadler.
"I guess he's trying to keep his streak alive -- he caused a big wreck here last year and he caused a big one again this year,'' Sadler snapped. "Maybe that's his way of racing here at Talladega ... try to get rid of everybody so he can win the race.''

Johnson said he has apologized to Sadler, and left a message for Michael Waltrip, who flipped several times during the accident. He now believes the accident was caused because he got too close to Sadler entering the first turn, causing Sadler's car to bobble.
Sadler had to slow to save it, and Johnson rammed into the back of him. Earnhardt then hit Johnson, starting the chain-reaction crash.
"That's the last thing in the world I wanted to do,'' Johnson said. "I went and spoke to Elliott immediately after the race and he knew. Even though he was upset, he apologized for saying some harsh things, but he knew what took place and that I got him loose before I actually got into him.
"I apologized.''
Johnson also was blamed for starting a 25-car accident at Talladega in April, a wreck that led Earnhardt to call him an "idiot'' and create a wave of criticism about Johnson's driving style.
He said he knows this latest accident will follow him this weekend into Kansas, the fourth of the 10 races in the championship chase.
"It's not going to just disappear over the course of a week,'' he said. "I've just got to get in there and do my job and do the best that I can and try to get a couple weeks behind us and move on.''
It's nice that he admists that he's at fault AFTER watching the videotape. How convenient. And what's up with Harvicks crewchief getting suspended for another 2 races and Johnson's crewchief getting NOTHING when Knaus' cheating WON A FREAKIN RACE!?!? Hello! Something just doesn't make sense here!

This is were I have a problem! in 2002 when he finished 2nd to Tony he said before the fall Atlanta race he said he didn't deserve to win it! I believe in MM, I think he has what it takes! It seems he talked himself out of it in 2002 and he;s trying to do it again this year! He has been #2 4 times I honestly think he has it in him this year! If MM was to beat out Tony for the Championship I would not be upset. Everyone respects MM, but on the other hand don't freak'n tell me 113 point is too far back!!! Well my friends.. In my humble opinion tonight is the real "Wild Card" race in the NEXTEL CHASE for the CUP. There were a record number of cautions last night in the BUSCH SERIES fall race race @ LOWES! 14 in all, and we can expect to see the same tonight! This will be the race (I believe) that Kurt Busch will make or break his championship hopes for 2005. MM (Mark Matin) usually runs well there so this could be a huge points night for him. Tony Steart crashed out of the BUSH SERIES race last night with less than 10 to go. I honestly don't see him trying to make any risky passes that called an early end to his race last night tonight. I knew that when he got that good run on Ryan he was going to go for it! And going into turn 4 he did and paid the price for it. We was simply going for the win .Tonight that will not be the case. Most passing will happen on the back strech or on the exit of 4. There are ten guys with a lot to loss tonight. Heavier and faster cars means we will have as many if not more cautions than last night.
I would agree with you on most of that. Busch however is OUT! That is such a good thing. Tonight there will be a lot of crashes. I do think that the group of drivers tonight are smarter and they saw what happened last night so they are going to be tip toeing a little bit, at least through most of the race. What Tony and anyone needing a good points night needs to do is race smart. Simply stay on the lead lap. Keep your car adjusted perfectly but save it. When it gets inside 100 miles to go, then show what you have. There are going to be some big points shakeups. You will see someone else in a chase eliminated tonight. Busch already is out, if Mayfield isn't in the top 10, he will be out. I hate so say it, but anyone from 2-8 in the standings will be OUT OF THE CHASE if they are caught up in anything tonight. There will be only 5 races left to redeem yourself and that will be tough.

The on thing I have learned from watching Tony Stewart all these years is that you cannot count anyone out until the math says so. I KB cannot come up with a yop 10 tonight, maybe. But ROUCH racing has bee so strong all year that any of his drivers can be dangerous anytime

Stewert screwed up...he did just what I said NOT to do. TAKE IT EASY BEVIS! Oh well...he still has the points lead and I STILL say it's his to loose. It's funny with 10 drivers and 10 races in the chase there is pretty much one guy eliminated each week. That person was Wallace this week. The champ will come from this list:
Stewart
Johnson
Biffle
Newman
Martin
Tune in next week to see who is eliminated at Martinsville. My guess is Biffle...
PS-this is 8jr...signed in under my bro-in-law on accident!

I don't know what race you were watching! But Tony didn't screw-up. The 20 had no, I repeat 0 tire problems up until that point. His tire went down because he ran over a peice of debris on the track. HE had the fastest car and was trying to lead the most laps! Tony always runs strong @ LOWES so his getting to the front was no surprise.
Let's be very clear about somrthing else also! There is no reason to count out anyone out. Keep in mind the max point swing in 1 race is 156. KB is only 146 back with 5 races left, if you do the math no one is out! It is nice to look @ the five drivers you listed and say yeah thats it, and you may very well be right. But the brought out this stupid CHASE for the CUP so we all couls have something to watch during the race. I'm telling you counting out 3 ROUCH cars this early is a mistake.

That race made me cry last night.. every 20 friggin laps there was a caution.. I cant completely blame Humpy, but jesus i always learned if it aint broke, dont fix it. The tires sucked, and the surface sucked, and some teams were not smart enough to follow the manufacturers suggestions about tires...
Goodyear needs to do something.. Their tires this year have blown, and the poor surface at Lowes just exacerbated an already bad situation. Last night sucked.
And, NO Tony didnt screw up, heck, 15, 2,17,12,8 and all the others didnt screw up.. As a matter of fact I dont think there was any boneheaded moves last night, just circumstance.

Ok so now Johnson and Stewart are tied for the lead in points with a handful of races to go... what if there was a tie after the final race? Does anybody know what Nascar would do to decide the champion? I was thinking maybe the guy with the most wins, or the most laps led during the season. It looks like a good possibility this could happen.

If there is a ite @ the end of the season the driver with the most wins will get the title
Stewart with 5 Wins (this season would win the title! And no, it prob will not happen. All the traks that are in the last 5 are strong tracks for Tony. If he can stay out of trouble, its a lock! Keep an eye though on all the ROUCH cars they could make a statement in these last five. But the title is Tony'd to lose...

Speeds at martinsville have go up since the spring race there! 10 drivers including Tony Stewart posted track record speeds just in practice. In the end, Tony was able to come away with the pole for Sundays race.
I was not aware of that. I'm missing Martinsville this time. I was at the Spring race, and 4 of the last 5 there....I'm getting sick of seeing Gordon win everytime I go there (3 of 4) and Johnson winning at Charlotte (last 3). It will be interesting to watch Wallace. Truely his last chance at a victory in his career probably. And another chaser will be eliminated this week. I pick Biffle, never real strong on short tracks.

Ok, here we go again...MARTINSVILLE 500 laps of beating and banging. What do we end up with?
Things that are the same form the spring:
-Tony leads the most laps
-Waltrip wrecks
-Biffle who was a lap down with less than 25 to go is aginb holding up the leaders
-Less than 25 cars on the lead lap
-Godon wins.
Here's whats diffent from the spring race:
-Jimmy Johnson does his now famous crybaby act!
-Rusty get taken out trying to avoid a wreck!?
-ROUCH cars are all horrible!
I must say though, it was a good race. Denny Hamlin was very impressive! Another top 10 finish! JD will have a hard time selling not putting Denny in the 11 next season if he keeps this up!
Tony now has a 15 point lead over JJ, and going into Atlanta next week it will be very exciting because the 20 and the 48 run well there.
Ok, it's time to make it offical! Without a win (that's right I said it) A WIN at Atlanta Jeremy Mayfield is done! Kenseth, Busch, Martin, and Wallace will have to bring thier A game to Atlanta (at least top 5's) next week or it will be nails in thier coffins as well.

Welcome to Atlanta boys and girls!!!!
I guarantee that this will be the best race in the chase so far hands down. As I stated ealier.. .Mayfield has to win to have any shot @ winning the cup. Rusty, Kurt, Matt, and Mark could be done without top 10's this will I SAY AGAIN, this will be the race where people will be eliminated from the chase. This will be really interesting with the crybaby (Jimmy Johnson) starting directly behind Tony. Who knows he may get more reasons to cry about people racing him hard by the end of the day tomorrow. What a scumbag!!!!

Ok here is your offical post race report!
-Carl Edwards wins and keeps his hopes alive for a championship.
-As I stated in my earlier post We had some fatalities today:
Jeremey Mayfield -310
Kurt Busch -260
Rusty Wallace -257
These 3 drivers are now out of the chase!
These guys are hanging on as I predicted with top 10's
Matt Kenseth -155
Mark Martin -143
Ryan Newman had a horrible day. Texas will be the big test for him! He always runs well there. Right now -107 tied with Carl Edwards for 4th. I really don't want to count Edwards or Newman out right now. Anyone inside that 107 pt bracket can still win this thing.
My final word is:
Jimmy Johnson is still a scumbag

I agree with all that. I still think its Smokes championship to lose. Kurt Bush withdrew too much money from the luck bank.
Speaking of 06, there are some WONDERFUL/ Interesting rumors floating around for 06 and beyond.
Drivers currently looking for rides
Wimmer
Blaney
Rudd
Schrader
B Labonte
Green
Hamilton Jr.
There are several other drivers looking such as Andretti, but these are the only ones that currently have full time rides.
Also rumor has it as T Labonte in the HOF car for the first 5 races next year.

There are alot of open seats for next year, that is true. I really hope that if Bobby cannot or will not come back next season, they have some one who can really fill that seat! As far a I'm concerned, the 11 car's seat is filled! Denny Hamlin is a driver of Tony Stewart/ Ryan Newman caliber! With that being said, if youcaould find a driver that has that same fire to fill the 18 seat... Screw ROUCH! Joe Gibbs will have the best stable in NEXTEL Cup! I don't think JJ Yely is ready yet. I dont think that B.L. is a bad driver at all. For some reason he has had an off two years. VERY bad luck and no chemistry. It is time for him to move on. I think Dj and the 88 Will be competitive again next year. I hope Labonte does NOT go to the 43 car though.
And yes, Hamlin is AWESOME. He needs to have a few more good runs though. Yeley will be good eventually, but I'm not sure he is of the same caliber of Hamlin, Smoke or the other great young guns out there. And frankly I dont think Ryan Newman is of the same caliber of Smoke either. Those 8 wins in a season I think were a fluke.

Oh, I thought you were wanting Labonte to go the way of Ward Burton.. Who by the way MIGHT have a thing or two in the works from what I hear. I would love to see him back behind the wheel. I mean really, If Derrick Cope can get a ride, why can't Burton. Of course Cope doesn't have a DECENT ride...
OH.. Rumor's also have Robby Gordon talking to Toyota.. Possibly a Team car with Waltrip in the future (All toyota racing teams are teammates if they are factory backed)
AND!!! (Just found this out) Roger Penske spoke with Ricky Rudd regarding taking over the #2 ride if Kurt Busch is not released from the #97 team. The #97 is expected to switch to the #28 in 2006.

Earnhardt Heads Inductees In Hall of Fame
Dale Earnhardt
The late Dale Earnhardt, a seven-time NASCAR champion, heads the latest class of inductees to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega, Ala. Earnhardt is joined by team owner Jack Roush, NASCAR ace Harry Gant, racing pioneer Janet Guthrie and executive H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler in the class to be inducted April 27.
Earnhardt became one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR history, posting 76 victories and 281 top-five finishes en route to winning more than $40 million. He was a three-time driver of the year who also won 21 Busch races and four IROC Series championships. The Kannapolis native was killed in a crash at the 2001 Daytona 500.
Roush's five-car Roush Racing team has won Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck championships. The team has won the past two Cup titles.
Gant won more than 300 short-track races, including 21 in the NASCAR Sportsman series, now the Busch Series. Gant left Winston Cup in 1994 with 18 wins and 17 poles.
In 1977, Guthrie became the first woman to compete in the Indianapolis 500 and in the Daytona 500. She finished ninth in the 1978 Indianapolis 500 with a team she formed, owned and managed. It was the best showing for a woman at Indy until Danica Patrick's fourth-place finish this season.
Wheeler has been president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway for nearly three decades. The track was the first to use an advanced lighting system for night races and to offer extensive VIP suits and condominiums. (News & Observer)

Hall Of Fame Racing Names Drivers
Hall of Fame Racing announced that Terry Labonte and Tony Raines will co-drive the #96 DLP® HDTV Chevrolet in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series in 2006. Labonte, a two-time Cup Series champion and 22-time Nextel Cup race winner, will campaign the #96 DLP HDTV car in seven races, while Raines, the 1996 champion of the American Speed Association (ASA) and 1999 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year, will drive the #96 DLP HDTV machine in 29 races.
"This is a milestone day for Hall of Fame Racing," said Bill Saunders, managing partner of Hall of Fame Racing. "Terry and Tony bring a wealth of experience to our race team, and on behalf of the team's partners - Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman - we couldn't be happier with the selection.
"As part of our relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing, we were able to use their expertise in selecting our drivers. Terry's and Tony's names were at the top of the list, and it's a privilege to have both of them in our race cars representing DLP HDTV and Hall of Fame Racing."
Terry Labonte
"Terry is a veteran racer and a champion and Tony is an excellent driver who has done more with less in the equipment he's been in," added Philippe Lopez, crew chief for Hall of Fame Racing.
"Terry brings three things to the table. He brings leadership, credibility and familiarity. Our cars will come from Joe Gibbs Racing, and Terry drove for them in five races this year. There's a comfort level already built into our program, which will make the transition from Terry being behind the wheel to Tony that much smoother.
"Tony gives excellent feedback with common sense suggestions," continued Lopez. "I had a chance to work with him a few years ago and the chemistry was there. We know he can drive when he has good equipment. He's been able to take cars that some people probably questioned how he even made the race with and knocked down some top-20s. He's done a lot with a little, but now he has the equipment to match his capabilities."
Labonte will compete in the season-opening Daytona 500 and the four following races at Fontana (Calif.), Las Vegas, Atlanta and Bristol (Tenn.), as well as the two road course races at Sonoma (Calif.) and Watkins Glen (N.Y.). Raines will be the driver at all of the remaining Nextel Cup point races, including the non-point Nextel Open at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.
"My focus is on driving the car," said Labonte, who is essentially on loan to Hall of Fame Racing from Hendrick Motorsports, for whom Labonte will compete in 10 other races. "I know how the car should feel as far as getting it set-up. That's something that's tough for someone without a lot of Nextel Cup experience, because it's hard to know what your car needs to feel like for 500 miles.

Ok here we go! Texas! To no ones surprise Ryan Newman is on the pole for the race today. The good news (for me anyway) is he is starting in the back due to a crash on the 2nd lap of quailfying...We hold a 43 point lead on JJ who may surprise us with a strong run today. Here is the way I see it:
-Kenseth needs to win no win today his hopes of 2 Championships in 3 years are over!
-Mark Martin (my 2nd fav driver in the chase) is still hanging in there. He needs at least a top 5 to keep his hopes alive.
-Newman and Edwards need to remain consistant.
-Biffle is the one to watch. If he can win and Stewart has trouble this could be a very good day for the 16.
-Jimmmy Johnson it makes me sick to think he could end up winning this thing
There are still three races left.. If Stewart can have consistant finishes in the top 10 or top 5 he is a lock...
Kenseth and Martin are done. Period. They can make it close but they will not win the championship. They have to run top 5 the last 3 races and hope Stewart, Johnson, and Biffle ALL have 2 bad runs each. That WON'T happen. If Newman and Edwards don't get top 5's they are done. Even that I think will just prolong them being eliminated until next week. The champ WILL come from the top 3. They are all running good and at least one of the 3 will have top 10's from here on out and win it. Biffle is good at intermediates and Phoenix but he's 75 points back. Stewart and Johnson will each have to finish outside the top 10 today for him to be right there. Johnson was off big time last week and Atlanta is similar. If he has another 18th place finish or whatever, he'll find himself in 3rd close to 100 points out if Stewart has a top 5, which I think Tony will be REAL strong today. It's crunch time and he thrives on that. He will kick it up yet ANOTHER notch. Just my thoughts.

Well Edwards did EXACTLY what he needed to do today IF he is going to have a shot at the cup. However Smoke needs to keep racking up with the top 5/10's and be within a place or two of Jeff Gordon Junior.. err I mean Jimmie Johnson, and its a lock. however it is a little closer than I would like it to be. And Ganassi won't release McMurray unless he can land another top driver: the top two names mentioned are Labonte and Rudd. If you think about it, the Petty cars are running better this year- usually top 20 is, and look at it this way.
4 Roush cars, 5 Hendrick cars, 2 good Gibbs cars, 2 Dei cars, thats almost the top 15 right there with Yates, Penske and Ganassi.. Put in perspective, the Petty cars (esp the 45) are running alot better than they were LAST year- atleast now they are finishing races, and I think Kyle led a lap today.

Petty cars have alway run well! If they get Bobby (which seems to be the case). They will diff start on a up swing. Bobby drivinfa dodge... interesting...

Yeah, it seems Petty's been suffering from the lack of a strong driver, rather than any particular car trouble. Bobby LaB's going to be an impressive addition to the stable, considering I can't remember a Petty driver who's won a race in the few years I've been keeping tabs on NASCAR.
As to Rudd being on the fence about retirement.... *checks calendar* Yup, it's silly season.
And as to Bobby headed to a Dodge, it was weird enough when Pontiac just got up and left NASCAR. Of course, given all the hubbub, at least we haven't started using 'Toyota' and 'NASCAR' in the same breath, yet....

Ok todays news:
-Bobby Labonte to the 43 for 2006
Here are some inertesting quotes from the press confrence today. Some of which kinda made me think is there something more going on with this move:
Labonte said Joe Gibbs Racing, his current team, might literally be too big for its britches.
"There's a lot of employees there, just a lot of stuff going on and it was just hard to get a hold of," he said. "I had it (the feeling of being a big part of the race team) in the earlier years at Gibbs Racing, but there was only 18 people ... 20 people ... 30 people ... 40 people ... 50 people."
-Car limits for owners totla of 4. What the hell is Rouch going to do when they are force to drop a team? Who the hell are they gonna lose. the only think I could think would work is for Mark Martin to dive the 2006 season. Jamie McMurry moved to the 6 in 2007 and the 97 car goes way, either to another owner or is deactivated until the number is picked up by someone else in the future.

We dont have to worry about which car Jack Roush is going to put into a different corporation until ATLEAST 2009 when sponsor agreements run out. As of right now all agreements are in place till 2009, and at that time could be extended. However if either of the 5 drivers or contracts expire and are not renewed, then the team would go away- but both would have to happen at the same time. It's a vague rule thats being made up as you go.. Roush is pissed.
I'm pumped for Phoenix as well. It's a great track and usually a good race. Flat tracks sometimes aren't real exciting but Phoenix always seems to be. They need the last race of the season here. Homestead is WAY BORING!

All I have to say is... Why do people still think Tony Stewart has a attitude problem?

According to what I heard, he did NOT pass the first test. Regardless, he is suspended for the last two races. Not that this REALLY matters because he is not really in the chase anymore, but it raises the question if he WAS in contention for the championship, would he have been suspended?

The problem with TS's attitude is he is not the A-hole he used to be. :)

Here is some interesting news.
Robby Gordon to start using DEI engines, and also Jim Beam is asking for a "Rebate for the 13 DNF's" this season.
In my opinion JB should ask for a rebate if and only if they were the sponsor for the multitude of DNQ's this season. the DNF's are part of racing.

In one word "possibly"! I believe he could have been suspended anyway! After his career of being a scumbag! and his disrespect shown other racers. He is not a true Champion and doesn't deserve another one...

Kurt Busch need to get it tthrough his head that this krap is not going to help his image! And to think he's taking over the 2 car next year... PENSKE made a huge mistake by signing Busch! He'll be lucky to last 2 seasons with PENSKE! HE will be fired along with McMurry both will not last through 2007. Mark my words...

From the NASCAR.COM article that I found quite funny-
"It's the last straw for Roush Racing," said Geoff Smith, president of Roush Racing. "We're officially retiring as Kurt Busch's apologists effective [Sunday]."
When asked about Busch's arrest and confrontation with police, team owner Jack Roush said it was no longer his problem.

I think McMary (vive la Benny Parsons :) ) will succeed at Roush Racing, provided they give him the same level equipment they have been providing all their drivers the past few years. I think the winner in this deal is Roush, and the loser Penske. The Jury is still out on Ganassi, but I think he needs to dis-associate himself from Sabates.

I think only time will tell what happens to Busch, no matter what though he is going to be in a cup car for a long time to come. This Wimmer and Hemels thing are all apples and oranges.
I am not sure but there may be a reason for a drivers cerfew like the NFL has. Alot of things would not happen.
McMurry only has a one year deal with the Rousch orginization so next year at this time we will hear more of his plans.
