I just got word from an internal source that the Sanyo 9000 is going into software testing right now. That is right on track with the November release of the Sprint nationwide EV-DO network.
Sprint's also going to beef of the Sprint TV with a new Baseline 3GPP architecture to step it up to Verizons VCast service.
It will also have a different Sprint Vision Portal and support JavaScript.
Again, this info is from a confidential internal source that I cannot post information about :wavey: .

Does this mean it will match vzw in performance or be slower/faster than them?

Either way, it's nice to know so many people are glued to their browsers to see what's around the corner.

Hey, anything's possible, especially in Kansas when it comes to Sprint. Honestly, I would not be shocked if Sprint is tipping the scales around just to keep folks in the industry (myself included) guessing. I did report it appears the 9000 won't make EV-DO's launch, but, with FOTA, anything is now possible. The 9000 can update itself after all (oops, I wonder if anyone else got that in their inboxes)...
Though, I highly doubt a phone would be on sale without two of the largest Sprint communities being very talkative about such events.

It's simple fact, Sprint is reviewing TSR and data support protocol after I wrote depicting just how many phones they promised FOTA for and then didn't deliver on. And this isn't bickering either, I am simply setting the record straight as to what happened with FOTA, and why there is such confusion as to its early stages of release.

When I manually try to update it it will just end and be like "to update at a later time go here" and it shows the menu options etc. But im saying, sometimes ill be doing something and it will automatically say please wait while we update your phone etc. Then I get there error.

Yes, that is part of the newer FOTA protocol, the 8300 is the first phone that leverages it so not only will there be some errors (that generally are "no error" codes, but the phone still prompts things like 1012). Just ignore them, hopefully they will be fixed in 1.005SP or higher, expected to be released for update soon.

Its amazing how so many threads on this board lose direction. The 9000's timing baffles me, because how could it not coincide with the EV-DO release? I also thought that this was the year of Sanyo. I haven't really seen Sanyo take leaps in the phone department. It must've meant the advertising I guess. Is there information on the other Sanyo phones that are to hit the market?
Chris Price
09-05-2005, 09:32 PM
This is pretty much it for the year, the idea is to let the Sanyo lineup settle. I'm not saying the 9000 won't be out when EV-DO launches, it's possible if the A940 is pushed back and the 9000 is pushed up it can happen, but EV-DO's launch is not riding on it (similar to how Vision's launch did not ride on the 5300, which was released later).
However, the 8300 will be the Christmas star... a $50-$99 TV phone with all of Sprint's features (GPS, 3D, TV, etc), just without EV-DO.

Sprint is really pushing the MM-A880 as well.

TruBloodTransAm
09-05-2005, 10:49 PM
if they really wanted to push the A880 they should of made it a neutral color instead of lavander/pink
Chris Price
09-05-2005, 10:53 PM
The year of Sanyo was not about exclusive promotion. Sanyo's lineup is unified around the principle of clear lines of product. Want a camera phone? 8300. Want a basic internet phone? 2300. Want the pure basics? 200. Want the cutting edge? 9000.
With Samsung, there's more choice, but you have to ask a customer 10 questions to pin down the right model. The clarity in which Sanyo is right for the customer is the importance of the year of Sanyo, not what phone they put on Times Square.
Sanyo is being promoted mostly in TV ads and in-store, the two most critical points to closing a sale.

So in other words people get Sanyo's because they are to lazy and or stupid to look at the competiton....Get it:tu:
Although, Samsungs lineup is parallel with Sanyo's in the low-to mid range, but is going to completely blow them away in the high-end.
Chris Price
09-05-2005, 11:01 PM
To the million of people out there not caring about phones every day, not attempting to collaborate stated information from places where they shouldn't be trying to look at broken device profile puzzle pieces, and don't know what MIDP 2.0 is, Sanyo is the safe bet.
Samsung would be much better off creating a questionaire for their products, and run an ad campaign based on that.
tuolumne
09-05-2005, 11:03 PM
Why so?
A560> 200
A820> 2300
A840> No competition
A880> 8300
A920> 9000 (no BT)
A940> No competition (yet)
A800> No competition
Furthermore, the same way the colors on the Sanyos attract people, so do the sleek intenna designs of the Samsungs.
And Chris, what do you want to say about the internal ramblings that the MM-A800 will supposedly be upgraded to EV-DO. Remember how Samsung was telling people at CES and CTIA that the EV-DO radio was "turned off"? hmmmmmmm.......
Chris Price
09-05-2005, 11:06 PM
I'm not here to debate Samsung product lines, nor attack them, it's simply a matter of Sanyo's strategy and I am here to define it for the savvy consumer. After that, debate away. :)

No, what he is saying is that the Sanyo line has a general area of features, and as they go up in price the features just add up. Samsung has phones all over the place. The A740 a camera phone with no speaker. The 880 a lavender MM phone. THe A800 a 2MP camera phone with no t9 or speaker. Get the point? There is no consistency in the Samsung line when comparing it to the Sanyo line. I'm not saying which is better (which you would most likely love to get into). Sanyo's line is easier to market because their phones all take steps up or down from each other. The A880 has very little relation to the A800, or the RL760. The 7400 relates well to the 8300, 7300, 200, and 5600.

BTW, the A760/740 are on the way out to be replaced by the A820/840. Look at the Samsung list I did. Every NEW Samsung will have T9, a speakerphone with a dedicated button, and an intenna. Consistant.

Only EV-DO phones will have H.264B, as only EV-DO networks can leverage it properly. H.264B is much closer to Divx quality, but requires much more bandwidth than 3GPP2.

Okay, I have read the info posted about FOTA, DOTA and IOTA. So, if this is perfected and initiated as it can be. Then I know SPCS will finally fix things that I knew as a former Tech Support, could be done.

As for the bickering, you guys need to grow up and let things slide. NO ONE said what they were posting was THE TRUTH, they even said it was coming from SOURCES. And we all know SOURCES can be wrong. Look at Dan Rather or who ever it was that got busted. Not to mention the whole WMD thing in IRAQ.
Okay?

Sources can be wrong, I never disputed a source simply the context where the information was provided in order to gain a better understanding of the corroboration of my reporting. Can that get tricky, even agressive at times? Yes. Is it necessary to find out if I'm hearing an echo or if I'm hearing more evidence that confirms my reporting? Again, yes.
I like to believe I am the most in-touch member of the new media with its viewership, and that brings us to this uncharted territory where the media interacts directly with its viewership.

So this probably isnt the best thread the ask this; however, since it has been mentioned will FOTA, DOTA, IOTA, and any other OTAs be available on the A880? I believe I read somewhere that it might be released in a future firmware update that has to be done at a store first but I am not sure.
As a point of reference the recent 840 does have the option for OTA firmware updates (its a menu selection)

There are no updates to the A880 currently.

A940/A920 should be compatible. Don't know on the 9000, but I'd reckon so.

Will the Sanyo 9000 have a slot for mini SD memory?

Yes.
When you say "Beef up the Sprint TV" is this something that is EV-DO related, or making the regular current system better?

You will probably want to read the detailed report at PCS Intel that describes the Sprint TV enhancements.

Since the 9K series, 5700, 7500 and the eventual 6K series will have EV-DO, does anybody think 8K and 4900 series will get upgraded to include that? Like a 8500 or a 4990

I'm still looking for more specs on the 9000:
-What is the camera resolution (2MP or more?)
-Does it have a 20X zoom like the 5600
-Does it do video an better than the 5600
-What is the battery life
-Will it come with a extended battery like my 5300 did
-MP3 player? (and can it do playlists which the 5600 couldn't)
Etc., etc. Many questions. Any good sources for 9000 specs?
Also to tuolumne: in what ways are some of the "upper line" samsungs better than the 9000?
This is what I'm hoping for in the next phone I buy::fingers:
-1.3MP or better Camera (A must, and would like video too)
-MP3 Player
-SD card slot (A must)
-USB connect to PC
-BT would be great but I can live without
-Redi Link
Truthfully, I think the perfect phone for me would be the moto mpx300 but it's not cdma and I'm under contract. :indiff:

The camera for the 9000 will be a 1.3 mp.
The other stuff can`t be answered because the phone is`nt out yet but since it has a memory card slot I`m sure it has an mp3 player.

The Sanyo flagship series always had a break threw feature with it, so whets do people think it will have. Supposing it has something its sleeve? Cant be 2mp camera or ev-do…

I followed the links to the FCC site looked at all the info there, saw that it was submitted to the FCC on 9-23-05.
I also had a guy at a local sprint store look it up on their internal network and he said that it showed the 9000 set for release in November. :fingers: That's all I've been able to come up with so far.
