I am getting a Sanyo 8300. Can someone tell me what the GUI is like? Is this a good phone? It is hard to find pictures on this phone. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to think of a word to describe this monstrosity. Woops, there's the word.

The GUI is what you would expect from Sanyo, the same boring thing.

Okay.
so is it like the 2300, 4500, 4900, or 5500?

A beefed up 8200/7400 describes the hell you will see when you flip open the screen.

Agreed. Apologies for the damnation of the 8300.
It's okay for its price range.

i haven't seen the 8200 or 7400. I just saw the 2300. Is it like that? Is it really that bad? I am scared to get this phone now.

I tell ya what, my favorite UI is the a880.. wow, that grid one is awesome.
The 2300 only has one similar to the 8100.
The 8300 has icon/text.

Yes, the A880's GUI is pretty awesome. I was playing with it the other day in the SPCS Store and I found myself pulling the credit card out of my wallet to buy it. Before realizing what I was doing, I was already at the counter asking for it. Luckily someone had yelled to their parents "LOOK A PINK KEYPAD MOM" then I snapped back to reality.

Can someone post some pictures of the GUI. I read somewhere that it was like the 4900 which I could not take. When you say icon/text what does that mean?
Thanks again

so let me get this right. This 8300 phone is a bit half baked? Is it just awful?
It is on the way from Lockline. Should I Ebay it?
Only you can decide that. I would not call it awful. Some might. (ahem) I would call it a value phone packed with good features. Give it a shot. What are you using now?

I was using a samsung vga1000 which was treating me ok. Then i switched to a sanyo 5500 (which i did not like the gui) and it kept redialling and dropping calls. It failed the test and they are sending me a 8300.
What did you not like about the 5500 UI?

If you didn't like the 5500s UI and liked your A620s better (Right here), then you will be terribly dissapointed by the 8300s UI, which is almost exacally the same, but on a smaller screen.

The 8300 UI is very similar to the 5500, but it has a higher res screen. Also has some additional customizable shortcuts, etc.
It's clean, fast, smooth, and boring. Perfect for a lot of people. However, you will get an animated kangaroo to entertain you with its creative antics. :wavey:

It seems like they just threw this 8300 out there. All they show is a picture of a guy on it. Even going through the user manual they don't really show the ui. If it is like what tulome posted I think I am in trouble. I just want a normal ui where i can dial. I also hate that ready link button. When you disable it, it still makes a sound.
Sounds like you need a different model then.

In regards to this?

That is one of the selectable Menus for the MM-A880 by Samsung (there is a regular grid choice as well).
Sorry, but that menu there is butt ugly.

i just need a phone most importantly for voice. If it can do that well I will be happy. I also like the 620 feature of pushing the key once to stop the ringer sound and to hold it down to send it to voicemail. Voice and sound quality are my main importance.

Well, I thought you got confused and thought that the A880 UI I posted was from the 8300;)...Guess not.
Really, the 8300 does that well. Excellent Voice and Reception....But so does the Samsung A880 and virtually every new Sprint phone:p

thank God. That is one ugly ass menu. Samsung seems to be heading down the wrong path on UI.

5600 GUI is animated when initially selected with the D pad. 8300 is not animated but the icon is enlarged when initially selected with the D pad. 8300's menu looks like the 5600 after animation b/c of its full color. 7400's GUI is only in 2 colors but also enlarges the icon when initially selected with the D pad. I knew I should have taken a picture of the 8300's GUI when I was at Sprint store today.
I thought the menu looked fine myself. I don't like the UI to look like a cartoon. Simple, well laid out, and funtional. Works for me. Flashy animation only slows things down.
Sorry Tuo. That's my feeling.

I can't believe they crippled the 8300 with only 2mb of memory. To me that makes it a rather poor value for the money considering it is supposed to be a multimedia phone. And for the money it doesn't have all that many features anyway, at least IMNSHO.

ui is nothing to write home about, but its an above average phone, i'd keep it unless you have money to burn
