Hi,
I'm a reporter for a major newspaper. I'm looking for people who watch TV on their cellphones. Is there anybody outthere actually doing it? I know there are about half million of them in the U.S....
Thanks.

I use the Fox News thingie on my cell during bigger events when I'm at work or not near a TV. Or when I'm at the laundromat. There's nothing else to do while Im waiting!
I Hit Up The Weather Channel All The Time. Mostly, I Listen To Podcasts, Though.

You could purchase channels without the multimedia pack. The multimedia pack just gives you the sprint tv channel. You still have to pay extra for each premium channel anyway.
I don't watch tv on my phone. I can't be bothered. I watch tv on a tv. I don't have time during my work day to watch clips.

MobiTV is the best I've found. A few live news channels, The Discovery Channel & bunch of sports & more. The biggest thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't play through the media player so the sound is low. I have to use an amplifier with my headphones to hear it.

What sort of amp do you use with it? I have the same problem. With MobiTV you have to cup your hand behind the phone's speaker to reflect the sound back toward you. I haven't really tried it with headphones. I bought the best Sprint-brand headphones I could find, and I'm really not happy with them. I'd love to get a battery-powered amp to send the signal through before it reached the headphones. :-)
Take care-

Also Beta testing MobiTV. I will definitely be adding it permantly as soon as it is available.
I watch it every night after my wife goes to sleep with a set of headphones. The light is low and doesn't bother her. Since I watch mostly Comedy Time the only problem is when I laugh too loud.
I did also use it extensively tracking Katrina as she came ashore.
I love the experience and with Sprint poised as a great partner with Cable Companies due to the fact that they are not competing with them for subscribers (like Verizon which may eventually offer that content over broadband) I am looking forward to getting say 80-100 channels on my HANDSET!
Add to that the Emmy that Sprint just won along with MobiTV and the future is very bright. Sprint will go systemwide with EV-DO soon so the only complaint I have (sometimes pixelated picture) will no longer be a problem.
In closing, I truly believe this is going to be HUGE at least for SprintNextel.
Course that just my opinion....
I could be wrong. ;)

Yeah, I too agree with most of the posters here, except perhaps that I have a bit of a unique situation -- I completely got rid of cable. In my area I was paying $15+ for just the BASIC (2-18) channels, and realized that as time went on, and the price kept going up and up, that cable TV became a matter of luxury vs. necessity. When I first moved into my apartment 5 years ago that price was only $9.73. Now they charge you for local news, 75¢ extra! (at least in my hometown).
Even when I had it, I would aimlessly flick through the 'trash' (imo) channels -- shows like 'Divorce Court', 'Jerry Springer', Maury Povich, etc. and keep thinking to myself -- is there really anything GOOD on TV? And no thanks, I don't watch the soap operas. Eventually I started to enjoy CNN more and more, and the other news channels. I also used to enjoy the shopping (HSN/QVC) channels, but I can watch them live on the internet if I want to, and purchase directly from them using that method as well. Because if you really think about it, the only thing really good on TV is the NEWS anyway. Life revolves around the news, and without it, many of us are left in the dark. In the decades before TV, our sole source of information was through the newspaper and when radio came out that changed everyones lives as well. Many would gather around the console radio for not only the news, but also a decidely good form of entertainment as well (sports, talk shows, etc.).
As some of the other posters have commented, I too have extensively watched the Hurricane Katrina news coverage, LIVE, right through my handset. I have literally spent hours and hours watching the preparations and warnings before it hit, as it hit the morning after, and the horrific aftermath as it all has been uncovered. I now use my phone as my SOLE source of information, watching TV, checking email, playing radio, all through the Sprint Vision Multimedia Pack. The price went down $5 (now only $20), so I couldn't refuse. And to make it even better, I'm paying $15 less a month for NO cable. I can watch TV in the bedroom, at the office... not just the living room anymore.
From a technical perspective, the video is only 15fps (TV is 30fps so it is 1/2-speed visually), but to me this is good enough. It can be a bit choppy at times when the network bandwith is very low (peak times such as 5-8 pm, etc.), but Sprint's arrival of EV-DO will more than likely alleviate these problems. Audio quality is excellent. I look forward to a long time of viewing TV in this alternative method. It is very enjoyable. I watch it almost every night before bed, quite comforting in fact as I lull into sleep. :-)

I have Sprint TV free for maybe 2 more weeks. Its pretty cool to watch when waiting for appointments, etc. I have looked at the discovery channel, news, sports, and most of the preview channels. It seems that much of the content would cost extra (and I do not think it is worth it). I think that $20/month is too much to pay for something to use once in a while.

They don't give them away though. I found some at Walmart in the "we can't sell it section" marked down to 14 bucks! I might add that the MHA100 is not stereo like the MM5600 so I would have to plug it in and pull it back a fuzz. Once I did that, I can't hardly remember it wiggling out & you could hear it with both ears. I don't recommend it for music but it works great for tv. I also use a casette adapter with a reducer and play it over the car stereo. It sounds best when you leave the phone volume down & let the amp increase the volume. I amplify my mp3's before uploading & don't need an amp for that. Now it appears that Sprint tv live just came out, which is MobiTV over the media player. Waiting to read some posts on it & the next billing cycle before trying it.

The new Sprint TV Live is similar to MobiTV (channel listings), but the sound and quality is much improved. I only wish ESPN 3G TV was included like MobiTV. I cancelled my mulitmedia vision package with SprintTV (non live version) and subsribed to the $15 Vision package with the SprintTV Live.
I Love Watching MobiTV! I've Had It Since It Was Introduced Two Years Ago!

I definitely agree. It would be nice to have espn radio as well.
