Could someone at Verizon keep CEO Ivan Seidenberg away from the press? We’ll let that fact that he ridiculed municipal WiFi slide, since he’s just protecting his turf (even if he did call it “one of the dumbest ideas” he’s ever heard), but whining about Verizon Wireless customers who complain about the quality of their cellphone service is pretty weak. In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle he asks, “Why in the world would you think your (cell) phone would work in your house? The customer has come to expect so much.” We can understand his frustration, since perfect coverage is impossible, and it’s no fun dealing with people who expect to get four bars in their basement, but, um, maybe, just maybe it’s because over the past year we’ve been exposed to an endless barrage of “Can you hear me now?” ads touting Verizon’s superior coverage? Saying that it’s not Verizon’s responsibility to release detailed coverage maps stats about how well your service works inside homes isn’t exactly helping your case, either.

Besides the fact that this article is already dated, you guys confuse two companies.

Denny Strigl is the CEO of Verizon Wireless while Ivan Seidenberg is the CEO of Verizon Communications. Different companies.

While I don't believe his comment had much tact and could of been worded nicer so as to not offend the sensitive, I understand what he is saying.

Verizon wants to promote their own FIOS broadband service while their wireless counterpart will promote EVDO.

Anyways, this is old news and has already blown over.

No way. I'm just a realist. I notice a lot of misinformation and I like to shed light wherever possible. ;)

While I understand that it is impossible to *guarantee* coverage indoors...

We build buildings/houses. We live indoors. We use our phones indoors. Therefore, why shouldn't they strive for indoor coverage?

Its a known fact that people use their phones indoors... To not expect them to want to is absolutely asinine.

the problem is the CEO of verizon (the land line company and the people who own a huge share of VZW) wants you to have to keep a land line phone in the house, while all the other wireless companies want you to cut the line, especially if your getting their service where they don't sell landlines.

With "local" unlimited cell phone companies asking you why to keep a phone when they can offer you the same services for $30 a month less.......... they are grabbing a huge segment of former wire-line customers. The other companies have to compete, hence sprintel offering the incoming plans across both companies lines of service. Sprint, in a few months, wont have a local service division to worry about killing off like VZW, bell south Alltel and SBC. You can bet that all of em love getting customers to cut the wire also, just not in areas they run the wire!

I've been waiting on ver-izon to run DSL into my neighborhood in a populated city, but they wont because of how they built their system. But, thats another story of how companies will shoot themselves in the foot with statements and actions from one "part" of the company affecting the other half.
