Installing quicktime should let you view them on PC. I use quicktime alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm). It has less junk than Apple quicktime. The codec from link also comes with media player classic, which is based on older media player and smaller and has some new features, but you can also use regular media player.

I don't think quicktime alternative comes with encoders, but I use PSP Video 9 (http://www.pspvideo9.com/) to encode movies in mp4 format, which a800 plays fine. The setting it up with resolutions and bit rates can be little tricky, but it's a free program and has good encoding quality. Some people here use 3gp converter or Quicktime pro, but PSP Video 9 works fine for me.
