Make sure you have a big hard drive. Doesn't take long for a small collection to use up all your space. Also, my personal opinion is that you should STAY AWAY from P2P programs like Limewire. You're opening yourself up to a world of trouble that way.

dvd decryptor has been taken offline.
another program (but isn't free) is Clone DVD (www.clonedvd.net)
or if you just want to copy dvds, you can try DVD X Copy which has also been taken offline.
you might still be able to find them in rare places or if someone has them.

DVD Shrink is awesome and free.
Go to Doom9.net and click on Downloads. It's at the bottom under VOB tools.

I could probably hook you up with something small. I'll PM you later tonight and let you know what I can have for you.
*EDIT*
Nevermind. Go with DVD Shrink. Free, legal and I don't have to do anything. :p

Well... no, not exactly - and yes, sort of....
Ripping a movie is only the first step. All ripping does is take a movie from a DVD and put it on your hard drive. The problem is that you dont get a single file (like movie.avi). You get all the files and information on the DVD - such as chaper info, navigaion info, the main move, the "special features' videos, etc.
So after you have a copy of the DVD on your computer (ripping) - you have to extract just the movie - from there you would format it for your screen and convert it as you see fit.
There is software that will rip and extract all at the same time - so yes you could do that - then format it and convert it.

Go to Http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71413. Detail step by step how to make 3gp movies w/chapters, loud volume and full screen long by cproaudio. You will find everything there. From what I gather movies for the mm 5600 has to be made to fit screen unlike alot of other mm phones. My first attempt following these instructions came out great.

Correct - When you rip you end up with 3 different files:
VOB files - these are the movies.
IFO files - these are information files that tell the player how to play the movie (language, angle, aspect ratio, etc)
and BUP files - these are backup files to the IFO's.
So you need to find the VOB's you need and convert them.
I would not recommend DVD Shrink like I did for the OP (who only wanted to keep movies on his computer - or rip then burn back on to a DVD). You will need something that can convert a ripped DVD. You could use DVD shrink to only rip the movie - but will still need other software to convert to a file of your choosing.

Limewire may have been a bad choice in the sense that it doesn't have spyware (worse alternatives exist), but you *do* have to lower security to get any P2P to work...a "chink in the armor" that can be "exploited" against you...
BACK ON TOPIC, it should be pointed out that the process of copying a DVD necessitates breaking its encryption (CSS), and is legally a violation of the DMCA. It depends on how much that concerns you...just know that the process itself is not legal (which itself violates your fair-use (http://fairuse.stanford.edu/) rights)...

I use dvd2one software. It converts a dvd9 so that it with fit on a regular dvd5. Just the same as dvd shrink I thinks its faster than shrink but shrink is free. Also you can still find dvd decrytper everywhere it just wont be updated anymore

I use a 2 step process. DVD Shrink to 'file' (not disk) and then drop the VOB on to '3GP Converter'. Just copy the resulting file to the SD card and view.

Xilisoft makes a DVD ripper that does everything pretty much. You can "rip" the DVD straight to an avi or mpeg. There are some DVDs that have more than one VOB file to the actual movie. For example, you might have 8 VOB files and 3 of those are the movie itself while the others are chapters and extras. Xilisoft will output 1 file per VOB. I then use Ultra Video Joiner to join the 3 files into one if I feel so inclined.
These are programs that cost money but if you have the resources, you can get them for "free." Not that I condone that or anything. :P
