Hello,

I'm not very familar with what phones are the best and all that jazz. I currently have a LG VI-5225 and its just a very basic phone with no perks.

I was hoping you phone addicts here at SU could help me chose the perfect phone. The things that I'm looking for in a new phone are:

Better reception than my 5225
Speakerphone
Good sound quality! This is really important to me aswell as good reception
External screen. I love my 5225's external caller id and clock

A camera would be a plus

My main use for my phone is to call my GF and text message people.

:) I have about $300 to spend plus $100 rebate. But the cheaper the better

Thanks everyone who helps

Wirelessly posted (Treo 650: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

Try an MM-8300.

Has all the features you're looking for and receptionwise I laid one side by side with all our Demo phones @ RadioShack and it was by far the best.

As much as I love my 5500, i have to recommend the 8300 to you.

the only reason i'd say 5500 is beacause it is so easy to tap out a text on it. the speakerphone quality is half-duplex and crap. the hinges have problems. and the system issues behind it are tough. plus, it's not being sold by sprint at this point.

mm7400, or a880 would be two very solid choices. The LG 225 looks to be good too but I dont have any expirence with that phone.

I agree about the A880 via personal experience with the phone. It's by far my favorite with features you'll be happy with. The camera is actually a pretty good one at 1.03 MP which will beat out the majority of some of the others VGA camera's.

I can never put this phone down, it's so darn cool. HOWEVER, if you go into a sprintPCS store, it may look a bit lavander to you, but once you put it in a 'normal' environment you won't notice it nearly as much... Great phone, but some of the others mentioned are pretty good from my research, but I haven't done a hands on with them.

Best of luck!
Jim

The 225 would be perfect for you.

If you want more features, the A880 is even better.

Both have great full-duplex speakerphones, excellent RF, and most importantly, no external antenna.

My three choices are the Samsung MM-A880, Sanyo MM-8300 and LG PM-225. Here's a 3x3 comparison from Phonescoop.com which will let you compare each phone side by side. Click their titles at the very top in order to examine each handset individually. Then you can look at each phone's forum to see what users are saying and also view the reviews given by owners of the handsets.

From personal experience, since reception is a big thing for you DEFINETLY get the Samsung a880! It is a great phone and everything about it is amazing... I have had 76 phones and it has been one of my favorites! (behind the fantastic nokia 6620, but thats a differnet story.)

...which can be used with the flip closed, is unlikely to show up DOA, and will not spontaneously reboot...or look like a pink keypad, lavender-colored ladies' phone...

I'm starting to lean towards the LG -225. I've never had a reboot problem or anything such as that with my current LG phone.

The thing that turns me off on the suggested sanyo is the half-duplex spearkphone. That and I've never had to deal with an intenna and I might not get along well with one now!

I'd like to be able to talk on the speaker phone with the shell closed though (like the sanyo) does anyone know if thats possible with the LG 225?

The samsung 880 seems to be a love or hate thing. I'm not sure how I feel about this phone yet hehe

Have to leave the flip open on both phones...
