I'm new to this site and learned more in a few minutes here, then I've been able to learn in 10 months of use of my Sanyo 8200, from anyone at Sprint.

A condition of my purchase of the phone and plan was that I would be able to use the phone as a modem and was assured that the pcs vision plan included that service, with unlimited time.

The very first thing I learned here was that is totally forbidden. What a rip!!!!!

I was told by someone in pcs vision support that it's been forbidden for about 2 years, because users were staying on line through modem use, 24/7. Upon reflection, it seems that this was just a way to gouge the Sprint customers, because every free dialup isp had a timing feature on it's hookup that disconnected inactive users. Sprint could have done that, but seemingly, chose to simply charge exorbitant fees for use of the phone as a modem.

Sprint was my second try, after trying Cingular and not getting any support.

The first cell phone company that starts providing service is going to own the entire cell market. I'll bet it won't be Sprint.

Hey Chuck,

What happen was people were downloading GB of data every day and this was causing a HUGH drain of bandwidth. People were using their phones as a mobile to connect to file sharing programs. All of this caused Sprint's service to start suffering from dropped calls, static, ect. Some people here do use their phones as a modem, but only is small doses. Anything more and Sprint will make you buy a data plan. Once Sprint has EVDO up and running in more area's, they will have better priced plans.
To defend Sprint, no other carrier offers unlimited high speed Visions web access for $10 and $15 a month. Most charge more, or deduct from your minutes in your plan. And no carrier will allow you to use your phone as a modem. Sprint is the only one I have used that tends to look past it when used in small doses.

If you want to get the most use out of your Visions access, I would advice you to buy a Smart-Device. I use my Trep 650 all of the time and have never had any problems.

But you made a much better choice in switching from Cingular to Sprint. Cingular is one of the worst carriers out there! I hope I don't sound rude, but I just don't want you getting the wrong idea of Sprint. I have found that Sprint is truly the best wireless carrier out there.
