I have one of the new Sanyo 8300 phones. I called Sprint and asked to flag my phone for the new PRL 10029 update. I had 10027 on mine. The rep would not do it. She said my phone was too new to do it. So, I went to my local Sprint store and they did it with no problem. They even told me to always get the newest PRL updates when they come out. I don't know what was up with the rep on the phone. Sometimes they are so difficult to deal with.

Up until yesterday evening I had 10027 on mine. Called *2 and the system automatically forced 10029 on me without any additional intervention.

PRL does nothing for you unless you roam... besides make you think hey its up to date with the latest and greates s/w.
But it does nothing but help sprint when you roam.

lockdawg is correct. It is "prefered roaming list". It is an updated list of other providers who let Sprint customers use their towers to continue the call. I roam a lot and want to stay current with the PRL's. Other than that, it does nothing else to update your phone.

For some reason, when I got my 8300 earlier this month, I asked the store to flag our family account for a PRL update (10028 at the time). We got home, dialed *2 on both phones and updated. I looked at my 8300 this weekend and its back at 10027 now...how??
When we did the update it kept saying "Please wait, updating..." then finally said "thanks" and "you can hang up now" (or whatever the wording was) and it did show 10028 on the phone
Ever happen to anyone else??

Did you reset the phone, Take the battery off and on ? Sometimes this is all you'll need for it to show

Yep, no luck... and *2 doesn't recognize it needing the update, don't feel like waiting on hold just for that so I'll wait to update it again.

the *2 thing is free (outside normal minutes) correct? I get confused with all their *x things and I checked the FAQs here and couldn't find any definitive answer.
I have a kinda PRL so probably should update. it's 10020.
I should probably get the firmware update too, but I don't want to go into the store and wait half an hour.

From your Sprint PCS Phone:
Dial *2 to contact Sprint PCS Customer Solutions
Dial *3 to make a one-time payment
Dial *4 to receive account information
Calls made using * feature do not deduct from your minutes used.

I tried for two days to get phone to update the PRL after having my account flagged. This morning I powered down the phone, removed the battery - then replaced battery and powered up the phone and called *2 and the update worked like a charm. I now have PRL 10029.

Im not a big fan of automatic updates, because you may lose system priority in some areas

yeah I don't want "automatic" but a special number to call just for that would be nice like VzW has... instead of calling CS and requesting your account flagged.
