some credit cards charge you for making phone payments as high as $15.
One good reason for auto-pay now. Ya, okay, there might be errors, but that sure beats having your phone shut off. Plus, on top of that, auto-pay with a credit card and not a checking account, so if there is any disputes, the credit card company will chase Sprint down and not you, as the subscriber!!!

It's so wrong to penalize people who are in the position of needing to use cash though. i've got 4 cc's, and can feel safe i'm never coming close to a limit, etc. And yes, i know everyone can easily send it a check, but it's so gross to me that they would charge people $5. Some people live check to check and on a mostly cash basis. I hope it's not true about the $5.

Some people use cash b/c they don't have such great credit. or they don't have credit cards. or b/c they are dangerously close to their limit.
Is it a charge for walking up to a rep and paying a bill or using one of their cash acceptance machines also?
The store near me always charged for a human being, but not for the machine in the corner. I dont use either anymore, log into sprintpcs.com and pay online with my "check card" from my bank. Plus, I get points for paying it that way.
If they are now charging for the automated money acceptor, then they have SERIOUS problems. Also, any store without one should do it for their customers free. I know the stores do it free when the machine is down and you need to pay it at the register.

I was unaware of the charge if you paid through CS, until I received mylatest bill. It was only a $5 charge, but i whish they would have said something first. Does it cost to use *4 or through vision on your phone?

or debit card, I have one of those pre-paid master cards, works fine for me, not only sprint but my other bills and online purchases too, and you can only spend what you put on the card

yeah, i really doubt there is a $5 charge for paying at the machine. They would lose customers that way, and ...yeah, i don't think so. Even i would think of switching, just based on principle. I think it would be very discriminatory (sp).

Yeah, I paid my bill over the phone last month because the website was down...I always make a credit card payment via the web. The $5 charge showed up on my bill; I called them yesterday (before I even saw this thread) and asked what it was all about. That's when I found out, but since the website was down they gave me the $5 back. Costs money to pay money...crazy stuff.

Yeah, they charge if you pay your bill while talking with a service rep over the phone, but not when you pay your bill at the store. Did you pay your bill with the computer service or with a person?
I have never been charged for paying my bill at the store. That would be so messed up if it did happen!

I use auto-pay via credit card each month and get miles in the process...So, at about $120 per month (including taxes) that's 1,440 miles per year. In fourteen years (2019) that's a free domestic round-trip airline ticket!

This has gotten entirely out of hand. They charged three bucks when I started service in 1997...way old news.
THERE ARE THREE **FREE** WAYS TO PAY:
1. Machine in store plus precash card is free...note, cash is the only accepted payment using this method.
2. *3 will probably never charge.
3. MAIL...why the obsession with handing money to a human being?? :deal:

Glad to see it. It costs sprint money to pay staff to take hand delivered payments that should be sent by mail or via computer. People who want to waste time (and cause me to wait longer for store service) should pay extra.
You are a fool if you don't use online banking for all your bills. Quicker, cheaper (no stamps) and less likely to be screwed up by Sprint. Not to mention never worrying about late fees (if you set up automatic monthly payment).

sum people LIKE MYSELF like going to the rep directly, that way u get an immediate posting to ur account, a reciept and assurance ur payment is posted to ur account directlyand not "lost" as been said to me before. u can get that part..So, U are the icular reps name in case of a "lost" payment and that rep is RESPONSIBLE..works for me!! so dont assume people who dont use online checkin are fools..i dont have a bank account and if i did, i WOULD NOT post private information over the internet.. NOTHING is SECURE on here..THAT i can ASSURE U!! it does NOT cost reps additional to take hand payments..where do u get ur information? that should go without sayin, we should NOT have to pay extra TO PAY OUR BILLS, i DISAGREE 100 PERCENT WITH THOSE OF U WHO SAY WE SHOULD BE CHARGED EXTRA!!and im sure MANY OTHERS DISAGREE ALSO.. so irritating. IT IS THEIR JOB TO TAKE CUSTOMERS PAYMENTS, BUT NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE U FOR THAT ALSO? u mite as well take the reps outta the stores, what are they good for? u can use online to shop now. online to pay ur bill...online for ANYTHING..why is there sprint stores then? just to charge us extra money? PLEASE!! we dont need ya if thats the case!! so BOX continue on, tellin others how foolish they are for MAKING THEIR CHOICE in their methods of payment, ull see, ur method isnt as great as u think.. have a WONDERFUL day my luv!! =)

and to those who agree with me? WE SHOULD DEFINATELY WRITE SPRINT ABOUT THIS..
i DID get an email from a rep stating this was correct. well WHEN were we EVER ADVISED OF THIS? PRETTY SNEAKY OF THEM IF U ASK ME... here is the email i recieved from sprint,..
Dear xxxxx,
I understand your concern on the fee attached with the payments made at
Store.
Per our policy, whenever a payment is made with the help of a live
Sprint employee or representative a payment processing fee is charged.
This is for an amount of $5.00. This is charged as a live employee is
involved in the payment process.
To avoid this charge, you can make an online payment, a check by phone
payment or a mail in payment.
Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks.

Hi Sprint,
I am curious about something I came across on a site which worried
me, As
stated on the site, If I pay my bill at a sprint store at the counter,
there is a fee applied? I do not understand this. How much exactly is
the fee if
this is true? I think that is obserd if this is the truth! How can you
charge
your customers for paying their bill at a Sprint store?
Thank you,
a VERY concerned customer,

The policy regarding payments over the phone changed several months ago. There are many different situations where no fee is required and its waived: paying in full, partial payment with no past due amnt, etc. More than anything the processing fee over the phone is not to get in the way of payment. If the user voices any anger or dissatisfaction with the fee it is likewise to be waived.
This in store policy is probably to reduce long lines and wait times which everyone dislikes but no one wants to take responsibility for...there are 4 or 5 other ways of making payments other than the store: *2 (automated), *2(rep), website, snailmail, APC. Easy on the *****ing folks.

That's ridiculous!!! :fight: I pay my bills with a credit card, but for someone going into a Sprint store to pay, and then be charged to pay is absurd. Sprint is paying the employee anyway, so for them to have to post a payment to an account is not that time consuming. And like someone mentioned before, some people don't have the credit, or would rather pay cash. That is a good reason tobe disappointed with Sprint. :badidea:

I've laughed at all the geniouses who pretend that paying a rep at a store is the only way to do it. There are several other options, but noooooo, they pick the one (THEY pick, no one picked for them) that has a fee involved then feel they get to gripe. Jumping off a very high cliff would be just as effective in getting attention and has a better result imo.

Just to let you know that they are wanting to get away from paying bills instore....This overcrowds the stores and in return slows business...are you gonna go into a store that has 20 people in a line, waiting to pay a bill? I know I wouldn't...some stores without bill paymachines will charge the fee. As a Legacy Nextel Dealer we couldnt take bill pays until the merger and we only have the option of PreCash...unfortunatly as a 3rd party rep they charge us per transaction 5.75 cents, we charge $6.00 per transaction. and yes there is a minimum Precash will accept and that is 20.00 bucks. So anyone that is charging less than 5.75 is taking a loss on the billpayment(if they use precash)
This just makes sense people... Everyone is out to make a buck but when billpays get in the way then they need to do something to make up for this loss or deter these bill pay customers to take advantage of the other bill pay methods....
For a while if you paid your bill online they gave you extra incentive (5 dollar credit or something like that)
So stop whinning about not being able to go into a store and pay a bill without a fee... you have other options

I forgot that everything in this world is FREE...oh wait, no it isn't. Do you know how much it costs to RENT one of those bill payment machines??? try 4 grand a month depending on the payment method it uses and how frequently it posts. You can get a single batch per day for 4 grand, an hourly batch for 5.5k
I work for a Retailer of Sprint and we have 15 stores. only 12 of them could have the payment machines in them.
Thats 576,000 a year!!! I think charging you 5-6 dollars is a steal.
BTW Sprint Core(Sprint owned stores) get volume discounts and they pay 1-1.8k a month. and on average 1 out of every 12 customers that come in to pay a bill buy something that helps generate revenue. Stop your whining and buy something when you go in the store and this may change.

Stop your whining and buy something when you go in the store and this may change.
Thank the lord almighty someone said it. What?!?! Buy something at a retail store instead of pay the bill, gripe about the bill, complain about the bill, demand a credit, whine about the phone since it dropped a call last week? Amazing idea. I have not one ounce of sympathy for anyone who gets nailed with this fee. If there was such a thing as negative sympathy, I'd have that. I mail my bill in a responsible and timely fashion and it costs me about 40 cents for a stamp. If you're too irresponsible to to do that, and for some reason can't operate the machine (or pay a dollar for a MO to mail in), then you deserve the fee.
Nice to see this thread keeps coming back from the dead. Sprint reps / employees on one side and "economically disadvantaged" customers on the other!
Its just funny that sprint catered to the low income contract customers for years, and now post merger they seem to be doing anything in their power to make them leave.
I'd love an explination of why sprint has never set it up so you could pay your sprint bill at a supermarket like you can pay your phone bill (wireline) electric bill, gas bill, cable, etc at for a small fee. Obviously the stores feel that the fee they collect plus the likelyhood that the person paying the bill may also buy something makes it worth while. Its not like sprint is the only carrier with a bill payment machine, I know cingular and verizon have them in their stores locally also.
if sprint wants to charge a buck for paying your bill at the "automated" machine that would be fair. i'd like to know how much it costs to have a mailed payment processed, as they obviously have humans processing the payments you send in by mail!

Very good point. The only thing I can guess is someone who makes much less than I do.
Very good point. The only thing I can guess is someone who makes much less than I do.
I guess the point is, if they "outsourced" it to the same stores that now accept other utility bills then customers would have more places to pay at and it would cost sprint little or nothing. The employee at the supermarket or similar does the work, collects the payment and fee for processing and the money is electronically transmitted to sprint. Sprint gets out of the "in person" payment game all together.
I wonder though if the 1 in 12 that buy something makes it an option that they want to keep for those sales. You notice that in most stores the payment machine is in the back, where you walk past all the phones to make your payment? Obviously the machine holds some marketing value.

I probably shouldn't post this, but it's not like it's going to hurt Sprint if I do: they have been considering seriously (and I mean very seriously) the idea of moving the APC machines outside, wall-mounted like ATMs at banks so that customers could pay their bill at any time of the night and to remove that traffic completely from the store.
typeshprelude98
10-10-2006, 08:49 AM
They will never put it outside....if they do they loose that 1 out of every 12 sale....
What really erks me is Nextel Customers.....There has nevery really been an option for them to go into a store to make a payment(at least in my Market) and now we can take them(through precash only) But Sprint Core stores will not take the payment. So they gripe that they have to come to 3rd party stores...when a year ago they had no option to go to any stores!!
People just want instant gratification and dont wanna pay a dime for it...
Sorry if I ruffle some feathers but I am in the business of making money to pay my bills....which btw I pay all mine ONLINE FOR FREE!!!

so dont assume people who dont use online checkin are fools..i dont have a bank account and if i did, i WOULD NOT post private information over the internet.. NOTHING is SECURE on here..THAT i can ASSURE U!!
Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how they actually take your payment and post it? Care to take a guess? It begins with an "inter" and ends with a "net". Its a little something call encryption. In fact handing my information to a person makes me more leary then actually doing it via the web, but different strokes for different folks. Just don't mistake the meaning of secure.

I pay bills to Honda Financial, Sallie Mae, Comcast, and Sprint Online. Never had a problem... I dont trust the postal service to do anything if I can avoid it.

I was reading an article in SmartMoney magazine just 2 months ago on this very issue. Statistics show that online bill pay is about 5 times more secure than any other method. They highly recommended AGAINST writing checks if you can. And if you do have to, DO NOT put it in your mailbox. Who is to stop someone from swinging by your house, and taking your outgoing bills? Now they have your name, address, DL number (in some cases), phone number, bank account number, routing number and signature. Nice secure method of paying bills when billpay sites are encrypted. This is the judgement of most people who know next to nothing about technology and it's why "paper" people get their identity stolen 5 times more than those of us who have migrated online.
