View Full Version : Avoid Sprint's picture transfer charges

I did not think it reasonable to pay $15 a month (or to pay per photo if I didn't have the Vision Pack) just so I could save my phone pictures. So, I asked around. Sprint, Samsung and Sanyo were equally tight-lipped about what applications exist that will let me transfer photos. I found one very nice one, though. DataPilot. For $34.95 you get an application that lets you transfer your phonebook, pictures and do stuff with ringtones. I recommend buying a cable on ebay, they are cheaper than the ones they sell on the DataPilot website. But the software works. I tried it with two Sanyo phones and one Samsung. Sweet. And it pays for itself after 2-3 months of not having to pay Sprint $15 a month for Vision. www.datapilot.com.

how long have you had it b/c when you use those other companies, there is a good chance sprint will still charge you the vision usage for xferring the pics to them

I am also trying to find out if BitPim works on the Sanyo 8300. I have used it on my previous phne the 7400 and it worked like a charm. When I plug in the 8300 "phone is not recognized". Any suggestions???

At this time, nothing works with the Sanyo 8300. I currently have FutureDial's SnapSync and SnapMedia, which I was using on my Sanyo 8100. I contacted them and was told they are working on making it compatible with the 8300. BitPim relies on having the phone model in hand to make changes. Also, there is DataPilot, but they did not know when the 8300 would be compatible.

Thanks for your info....I guess when Sanyo and Sprint put out a new phone everything else in the way of accessories, etc. for that model has to catch up.

There is a new release out! v7.34
Make sure you have drivers (sanyo) and are telling it the right com port from the settings menu! Sometimes 3 sometimes 4...I have found from time to time (with the last version of Bitpim) I have had to click "Detect Phone" more than a couple of times for it to read it- not always, just once in a while (also- note I am not using an oem cable)...At anyrate- it works with an 8200- should see the 8300 (?)...(BTW-we got it to work with a mm5600 only for the contacts)...hope that helps!

I was unable to get the newest version of BitPim to work with my 8300...

However... I checked for DataPilot updates, and sure enough, the newest update (3.12.0) included support for the MM-8300 phone.

edit: Some of the features aren't complete. See which ones are/aren't supported here:

i tried the bitpim and got nowhere. i bought the datapilot package at comp usa for 60 bucks.i was weak when i tried to upload some pictures.there was a 16kb limit on the files. and the only format available was midi. what a waste of money.

BitPim works for transferring the proper files, but the files I get are useless. I can't open them in any picture viewer. I have the PM-A840.

Thanks

I have a Sanyo MM8300, and bitpim, and it works fine, of course after finding the right driver (3-4 hrs of searching), the driver was something like Sanyo Modem Driver. if i had the link i'd post, but i don't remember where I found it at.

does it work for the Samsung A940?

Just use a card reader for SD cards and you can transfer directly from the card to your computer.

yeah but that means pulling out this tiny fragile lil transflash card all the time.
Whats the point of the usb cable it came with?
I cant do nothing with it (or havent figured out what it can be used for) :/

Is there a program to edit contact list and stuff with the usb cable on this A940?
...still learning this phone...

Well tethering is one way to use the cable and if BitPim can get a stable release that works on the A940, then that can work as well...Qualcomm's Programming Service Tool also works currently, as they are the chipset company.
