I've had a Sanyo 8100 for about 2 years. I love it but the battery is dying and I've dropped it a couple of times so the hinge is broken and it's about a month away from falling apart. I would be perfectly happy to by another 8100 - especially since I own a data cable that connects to my palm pilot that I paid about $100 for. If I could create my perfect phone I would:
give it a speaker phone
make the sound clearer when using a headset
cancel out the background sound
maybe make the 8100 a little thinner, but the size is fine
also get better quality pictures with higher megapixels
be able to use the same data cable to surf the web on my Sony Clie
Any ideas? Is the 8200 what I want? I've read mixed reviews on it.

I have an 8200 (after having an 8300) and its a relatively good phone... But I'm still not impressed with the build quality on sanyos anymore...
Unfortunately, I can't reccomend the 8200 for two reasons:
1.) The 8200 is old -- I got mine in August of 2004 and it had been out for like 3 months by that point.
2.) Like I indicated above, sanyo's build quality seems to be going way down.
The 8300 DOES NOT have #777 support (it does use the same connector however.)
From what I've read the Samsung A880 is a great phone, just the keypad sucks.
Hopefully Samsung and LG will keep producing good phones as an alternative to sanyo.

I'd rather get an older phone. I can't afford the $300 for a new 8300 even with the $150 rebate. My concern with the 8200 is with the earpiece. I've had problems with my 8100 earpiece and I don't want to repeat them. How is the speakerphone on the 8200? Can you carry a conversation with someone without the dreaded "I can't hear a word you're saying". My friend has a 4900 and when he talks on speaker it gets all distorted. You say the 8300 doesn't support 777 does the 8200? I'm in a tough situtation, my 8100 can go any day and I really would like to upgrade a little instead of getting a new one.

Well I went from a 8100 to a Samsung A680 and was in love.. but that's strictly a matter of opinion. :Popcorn2:

My cousin's 8100 fell in the toilet and Sprint replaced it with an a680. She still has that phone til' this day and loves it. (but of course misses her purple 8100 from time to time :p )

If you don't want to spend a lot, an 8200 would be worthy upgrade, for what it actually IMPROVES upon, compared to the limited features the 8100 had.

My 8200 speakerphone is pretty much worthless... Now that may just be me...
Yes, the 8200 supports #777, but the 8300 doesn't.

why is it worthless? because no one can hear you on the other line? This is the main reason I'm upgrading. If the speakerphone is useless for conversation then I might as well go will another 8100.

I went from an 8100 to A680. With a few features that I did like I still wasn't that impressed with it. I actually miss my 8100 but not shortmail. My perfect phone would combine certain features that the A680 has with certain features that the 8100 has but only the best features. Throw in a speakerphone, more internal memory for downloads, maybe readylink or DC whatever Sprint plans on calling it and I would have a sweet phone.

225 should be a worthful upgrade to the 8100 IF you wanna stay near low end....otherwise the 8300 isnt all bad. 535 is always a wise decision
