I was able to log into a bank account and a fantasy football site that the regular built-in browser could never handle

Yup, fantasy football, the top reason this browser will be used for me :) The other browsers actually ran out of memory and would not display the page, somehow Operamini is able to overcome that.

I'm glad we all found a solid solution to get this thing to work for everyone.

Thanks to all of you that put the wo/man-hours into figuring this entire debacle out. I would have given up days ago, myself.

I just did the 'lo-fi' -> English -> 'hi-fi' install on my phone, and it works decently, now. Wish it would work a little faster at times, but better slow than non-functional!

I've got Opera-mini (hi) working perfectly on my MM7400.
I tried installing the low version, but it would crash when starting. I erased it and then tried the hi version. Using the upload tool at www.gtoal.com/pcs/ (http://www.gtoal.com/pcs/) didn't seem to work though. Looks like there's a server problem going on there, so I used pcs.cruz-network.net/ (http://pcs.cruz-network.net/) instead and only uploaded the jar file.
Then I used the info in this thread (http://sprintusers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=757848&postcount=70) to change the language to English and bam, good to go!

From what I can tell, myself and at least four others got it to work by installing the low version and then installing the hi version overtop of it (i.e., overwrite the low with the hi).

I think its just to tell people that internet use is not automatically free... so if you don't have a set amount of data usage allowed in your monthly bill you might see a new fee... (like Cingular customers that don't get unlimited)

Opera works great, and page rendering is faster on an EVDO phone than on a vision phone. The EVDO chipset in these newer phones makes a world of difference. Plus, the new EVDO phones have larger caches or heap memory like 4 mg or so

someone post wap links to both the high and lo versions again, and don't name them "Opera Mini" (i wanna be able to keep a backup, the one i have works....sorta...).

alos, whatever they get named, give them both the same name, i'm gonna try overwriting the lo with the high to see if i can actually get into the menu.

Why don't you just download the JAD & JAR files to your computer? If there even are working WAP links (everyone's been using the felipe ones I think), the only person who could change the name of the file for you would be the person who's hosting it. In other words, not gonna happen.

Just download them here and rename them yourself:

out what phones (other then those ... already tested) are able
to use and what version ... it is here:

If you mean

http://mini.opera.com/my

that gives Application Authorization Failure. That's the "new" version that doesn't work for anyone (except for my Toshiba VM4050, ironically).

If you mean one of the other hyperlinks in that thread, please be more specific.

So you went to

http://mini.opera.com/my

It correctly detected your phone as Audiovox CDM-9950SP. You then clicked on Get Opera Mini. For me, the browser then goes into its regular download sequence. I don't know why it wouldn't for you.

Note that Opera Mini, after installation on a VM4050, does not fix or work around the 35KB bug. If the information you want is too far down a large page, it simply won't appear. :(

Hmmm... I have the "old" versions on my 535 AND my 940. As do many others. I'm guessing you were downloading from the wrong place, as there have been a few links posted. I think the one with the right files on it is down now, but I have the JAD & JAR files backed up.

I haven't tried the newer version... but glad to see some people are actually getting it to work now.

I tried every version posted on here and howardsforums, up until about a month ago, when I finally just gave up. Maybe the newest ones were working, but this official release was my first attempt since giving up.

The newer version seems to be a lower version of the hi version, but not as lo as the lo version, if that makes any sense.... like somewhere in between...

Steb, to save you some aggravation, go to page 15 of this thread or thereabouts...Laursifer posted a site where you can download both versions of opera mini...upload the low res first, then in the menu, change it to English...after you have accomplished this, upload the hi res version and use it to overwrite the other one...when it installs, you should have a working version of the hi res browser and the bottom left softkey should say "menu" in English...that way you'll know you did everything right...

laursifer
11-09-2005, 03:32 PM
To save everyone lots of trouble, I'm going to post the actual files here. Mostly because the site we were all going to for these files is now down. It would be wise to right-click, Save As for these files. Also, note that the JAD files are optional and here's why... Gtoal hasn't been working today but hopefully this is temporary. It was the only uploader I could find that would take your JAR & JAD and send them to your phone as ONE download. But then, in an effort to help someone out today, I gave Rumkin a try. Rumkin, the snazzy lil' thing that it is, will write its own JAD file from the information embedded into the JAR file (Rumkin does not support the uploading of your own JAD files, so all you can send is the JAR). I know, more than you needed to know...

So anyway, I still suggest Gtoal when and if it decides to work:
http://www.gtoal.com/pcs/

And until then, Rumkin's working well:
http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php

http://trickyspider.net/_su/operamini/operalow.jad
http://trickyspider.net/_su/operamini/operalow.jar
http://trickyspider.net/_su/operamini/operahi.jad
http://trickyspider.net/_su/operamini/operahi.jar
Now, how to install...

You will first need to install Opera Low. Once on your phone, you should probably run the application for good measure, though it's probably not necessary.
Install Opera Hi to your phone and let it overwrite Opera Low. DO NOT DELETE OPERA LOW BEFORE INSTALLING OPERA HI.
Run the application (you will need to hit an OK button to pass through some kind of agreement or something... on both versions of Opera, I believe) and you will notice it's in a language you probably don't know.
From the main screen hit #8 on your keypad. This will open the Settings window, which will of course be in a language you probably don't know. Scroll all the way to the bottom of this page and click on "Norsk." An option for English will show up and you would probably enjoy clicking on that.
To save your settings, hit the left soft key. This should return you to the main screen and you will hopefully notice that "Meny" is now "Menu." Clicking on Menu will bring up your options in English.
Easy as that.

P.S. Word on the streets says that Gtoal is throwing people errors when they upload, but it's still supplying a link you can browse to yourself through Vision and it works! However, if you don't feel like manually typing out those URL's, copy and paste them into SU's text message thingy and send it to yourself.

Way to go with the info. I was actually able to run the Hi version that was available on mytreo.net for my 650. Tried doing the lo then hi and it wouldn't work? Visually it is AWESOME! I have noticed some problems with it though. For some reason, some pages load and some don't. Plus pages where a login is required the system gets all "hinky" :dazed: ?

I got the v1.1.2777 (20051109) build yesterday and it works GREAT!
It IDd me as a Sanyo PLS-7400, but downloaded right away.

The old version, that I still have, is v1.01.1479 (20050810), so they
did a lot of improvement in the past three months, huh?

- It is completely in English
- It does not have the pre-loaded TV2 bookmarks
- It retains all my added bookmarks
- It has improved start page

yeah I noticed the cookie issue too... after I thought it was working ok and deleted the older version :((

other than the cookies not being retained for some sites (it remembers me on site threads but not other threads within the Opera Mini forum haha - so it would seem it does keep the cookies but doesn't access them right) it works good for me.

Just got the hi version 1.1.2287 working on mine too, no problem. Weird though, how something like the "O" logo in the applications folder is now just the generic "folder" icon.

For those of you who are using the new version of Opera Hi AND used the old version before that, can you think of any real reason for the upgrade (for those of us who haven't upgraded yet, like my lazy self) now that you've been using the new version for at least a few days?

My higher image quality and smooth text settings work without a hitch on both my phones, so that's not an issue. Have you guys and gals come across anything that's a true improvement? Besides the fact that it installs in English, of course...

The newest version 1.1.2292 as listed on the wap site, gives that Authenication Error when downloading on my 7400. Just thought I'd share the direct link to download that version's jar to your PC and upload to your phone.

http://mini.opera.com/builds/releases/operette-1.1.2292/operette-hifi_nordic.jar

This version is installed in English, a bunch of preloaded bookmarks and an option to have your bookmarks show on the start page. There's a "Links" section on the start page, but I can't figure out how to change, add or delete anything there.

I'm not having the auto-scroll option (on 535 or 940). Cookies are better... have only been asked to log back in to SU once since upgrading to this new version yesterday. Haven't been asked to log back in to GMail or NINMail.

It's too bad that Opera Mini apparently does not hook into the file-type handlers on the Sanyo 9000. In other words, the regular Vision browser correctly handles various media types, including streaming types that bring up Media Player. Opera Mini cannot do any of this--it simply gives an error when you click on such media.

Installs fine on my 535. Nothing was really improved or changed that I can tell. This build is only up to test WAP-APN compatibility.

I realize this is probably a stupid post, but how do I go about downloading these so that I can use them? I'm new to this and like the Opera browser, but have had problems with it loading some pages and not loading others. I'd like to get a version that works. Thanks in advance for any and ALL help.

Hate having to go from snapper mail then copie the url and then open up opera...blah, blah, blah!

Ah, neato. Still comes pre-loaded with bookmarks, still can't change the start page or edit the Links section. Bummer, man. From the Opera forum, here's what's been updated:

Changelog for build 2421
This build is a minor update from build 2292

- Swedish Typo removed on startpage

- Broken Danish default favicon fixed

- moved wma-permissions from MIDlet-Permissions to
MIDlet-Permissions-Opt to be able to run on some more handsets.

- Support for dynamic content type's to bypass provider proxies.

- Send less http headers to bypass some provider proxies

Yeah, I have the same problem. I think it's because it routes the request through their servers first. When I was running the Nordic version it was much faster, especially with EVDO. If only the built-in browser looked as good and could do as much...
