using the probable FCC ID of the Sanyo 9000, AEZSCP-90H, turns up nothing (yet) on the EAS generic search on the FCC website.

but to stay on topic, I don't like how Verizon is getting this phone first, but let's take a look at the positives:

1. We can all run to Verizon store and play with it the first day it comes out. We won't have to suffer through Sprint's possible delayed release. Granted the UI will be completely different, we can still get a feel for it and test out the camera, stereo speakers and such.

2. The more time they take with it, the less buggier it will be. We'll get a cleaner version than Verizon.

3. That's all i got

Hey all, been a lurker on this site for some time, and I can't wait for the A940 since I'm still using my VGA1000 (damn the short mail!) I do have one question. Does anyone know if the outter screen is still going to be an OLED? I know for the 970 it isn't and it seems the Verizon people seem to think the 940 will have OLED. OLED makes me drool. :) Come to think of it, this phone in general makes me drool lol.

Oh I thought I read somewhere that the a970 was coming out within the next month...maybe they will come out around the same time. The people around here that know sure aren't saying much ;). Anyway I'm hoping for OLED on the a940 because it's just so cool looking!

Thats what I'm saying. OLED would be great when combined with the External controls for the MP3 player. Would be so easy to see.

From this view, it seems that screen size was sacrificed for the placement of those stereo speakers, which is where all the filler or "head" as J. put it comes from:

 Now thats innovation! Id guess a new use for "cool to touch alloys".

I take it the screen wont be qvga. Im wondering why not in a phone that is meant to be used like a camcorder. That is one thing I like about the 800 with the slider closed and the nice @ss display you actually feel like you are using a digital camara.

Those two GSM Samsungs only have 4-color OLEDs. High-end Multi-Media handsets like this need 65K color displays, and Sprint/Verizon weren't willing to pay the price for OLED technology...

I am jealous of the phone itself, coming to VZW before Sprint's A940. However, I'm not jealous of crippled Bluetooth. ;) (It appears to be even more crippled than my PM-325)

You guys are crazy. Verizon seems to be beating Sprint to the punch, but at least the a940 will have the nice (albeit childish) Samsung UI as opposed to that stupid red and white Verizonized interface the a970 will possess. Now Motorola is going to start using it, and I'll once again be shopping for a carrier if the Razr has it. Thank goodness I remained out of contract.

FloorMatt
08-01-2005, 09:29 PM
Now, what about the beat box "feature"? Isn't it in the A970 as well as the A940?

I don't see it on the info card, up there.........maybe the card is for important features only? ;)

CoreyTheGent

LMAO, Verizon's not going to advertise that crap. Neither is Sprint.

anthony@ddn
08-01-2005, 09:37 PM
that would make the most sense to me matt. with that feature ppl will think you're just either really honked off at the person on the other end, or you mistook your phone for the ketchup bottle at a restaurant, and you're tryin to shake the first bit of heinz out. just let a child get a hold of it. you think it makes cool noises now, wait till ya hear the lack of noise it'll make after your 3 year old tosses it down the steps tryin to make a "fresh beat."

CoreyTheGent
08-01-2005, 09:39 PM
Yeah, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Verizon version has it gutted out. I haven't heard any insiders discussing it. Either that or it's a pretty irrelevant feature which virtually no-one cares about.

They're really shaping up, but like always (at least when it comes to me), something must occur in which they take 2 steps backward for every step forward. In this case it's the across-the-board implementation of that POS UI. Verizon wants to strip away as much of a phone's individual identity as they can get away with.

As for BT, Matt, tuolumne says the a940 will have full Bluetooth.

Toshia VM4050/Audiovox 9900 - Sprint by > 3 months
Samsung i600/same - Verizon by nearly a year
Samsung A700/Samsung A890 - Sprint by several months (excusable since VZWs version has EV-DO)
Treo 650/same - Sprint by > 6 months
PPC 6600/Audiovox VX6600 - Sprint by 2-3 months
Audiovox 8912/Audiovox 8910 - ?
Blackberry 7250/same - Verizon by 3-4 months

Samsung A600/Samsung A610 - Sprint by several months
Samsung A790/Same - Verizon by 1-2 months

The Samsung A970 is now in Infomanager with a launch date of September 2nd. I really have high hopes for this phone. You can also change the red bars to blue in the menu system.

Here is the info off of phonescoop.com about the a970.

This flagship CDMA phone features the country's first 2 mega-pixel camera with an optical zoom. Other key features include EV-DO high-speed data, Blue-tooth, a micro-SD memory card slot, streaming video playback, and speakerphone. The clam-shell body sports a twisting display for camcorder mode, an external display, and an internal antenna.

This is what VZW says about the phone in Infomanager. Notice they list an mp3 player.
Fun, Function and Features! The Samsung SCH-A970 gives a new twist to how you communicate with its 2.0 megapixel camera and camcorder with unique twist design, MP3 player that plays from a TransFlash memory card, stereo speakerphone and advanced speech recognition. The A970 is also Bluetooth®-enabled for supporting headsets and handsfree kits. This is the phone for anyone who loves technology, but doesn't want that technology to weigh them down! The A970 offers it all, plus Verizon Wireless Get It Now® network services that entice users with applications, such as games, ring tones and wallpaper.

I wouldn't mind the blade if it was being released sooner.... and had expandable memory. :( That killed it for me.

The phone is only slightly larger than the E815 and doesn't feel big or bulky at all in my hand.

It appears the a970 will use transflash (aka micro SD) rather than miniSD but don't worry FAUguy, we don't stand to lose anything with this memory format.

Still no info beyond what I have read here regarding the launch date. I believe it won't be released until we sell through the remaining a890's, which should be relatively soon.

User accounts:

I just played with a 970 again today and I must say that it seems to be a hell of a phone. I think it feels pretty solid and did feel a bit heavier than the 8000. the swivel is no where near as lousy as the 610 for all those wondering....as that was one of my main worries. The production model of this phone is pretty sweet.

I'm talking about the real phones, not the mock ups.

The sammy is definitely smaller and slimmer than the 8000. The 970 dummy phone did feel heavier as compared to my 8000. I really liked the feel of the sammy in my limited time holding it and using the swivel.

yeah can u imagine how absolutely perfect this phone would b with a 2.3 in screen or bigger? an oled ext. would make it even better but with both of those what else could anyone actually want in this phone
Thank God I'm finally reading some posts about display size, I thought I was the only one who cared about that, if this phone had a screen size like the Tosh 4050, or even close to it, my eternal search for the perfect phone just may be over for a long time, assuming this phone does all it says it does well. But NO! With all the greatness this phone seems to spew, they give us a non QGVA screen that's SMALLER than my 7400.... Jeeeeeezzzzz.........it's always somethin'
