Is it worth putting nice headphones on the 5600, or is the sound still sub par? The stock headphones that come with the 5600 are useless. It is not nearly loud enough. Are the headphones the weak link or is it the phone itself?

dude, stock headphones with any electronic product I've bought in the last 5 years all stink...I personally think the MP3 player on the 5600 sounds pristine...I use Shure E3C headphones, have never tried Etymotics...we are also assuming that you have recorded your music at a reasonably good bitrate...I'm listing to 160kb VBRs on my 5600, which sound fantastic...

My problem wasn't the quality. It was how loud it could play. Even at max volume it wasn't very loud.

I just received the Jabra C220s headphones for my 5600. They have ear gels that go into the ears and direct the sound right in there. I have only used them a lil bit but when I did the sound was alot loder. I got them at buy.com for like $20.

i have been using a pair of Koss pro 35 headphones from radioshack, I'd also like to get some highquality ear buds. As far as I can tell the sounds comming out of the 5600 is pristine, there is no addition of white noise by a cheap pre-amp, and there doesn't seem to be any distortion. The stock earphones are bad, almost any others will perform better.

My Shures seem very loud to me and I rarely listen at max volume...the rubber in-ear type earphones probably amplify the sound since it gets pumped straight into your ear while blocking out much external noise...
