I have read the threads about streaming media and am unable to establish my own server, i am really interested in this and would appreciate anyone with a site to please share it. Since i have a MM7400, i don't have any real storage, so streaming is the only way i can go. I know how to convert and all that jazz so, if someone knows how or has an existing site and would like some help adding to, i would be more then willing to share.....
Any response would be appreciated.

Join the "looking for help streaming" club. I've seen a couple people on here with sites set up with streaming content. But, no one really wants to help anyone setup their own or take time to write up a "how to" tutorial. If you find the help post on the forum

Its a little more envolved than that ACS your forgetting one major detail ...Hinting if none of your media is hinted it will not stream over DSS just any Ol 3gp or Mp4 will stream is has to have the Hint track. The only software that Ive found to do this Is Quick Time pro 7 has to be QT pro 7 not the free version you dont pay for ... or Sorrenson Media's sorrenson squeeze

questions about steps:
7.) will i have problems entering my ip address if i am using a wireless router with my notebook? what do i put in there?
10.) uh, yeah... i just did everything only to come to this step and remember that "oh yeah, i don't have a clue how to do that!!!"

step 7) if you are behind a router what you need to do is forward port 554. how you do this is type in 192.168.1.1 in your web browser and it should ask for a username and password. if you havent set one up, username= dont fill in anything password=admin . this should be a page to set up your router. now look for a tab that says something along the lines of forwarding or games and applications. click this tab and forward port 554 and enter in your ip address. now when you use your ip address for links, use ipaddress:554.
step 10) find a free web hosting site like geocities or freewebs and create links to your streamed files (rtsp://ipaddress/filename.mp4)

What Version of DSS are you using ?? You should be able to just make the folder if you
you dont have it but if everything installed correctly the folder should be there the path should be somthing like C:\Program Files\Darwin\Movies but if its not there you might be able to just create it .. I was using 5.1 then upgraded to 5.5 and in both versions it always installed a movies folder hope this helps

what is your original file? give some details on it (format, codec, length etc) it may be a codec that quicktime doesnt recognize. you may have to convert it to something else so quicktime can read it. the 'no audio' may be your problem. like ive said, if the file isnt converted EXACTLY it wont play. so if your audio isnt converting properly it wont play

I am just curious, but why not just use orb? I am all for darwin (I mainly work on a mac, but also have a windows laptop) but its much easier to setup just one program over several steps to get the above up and going.
just curious if there was an advantage.

that is the exact same problem i had when setting up my darwin. the reason is because the file was not converted properly. if you can stream to other computers, which i could too, then your server is working properly. the reason you cannot stream to the phone, is because the media player was only programmed to accept a very specific file type. if you read that other thread i posted the link to, you can read the steps i wrote to convert it with quicktime pro. if you do not have quicktime pro, it will not work. and you have to follow the steps EXACTLY. if you change just one option, it will not work. i would also try to start with a different video file. sometimes, mpg's dont work properly. try an avi or a wmv file.
