:fingers: This was originally posted under the "Samsung IP-A790 Out of Stock!" thread, so I apologize if you've read it twice. Newcomer obviously... :scare:
If you can hold a beer, then you can hold this phone.
By the way, I will test this phone this week on one of my trips or at the very latest early next month on whether or not it really can use other SIM cards. The tech rep said it was "unlocked" and the writing on the box also stipulates that it can use other SIM cards so I will get a chance to test it I'm sure.
Regarding the key pad, it is kind of retro 80's style and has taken me no time to get accustomed too. Nice lighting, but the case it resides in has no exterior plastic screen to tell me if I'm getting a call when it's on my dash in the car. The case also blocks some of the ringer volume which sucks when I have the music blarring. I guess I'll have to turn down the stereo and save my hearing... :music:
The screen is amazing as well as the digit size when entering phone numbers! Large numbers/letters help for this man's aging eyesight. The laquer finish is very, very nice. But is hard to keep clean on the outside and inside screen with all the fingerprints if you care... Ring tones are not great as most have elluded too. :irked:
Reception is great, weight is not a factor for me - blue tooth would have been nice, but I would have lost any wireless earpiece easily. The vision Sprint provides does work well and I can get internet/news capability at 15 fps which isn't bad at all. Almost clear as cable TV, but not quite...
Battery life is at least 3 hours - tested. Still going to get the extended life batt anyway just in case.
I just wrote a thank you letter to the tech rep in Cummings, GA and all his higher ups. They also took my last phone(Sanyo 8100) for $50 without question. Tech rep also transferred all 300 phone listings with no problem and I highly recommend you get them to do it = painless! No picture transfer of course...
Yes, it's very expensive even with the discounts - but I travel more than most so it will pay dividends beyond it's cost eventually...I hope, we'll see!
Awesome contact/address book as compared to any of the Motorola systems which do not input all the numbers/e-mail address's under ONE name. I hate inputting individuals over and over again. The address book works like it should when you put in the letters in consecutive order. Motorola only goes one letter deep, kind of a pain...you must scroll down anyway. Maybe newer Moto's have a better address book, but I do know the RAZR does not and it should!
This phone is definitley not for everyone and if it does not work as advertised on the road - then it's not for me as well. I have 10 days left and counting to prove it's worth it too me. :deal:
The phone is rather big compared to current phones, but I like it that way since the screen/keypad is phenomenal. Yes, the keypad once again doesn't look like it would be easy to use - but it is, especially with big hand digits!!!
Godspeed to all and if you have any questions, let me know since I probably haven't thought of them yet... I'll update as I test this sucka out!
Being a flyer, I did get reception with my last phone over the U.S. on CDMA at 22,000 feet, then lost the connection... We'll see with this one.
And yes, cell phones can scew with some systems up front. I can tell in my headset when one is on in the flight deck. We're supposed to turn them off as well, hmmmm... I just check for service once in awhile for curiousities sake!
G-Day to all!
