Whats the bid deal w/ this phone??

it was completely overpriced phone for its feature set...the hype was all in its thinness and looks really..and now that motorola and cingular made enough on the suckers that bought this phone for $500 to $650 they lowered the price substantially so every.

Yes, but the thread does not cover the fact that the new, "Special Edition" RAZR is already heavily discounted.:deal:

Oh, and sorry this thread doesn't mention anything about the Toshiba 4050, BC;)

I think it does.

Of all the people I've read who bash the phone, none that I am aware of have actually used it for any period of time. There were two people who did use who said they didn't like it, but they certainly weren't bashing it.

Amazing.

I would like to mention that when it first came out, I said there was no way I'd pay what they were asking, but if I could get it for $200, I would. And I did. I'm not sure why anyone would pay $600 for a non-Smart/PDA phone outright.
But, I like it a hell of a lot more than the VM4500 I paid $350 for 18 months ago.
For all its apparent hype over looks, what many of you fail to realize is that it's a great phone which is last I checked, the idea of owning a cell phone.

So, until you actually use this phone beyond playing with one in a store, you should really try forming an informed opinion first before spouting off.

What amazes me is how many people make poor assumptions, them accuse others of spouting off! Of of course I've used the RAZR! I never said the phone was junk, just overhyped and overpriced, thus my thread.

It's not you. It's the others chiming in who obviously haven't used the phone. Trust me, if I have a problem with you directly, I'll let you know. Thus far, I've found your posts to be thoughtful and intelligent.

Ok then, thank you. I just didn't want to get painted with the same brush as others. And yes, the general discourse on this board has definitely been lacking lately.

Ooh, now, you don't know me very well yet. I also put in some kind of qualifier. Hasty generalizations are a major pet peeve of mine ... would hate to be caught doing it myself.

Go back and re-read my post. You'll see that I noted a difference between those who bashed the phone and those who say they dislike it because they have actually used it.

I can respect your opinion if you have one that is well-formed and based on facts as well as your own personal experience, not just a snap judgement you made about a phone that Sprint doesn't even offer.

And trust me, when this phone came out, I had no problem getting a v551 and paying significantly less for what I thought was a superior phone with more features. I have ended up being disappointed with the v551 and after using the RAZR, couldn't go back. I like the wide keypad, I like the size and shape of it. It's a great phone. I may actually use it for six whole months! Heh.

But, to each his own. I'm a big proponent of that. I may disagree with you that the phone is overrated but I won't be an ass about it. I actually do agree that there has been an awful lot of hype about the phone. There has to be ... no other phone I've owned can every single person who has seen it also identify it. Everyone knows it's a RAZR. Victims of advertising, that.

So, were you testing out Cingular or do you have a Cingular line - say for work or some geeky reasons? Heh. ;)

I didn't really do much with it.......but, I did notice one thing: the keypad wasn't flush. (There was a gap at the top of the keypad....and you could see below) Of course, this doesn't mean all are like that.

I borrowed one from a client who was sick of the terrible service they were getting. I gave them a loner and forwarded the number. Short take: nice phone, poor service. And in a major metro area, no less! Btw, I caught your drift, quil, I just wanted to make sure, as originator of the thread, what my stand was.

Aah. Major metro area ... interesting. Well, I think I am really blessed to live in the Seattle area as all of the major carriers are very good here, though some better than others.

I can understand making sure something isn't directed at you. Like I said - and I'm not trying to intimidate you, heh - if I have a problem with someone, I will say so, in public. It's very, very rare, really. I don't like to fight. Not here, at least.

It's very interesting, though, that the RAZR has caused so much reaction and interest.

Oh, one thing about Amazon and the pricing ... I'm not sure what's up with that, but man, I have heard nothing but bad things about buying from them, that activating is difficult, they don't do ports anymore and the rebates take forever. So, maybe not the best indicator ... but sneak16 mentioned a $129 price tag with contract at Best Buy. That's interesting.
