Im really contemplating switching to vzw for this phone....but not having a camera, even a vga one is a bit of a turn off...is it supposed to have a camera? or is what i was shown @ verizon hold true to what this phone's features are? ;ie no camera.
i meant...was i just shown the business model w/no camera, or does the i730 (all of them) just have no camera, anyone?

From the pictures I've seen of it, there is a spot for a camera...........more than likely, VZW would carry a camera version also. I do not know for sure, of course.
heh i hope so...really i wouldnt mind the extra cost as the i730's bluetooth isnt crippled (viva wireless tethering!) like on the treo 650 verizon carries

Well, Sprint's Treo 650 isn't crippled........haven't heard about Verizon's version being crippled? (although.....knowing them.....it has to be crippled in some fashion)
yea...well lets just say sprint's been stepping on my toes a little too much for my liking in the last few months. and considering my contract expires in a few months ive been doing a little shopping around.

Well, you gotta do.....what you gotta do! I only hope....that you find what you are seeking! :)

Ok......go for it :)
Be sure to let us know how it is (in the Everything Electronics forum, perhaps), if you go through with it!

I think Verizon is kind of rough on PDA users. I was in there talking to one of the Reps and he said you would have to pay something like 50.00 a month extra and something lower for 25 but he said there was very little data use on the 25 one.

the one i talked to offered me the following. 600 mins, free IN calls, free roaming for $39.99/month + unlimited data pack for pda's for $39.99/month..the i730 for $499, and to pay 2/3's of my current etf were i to switch right now. :)

To me, thats not 2 good of a deal. I'd at least wait till the Sprint contract was done, and then hopefully u could still get the i730 for 500$. Whats the regular price of it anyway, 700$?

Currently the VZW phone does not come with camera, but the early demo models featured a camera. VZW decided NOT to have one in the initial release model.
If you check out http://www.pdaphonehome.com you'll see some emails users had received from Sprint that they plan on offering the i730. When, no one knows. Just depends if you'd rather have the Sprint or VZW coverage.

that all depends on sprints speed rolling out evdo...and wether they will allow tethering with this phone..i like sprints price but not its policies on tethering or its metred data plans.
So anyone know or have any info on the i730 and a possible camera version being released on vzw?

I played with it at work yesterday... It has a camera. It also has a really nice slider for the keyboard, and the tkb is set up similar to the 650, so it's really nice. The device feels really solid. Also, it has consumer IR, so using the built in remote control software is especially fun where I work at (Circuit City) :) I'm praying this phone comes to Sprint, I love it so much. If it doesn't, well I may look long and hard at verizon

The data plans with Sprint are A ok for now; but just saw a posting the EVDO data rate with Sprint is going to be $80 (hopefully they will have cheaper rates witht the phone accessing the the internet!

I just got a Sammy i730 for Verizon and I like it a lot. It is not quite as one-hand friendly as the Treo 650 but you can learn to do most things without pulling out the stylus. The battery life, even with the extended battery, isn't close to the Treo's but the EV-DO based web browsing is fantastic. I am pulling 750+ kbps download speeds in areas with good signal, around 300 in areas with low signal. I am betting that Sprint's data prices for PDA EV-DO are going to be similar to Verizon (I have $45 for unlimited which does not explicitly forbid DUN). It is not as cheap as $10 vision but it works nicely for me and means I do not need DSL at home anymore. At any rate, the 730 is hands down a better device (for me) than the 6600. I like the size and functionality. If you like the Treo's form factor but prefer Pocket PC OS to Palm, you should take a good look at the Samsung I730. Hopefully it will come to Sprint but if it doesn't, going to the dark side (Verizon) isn't so bad for such a great device.

Does the i730 support DUN, either over BT or USB ? I read in the pdaPhoneHome forums that it was crippled on the i730, even though the profile exists on the i730.

You can do DUN through USB but no one has gotten it to work with Bluetooth yet. Some of the folks over at pdaphonehome are working on it, though.

I just switched to Sprint and my rep had no idea if they where going to carry the i645 or i730. At least not for the next few months acording to her list of phones to be released.
