As I understand it, I can connect a date cable to both my phone and laptop and have wireless internet on my laptop wherever I get PCS service with Vision? Are there any catches or tricks or anything I am missing?

There's a big catch, specifically when Sprint catches you doing that :) Unless you buy a data plan for your phone, using it with a data cable on your laptop isn't allowed with the Unlimited Vision. A lot of people do it without getting caught, but if you do get caught the bill can be pretty out of control... i.e. in the thousands of dollars from what I've seen others post.

If I were you I'd be safe and grab a data plan. Well worth it, and you won't have to skirt around the rules!

How exactly would Sprint catch you doing so. I'm just curious.

They can tell by you amount of data usage. If you want to dare to venture by using your phone as a modem (don’t worry I do it to) go to -----

or your nearest Radio Shack.

People do it all the time right? As for me...I'm too damn paranoid.

I use it all the time. Well did when I had no internet. Really for them to know you have to basically tell them. The worse that can happen is for them to cancel your vision (the vision package). Or charge you your amount that month in vision or data usage. (Most unlikely)

Is there a difference in the data cables that you can buy?

nope, just make sure it's made for your phone model. in your case most sanyo phones are the same.

There are people on ebay that are selling cables for Telus LG 535 phones. Those should work with the Sprint 535s, right?

i had one or two friends that got caught, probably about 2 years ago, but that's because they were downloading 10gb a month. it was their primary internet connection and they were on kazaa all day (this was pre bittorrent era). all that happened was that sprint cancelled their vision plan and wouldn't let them put it back on. i use my phone with a data cable regularly, usually when i travel, but i don't go crazy with it, and i am not the least bit worried that sprint will care. the only thing i do make sure of is when i get a new phone i make sure that it is data cable-accesible, because i guess sprint could block it on new model phones if they wanted to, but i think that most phones do work.
hope this helps!
