December 2003 I bought a Hitachi G1000 phone.. Its the PDA/phone. Well, during the time I've had it, I hardly ever use it.. I could count the number of times on my hands that I've actually had it out of the house.
Well, just yesterday, the sync to my computer stopped working. The USB port had broken off..Yes, broken off. How?? I have no clue since I hardly use this phone at all. If you look at the phone, there is not one scratch on it and it ALWAYS stays in its leather case..It wont even sync on the dock now..
So I go to the Sprint store and they basically tell me I'm SOL for a problem which I believe is a factory defect. They lady told me "it could be because of your charging and usage habits". I was dumbfounded she said that because of how little use there was on the phone. I even told her to look up my account and tell me how many minutes I've used on this phone.. She did and said "There must be a problem. It has said 0 Minutes for the past several months". I said " There is NO problem. It is 0 and I told you to do that to prove I NEVER use the phone!!"
So anyways, I ask what my options are.. She said Sprint wont fix it. I asked her if they could atleast open it up to see whats wrong. She said no. But she was quick to tell me I could by the next similar phone for $699.99. So now I'm stuck with a second line for a phone that doesnt work!!!!!
I thought about sending it to Hitachi but I'm sure it'll cost more to fix it than what its worth..
What do you guys think I should do or is there anything I can do?? Or am I just screwed??
I didn't have insurance. But she did tell me even if I had insurance it beyond their scope of repair..

Sounds crappy. Call a tech and see if thats a known issue with that device. We've got a listing of known problems, and the g1000 has been out long enough to know if thats one of them. Regardless, i'd try your luck at another sprint store. Oh, and insurance will replace the phone regardless of what's happened to it. Lost, stolen, destroyed, etc.
Good luck with it, buddy.
BTW. That phone is huge lol

Haha tell me about it.. Thats one of the main reasons I hardly use it.
Stupid question. I dont know if this is cool or not so let me know.. If I get insurance now, can I file a claim??

From what I understand, you cant insure it after 30 days. Could be mistaken. Try taking it to a sprint store and see if you can add the insurance after they inspect it.

This is worth clarifying with the Lockline insurance people. I think they may have a waiting period of about 20-30 days before the insurance goes active, and they will test your phone to make sure it functions before allowing coverage by placing a call to it. If the problem doesn't prevent it from getting a call you may be able to add the insurance after all if they don't require it within the first 30 days.

Sounds very familiar. The USB port on my G1000 failed also. I had no Lockline at the time but the phone was less than a year old and still under waranty so I went to Sprint, to be told that the USB port can only fail from abuse. Wrong. I never forced the connector into the phone, it simply gave up the ghost on it's own voilition. However, there was no argument I could make to prove otherwise, so I ended up with an i600. Nice phone and PDA, but of course, my Pharos GPS for the G1000 does not work.
I'll keep a PDA/phone, but only install absolutely needed software on it such as mNotes, eWallet and Pocket controller. My intention is to go to an HP 4725 for primary PDA/GPS usage. Having it all in one device is nice, but loosing major functionality because the phone company or Lockline will not replace a faulty device with functional equivalency will not happen again.

You can't add Lockline after 30 days, at least I coudn't when I tried, and you have a 20 day waiting period if you make a change to your plan if you have Lockline. I moved from Oklahoma to Minnesota and replaced the G1000 with the i600 in Minnesota and added Lockline. After having the i600, with Lockline coverage, for a week I went into the store to change the phone number to a Minnesota number. Simply changing the number forced me into a 20 day hold on Lockline before I could make a claim. The phone was covered during that time, but any replacements would have to be after the 20 day waiting period.
