I got this program here and I converted a few video files. Only problem I have is with the sound. I can only get the 3gp files to work only if the sound is in 8bit Mono sound. If I try to make it stereo even at 8bit the files fail to convert. Is there any other way or program to convert video files so that I can at least have 8000mhz or 16000mhz stereo??

alright well i just finished using stereo sound in 3gp converter "QCIF Normal quality15fps stereo" it came out ok but the sound lagged the video just a lil, doing it in mono it was perfect and sounds just as good, you should try and dump the soft sh*t and use 3gp converter

I am trying to use Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter on the video files from a Samsung A940. The files convert fine as long as I set the "Disable Audio" option to "True." I would like to be able to have audio as well. Even mono would be acceptable. I am trying to convert them so that I can e-mail them in a more common file format than .3G2 as well as being able to import them into Windows Movie Maker for editing.

Thanks,
Yogi

Well... to watch them on your A940, just look in the FAQ. There is a tutorial in there that tells you how to do it with all free software and IT WORKS. Xilisoft's 3GP converter sucks, in my oh-so-humble opinion. And you should be converting to 3GP not 3G2 (unless you're making these as video ringers?).

As far as converting them into more common file formats so you can email them and edit in WMM... This is completely unrelated, really. The only format still recognized by the 940, besides 3G2, is MPEG4 (MP4). You can convert files to this format with QuickTime pro... and maybe some other programs, but that's what I use. As far as editing, why wouldn't you do that BEFORE converting the files?

*Edit... I have not yet tested MP4 on my 940 yet, so I can't confirm that it works. It should. I'm working on testing it shortly here.

You don't seem to understand what I am trying to do. I have recorded video using the camcorder feature of the A940. The phone saves those files in .3G2 format in the DCIM folder on the Transflash card. I then transfered the files to my computer using a card reader and the Transflash to SD adapter that was included with the camera. I now would like to transcode the files from the uncommon .3G2 to another, more common, format such as .AVI. That way, I could use typical video editing applications on the video I recorded using the A940.

Thanks,
Yogi

In that case, you're going to need to purchase software. I suggest QuickTime Pro, which I am almost positive will convert 3G2 to MPEG (works with 3GP without a doubt, so in theory it should work with 3G2--I'll have to test it when I get home). Other options, which are only cheaper by about $5, are programs almost exactly like Xilisoft's (IMToo, Magicbit) so you might experience the same problems with them.

I will try to convert a 3G2 into MPEG with QuickTime Pro (well worth the $30) when I get home and let you know the results.

Check the FAQ for the tutorial--this is why we have those things. There's a link in there.
