I don't think it matters with your phone, as they aren't phone specific. It's something that's done on the back end, so it shouldn't matter. I haven't tried it on the other line, because it was funny at first, but was annoying real quick.

It works on all phone's since everything is done on Sprint's side, not on your actual phone.

I have a Treo 650 and Call Tone's work as expected.

Login to your My PCS.........scroll towards the bottom........look for the link below Ringer, Screen Savers, and Games.

Edit: Here is an example

Dont have those links, never had them. I always assumed I was just not offered those links since the PPC does not officially support Java apps/games, or ringers.

I don't think people with the 6600 can't get caller tones because we don't have content managers. :irked:

I was kinda interested in trying this.

Yes the 6600 does.....sort of. Go to the business site and look on either the 6601 or the 6600 and there is a link to customize the phone. They have a selection of ringers, themes, games, etc... there to choose from. I know it is not much but something.

Anyway I have modified a collection of ringtones and system sounds to be really loud. You can download them and copy the ringtones to your Ring directory and your system sounds to your Windows directory.

Lound Ring Tones & System Sounds:
You think the ringtones are not loud enough? Never miss another call with this collection of LOUD ringtones and System sounds:

I am not seeing the caller tones though. :(

I set a bunch up for my husband's phone and specified who hears what when they call him.

When I call him I hear elevator music and a lady telling me that my husband appreciates my call and will be with me shortly. :D

I don't see where Sprint's site will allow us to do that for the ppc6600. :indiff:

I checked my Dad's My PCS page (phone is currently the i500).......and it has all of the things in the screenshot I posted. We'll see on Saturday when it's switched to a 6600.

I really want to be able to do this. The elevator music ones are pretty funny. :D

I can confirm that PDA users cannot order Call Tones at this time. I have been talking to Sprint Support for the last 3 hours trying to get it, and finally they said PDA users can't order them because we don't have content managers.

I am not using the 6600, I'm still using a G1000. But it doesn't matter. The holdup is that we don't have content managers on the mypcs page.

Too bad. Sprint needs to get with the program. Here I am trying to give them more money and they're refusing to take it.

And while we're at it, lets get personalized call tones. Let me upload my own and use them.

Salty,

Did they say when we can get a content manager on our mypcs pages???

SaltyDawg
06-17-2005, 08:07 AM
Nope, they didn't say when. They just said that since we don't have one that we couldn't order anything (including call tones).

I actually have 2 phones on my account too and I can order call tones for the other phone. But it isn't a PDA phone.

Hopefully they can work this out sooner rather than later.

The Sprint reps kept telling me, "PDA phones can't have downloads from the Sprint website. You can get them from other websites." And I kept telling them, "It's not a download. If I can have voicemail I should be able to have a call tone."

Well I know it's costing Sprint money to leave the PDA users out, so hopefully the higher ups are aware of the issue and they will get it fixed. But if the higher ups don't even know, then we can pretty much forget it.

Yeah... I know what you mean.

My hubby has a Sanyo 8200 and I was "installing" caller tones for him last night. I have a great on for when I call him that plays elevator music and tells me to "Hold on, your husband will be with you shortly...Your husband appreciates your patience." Considering

Call tones aren't available in affiliate markets so the link won't be on the site if you're in one. If you do get one don't expect it to work at first but after a day or so, my worked perfectly. But that was after calling about 3 times and having my money refunded by a tech twice.

Have never tried...

We are in a normal Sprint market, btw.

I'm sure he's not going to want me downloading (or call toning) anything on his line.

I signed into mypcs with my husband's phone number, then switched a tab to my number. I am going to buy a caller tone and see if it works.

NinjaMom
06-19-2005, 10:29 AM
Well...When I signed in under him and switched to my phone number I had a content manager at that point and it would show my phone and everything. I bought a caller tone and assigned it to my husband's number so that he would hear it when he called me.

It has been a few minutes and it doesn't seem to be working. When I assigned caller tones for his phone...it worked within 5 mins. So we shall see....If it isn't working by tomorrow I will call Sprint.

SaltyDawg

So when you sign in with your husband's number and then change the tab to yours, after you go into the content manager, is the number at the top still your number or is it your husband's?

This is exactly what I did before calling Sprint when it didn't work. I signed in with my wife's number, and then changed it to mine. I then had a picture of my phone, with content manager and call tone links and everything down at the bottom (exactly like the screenshot FloorMatt posted except with my G1000 instead of the 6600). But once I clicked on content manager, the phone number at the top changed to my wife's. I actually ordered a call tone (from the screen with a picture of my phone) and set it to the default ringtone all the time. The problem was it went on my wife's line and not mine.

So FloorMatt, I would bet you guys have more than 1 phone on your line and if you order a call tone it will go on another line- not the 6600. And NinjaMom, you might want to check your husband's line and see if that call tone went there. Set it to the default ringtone all the time and then call your husband's line and see if you hear the call tone.

FloorMatt

Yep, I think you're right. I signed in with the primary phone number (not the 6600).

Now, to try signing in with that specific number.

It is really annoying that they don't atleast give us an option to use these. I know there are some people who won't, but some of us always want to customize our phones.

My fiance` and I are planning to buy a pair of 6600 with camera very soon. I currently have a VM 4500 and make my own ringers. including voice ringers. The PPC uses .wma and .wav, most of us know that. You can make your own .wav files on your computer by using the "sound recorder" included in windows. As soon as I get mine, I will be making custom ringers for our phones. You don't have to pay sprint for ringers, and for PPC users from what I gather you can't buy ringers. Feel free to look else where for programs and games. Remember, YOU HAVE A POCKET PC! You capabilities are very BROAD! If your looking for progams/games, you can purchase them just the same or try shareware versions. Google, such terms as PDA software, or Pocket PC software or PDA/POCKET PC games. Cnet.com has TONS of free/shareware downloads to try at the DOWNLOAD section of their website. There are many sites out there that list types of programs/games to use on your Pocket PC. As soon as I recieve mine, I plan on posting to the PPC/PDA section of SU.com much more often, hopefully I can help some users, and HOPEFULLY I can learn new, more technical things about PPC's and how to modify things.

You're kidding, right? You don't know that the PPC-6600 is a Windows OS, Pocket PC 2003? You've never looked at the information for the device? Then I guess you wonder why none of those Plam apps you have tried work. :)

LOL. While your effort is certainly appreciated, this is not what we're trying to do. For the record, I am an amatuer music producer and have lots of equipment for making my own music (and I make my own ringers all the time). Check out my studio pics here. (http://www.geocities.com/salty_dawg3/crappy_camera_studio_pics_page.html)

I also use a program called Griff. Check it out here. (http://www.planetgriff.com/) It allows you to make your own music right on your pocket pc. Windows recorder sucks. I've heard Audacity (a free download) is a pretty good wav recorder/editor.

So I'm pretty well versed in how to make a ringer. What we're trying to do is use call tones. What that is is when someone calls you, instead of them hearing the standard sound, they hear a customized recording. So it's not something you can download and install on your phone. It's all done on the backend at Sprint. You actually don't hear it, but whoever is calling you hears it.

SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
