I have a samsung sph-a660. Iam just wondering a can i use them for something other than a modem.

yes, you can... check out bitpim (search on this site for it, you'll find out how to get it and some of how to use it)... you'll have to manually get into your filesystem to add files, but you can add ringtones, 'screensavers', gaems, and apps.
It CAN be done, but you have to research it (try google)
