I'm dissapointed in the sound my 8200 when playing actual sound recordings for ringer tones. When I was choosing between the 8200 and the 7400, I would have chosen the 7400 if I knew the difference in how the ringer would sound.

Anyway, sites like DBringers are awesome, but I can't live with the sound quality of actual audio clips on my 8200. Instead I would rather have the recreated ring tones like the ones that already come with the phone. Please explain what I need to be looking for(what is thier file type... AAC? I am clueless on this so far...) and where to find them.

Thanks!

1st, let me say I’m glad you like my site  , lol.
Now as for the sound quality; the 8200 only supports what's know as QCP (sometimes called realtones, purevoice, etc) ringers. It is a digital file type, but it is EXTREAMLY compressed, to fit on cell phones limited amount of memory. But do to that compression a lot of quality is lost.
The 7400 (which I have) supports QCP and AAC (which basically is a MP4). Only like 5 or so Sprint phones currently play this type of ringer (Sprint refers to them as Multi-Media phones). There is a huge difference in the quality of the ringers as well as size. Luckily though the 7400 has significantly more memory so you don't run out of space too soon. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about the 8200's sound quality. The built in ringers sound clear, but they are polyphonic ringers, and cannot play digital sounds. There are several free polyphonic (aka MIDI) ring sites out there I believe; but I just don't carry them on dbringers (I specialize in just "voice ringers").
If you just got the 8200 you might still be able to bring it back and put it towards a 7400, which in my opinion is a great phone.
Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

Thanks DB!

So the problem is the lack of space and the necessary encoding and not the hardware. That makes sense to me, as I couldn't figure out why Sanyo would use hardware that sounded so poor for something it was "designed" to do. Also, why would speaker phone calls sound clear (questionably), when the ring tone is so bad. So, it all is much more clearer to me now.

So, looks like I will just have to wait it out until I am ready for another upgrade- keyword will now be MM!. Ringers aren't that important to me, but I am a bit of a technophile and I like playing around with the capabilities.

I believe my father in law is soon to give up his 7400 for a different model, and that one may be passed down. I'll put that one on my wife's number and start downloading some of the cool ringers found at your site.
