Hi, I am now on my second USB cable for my Sanyo 8100 and I don't understand how to work it. I want to be able to put data, such as pictures, songs, etc., on my phone but I don't know how to do so. If someone could help me, that would be awesome.

Also, there are a couple of pictures on my phone that I want to put on my computer. Is that possible? These are pictures that I downloaded from friends and aren't in my photo album online, as well as no longer in theirs.

Please let me know. Thank you so much!

well.. as far as the pics.. you'll need some sync software (snapmedia, bitpm.....)

ringtones/screensavers... two options.. sync software.. or use a mobile uploader.. there's several around the net.. sprintusers has one called 'Focus' that'll do the trick...

hope this helps ya..

On the Sanyo 8100, you can not transfer those kinds of files.

Yes, I'm sorry, it's true. And I was upset to find that out too, but Sanyo 8100 and even the 8200 (mine) do not allow you to pull or add pictures through the USB data cable. Same with Ringtones. Other phone models allow the USB connection to communicate to and from those directories on the phone. I even have the snap software that the other person referred you to. They are made by a company called "Future Dial" - you can visit their site and see for yourself, as they list what can and can not be done given the model of the phone you use. The data cable for the 8100 and 8200 basically only serves 2 purposes, but I DO find both to be useful... Backing up my address book is easy, and uploading it to this phone back when I first got it was a breeze, as well. The other feature, and this is the one I really like, is that by using the phone and USB cable with Future Dial's "Snap Dialer" software, I can take my laptop ANYWHERE I get a Sprint signal, and I have internet access on the laptop. No, it's not highspeed, but it IS about twice as fast as dialup. It's an extremly handy tool if you have a laptop but can't find a standard internet connection. Word of Advice? If you are going to backup or easily edit your phone book on the computer, download a program called BitPim - Much better than SnapSync by Future Dial, and BitPim is FREE! - I wish I had websites for you, but just do a google search for any of those. I'll quit rambling now.

what are you talking about? :haha:

that post is about as true as anything president bush has ever said :p

I have been able to use bitpim and my usb data cable NUMEROUS times to transfer ringers and photos to the phone......they go in a different folder than when you download them through vision. look tools/extras>pc sync>ringers (images) and they should be there.

BitPim is the way to go. jjc if you have been able to transfer your phone book i dont see why you havent been able to transfer pictures and ringers.....

ooh forgot to add that you need to search around the 'net to find the proper drivers, but if you are transfering the phone book that shouldnt be your issue.......

Thanks for the help, just a couple more questions...

Can I transfer pictures off my phone onto my computer? Also, where can I get BitMap and how does it work? Do I just download it and then everything will work?

Thanks for your help!!!

Yep, pictures can be sent both ways. Go grab the file from where Matt linked to and then plug in your data cable, and set make sure you select to use the sanyo 8100 in bitpim and you should be good to go.

It has been a while since I set it up the first time, but it was pretty straight forward.

If you run into any issues post them here and people will gladly help you straighten them out.

I didn't even know you could do those things with an 8100.

so then what would be the benefits of getting a 5600 I wonder?

I mean I know the obvious ones but if the 8100 has those capabilities Maybe I should wait to upgrade to the 5600?

I do like my 8100!

excuse geeky post. :wavey:

I'm a Datapilot user who just found out about Bitpim from this post. So far, I like Bitpim much better. I was able to quickly retrieve almost everything off my Sanyo 8100 including the entire operating system! Datapilot has a tendency to crash when retrieving photos from my phone so I have become disappointed with that product. Bitpim downloaded everything, except for the games, very quickly. If I wanted to keep the games, I suppose I could backup the "File System". I was even able to backup the photos in my "picture wallet", which Sprint tech support said was not possible. I suppose they can't recommend 3rd party software. Bitpim also backed up my ring-tones, calendar, to-dos and everything else it said it could do.

A benefit of Datapilot is that I can write my own ring-tones with it, but that's not a big deal.

Here's my situation.

I ordered a replacement Sanyo 8100 that just arrived a few days ago. I want to transfer as many files/settings over to the new Sanyo 8100 phone before I return the old phone back to the Lock\Line insurance program. It looks like Bitpim will allow me to back up the entire OS and transfer it, but I noticed that there is a newer operating system (1.116SP) on the new phone as opposed to the older operating system (1.114SP) on the old phone and I know that might cause problems. I'd rather keep the newer OS anyway. I intend on using the "Send Phone Data..." option, but I'm concerned about any incompatibilities between the operating systems. What are the chances that something will go wrong with the transfer? Does anyone have suggestions?

I just received a USB data cable (for my Sanyo 8200) that I bought on Ebay. I also downloaded the USB drivers from the Sanyo website. However, I'm not getting the "Found New Hardware" message when I connect the USB cable to my PC. The phone perks up and displays the "<-" connection symbol in place of the battery logo, but the PC doesn't seem to recognize that I've connected a device to the USB port.

- I tried it on both my PCs (Dell Dimension P4 with USB2 ports running XP Home SP1) with the same disappointing results.
- I also tried recycling power on the phone before connecting. No luck.

What am I doing wrong? :frustrate:

Please help!! Thanks.

I used the "Send Phont Data..." option and everything transferred over to the new Sanyo 8100 just fine ... except the photos ... no big deal. I won't be keeping photos on my cell phone anymore. All worked well.

I... I'm not getting the "Found New Hardware" message when I connect the USB cable to my PC ...

I don't get that message either, but it's not necessary in my experience. I don't think the older cell phones are set up to be browse-able by Windows as external devices. I know many of them run on java-type operating systems. The most important thing is for your sync software to recognize the cell phone. Which software are you using to sync your cell phone? There is usually a feature which will allow you to "test your connection" or "locate the computer port" your cell phone is located on.

:wavey: This is 2 months late, but maybe I can still help. I had the same problem. I finally realized the phone was listed as a modem in the Device Manager. I think the drivers we downloaded are only for connecting to the internet by modem. I'm gonna try BitPim. I hope it works. I'm glad I found this site!

It sounds great, but I'm having trouble getting my phone data. My usb port is active, but not available. Apparently, the driver and port are correctly configured and the device attached. The phone seems to be using Com 4. I'm not sure what to do. Can anybody help?

 :1zhelp:

alizonwoman COM4 is the right port. Launch Bitpim and you should see a settings window pop up (otherwise use pulldown menu Edit->Settings). Set the Disk Storage to the File/Folder on your hard drive which you want to use as your CellPhone Data Repository.
Set the port to COM4. You don't have to check any other boxes just click "Okay".

Then using pulldown menu Data->Get Phone Data watch the bar on the bottom of the window to check progress. Hope this helps - gurubaba

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if you can pull txt messages off of a sanyo 8100 using the usb cord? I have bought the usb cord, and it came with a driver installation cd, but my computer doesn't recognize the phone after I installed it onto Window's XP. How the heck do I get my computer to "see" the phone? Help? Anyone?

Thanks!

Hiiiii, I hope that you are still interested in this topic, I know I'm little late in the forum but I get my 8100 without USB cable or anything and here in Colombia it's very difficult - IMPOSIBLE - found any cable or accessories to this kind of phone.

The thing is anyone with any software could ever upload some files that weren't MIDI or PNG???

By the way, I have the last version of bitpim (0.9.02) from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/bitpim/bitpim-0.9.02-setup.exe?download it has new cool functions, but I cannot get the Futuredial or the Snapmedia for free, can anybody help me? I love my Sanyo, but I want MP3 ring tones, it can't be done?

PS. Excuse my english. Thanks. :feedback:
