Signed up for Gmail and thought I could get email on my phone, A620 by accessing www,gmail.com. Instead got the following: "no matching CA certificate" Do you want to continue. Answered "yes" and the phone either hangs up or I get 902 or 209 error.

Talked to my tech expert son, who does trouble shooting for Google, AOL etc, load balancing issues etc.

Called Sprint and they say this phone does not support SSL, to which my son says they are full of crap. If the phone sees it needs a certificate it does support SSL, but that Sprint has not taken the time to configure the software needed.

Can anyone tell me how to load the proper CA? Has anyone done it? I do not want to use Sprints mail system. I currently use Yahoo but it does not have support for the number of contacts I need and screws them up.

Who do I talk to at Sprint to get the necessary information to make the fix?

You can go to wap sites with that phone. Not traditional html sites like you would on a regular computer.

It's confusing, but the web browser on most phones [like the A620] don't actually browse normal websites. They read special sites written in WAP code, not HTML code. Many phones can still handle a *little* HTML, but if the site is complex at all (like most are today) your phone will give you a weird error.

Some people have been able to use Gmail on their WAP phones using a 3rd party website which basically checks your Gmail for you, then loads it onto a WAP site for your phone. The problem with this is that you have to give the 3rd party your password to Gmail, which means that if the 3rd party isn't honest they could use your information in ways you wouldn't want them to.

I don't remember the various sites that let phones access Gmail, but if you do a Google search or a quicksearch on this site (at the top of this page) you might find some helpful info. Good luck!

PS - Depending on what you need, you might can just add a "contacts list" to your Yahoo address book and email a large group of people by just adding the list name on the phone. Know what I mean?

I need the phone contacts to be able to look up individual contacts. I have over 700 in my database.

Son has indicated this is a software issue, not a hardware issue. If that is the case why has Sprint chosen not to update their software to be compatible with SSL.

I also have Gmail. There is an option on Gmail to forward your email to another account. I have my emails forwarded to my SprintPCS mail and then I can read them on my phone.

Hope this helps. :bang:

I have the option of forwarding to my Yahoo account and picking up the messages there. However Sprint and Yahoo do not have enough contacts for the type of business I do. Gmail has unlimited contacts. This is what may be one of the areas that sets them apart.

Yahoo also limits the number if emails you can flag as spam. Foolish in my opinion.

I'd really like to see Gmail set up a WAP option for phones. I know from previous responses that I can get the email through third parties, but I deal with email that is considered private and do not want a third party to be able to read my email. Do not think it wise to give out passwords under these circumstances.

I have notified the Gmail development folks and have asked for the WAP option. We will see if they develop.

Thanks for the help!

Norma,

I know you do not want to use the Sprint email but. Right now, I have a Gmail account and I am using to forwarding option on Gmail to forward my emails to my SprintPCS account and then I can read my Gmail on my phone using my SprintPCS account.

Thanks,

Jeff C. :headbang2

I know I can do that and gave that option consideration. However again with a large number of contacts seeing all the contacts on your phone becomes an issue. Yahoo recently has increased the number of contacts available to be stored, so is now the better option. The best option would be to have Gmail have WAP available. I hope they will do before it goes out of Beta testing.

I have the Sanyo MM-7400 phone and I also have Gmail. I'm able to check my mail at gmail.com on my phone given that i choose to load the site in HTML format without frames. Maybe gmail's website isn't in the correct parameters of your phone?

My phone is not set up to handle SSL which most are not. The phone can handle WAP.
