Samsung OEM USB Cable (black)
32MB TF card (Scan Disk)
TF-SD adapter (Scan Disk)
Documentation
Handset
Battery (with cover housing)

-->Media

Q. Can I use the included USB cable to put ringers/screen savers on my phone?

The only use the included USB cable is PictBridge and #777 DUN. The A800 does not function as a mass storage drive as the 5600 does (allowing you to drag/drop files onto the phone). Instead, you have to plug the included Micro-SD adapter into your computer (SD adapter necessary) to put screen savers on your phone, and upload the ringtones.
Q. How can I assign ringers via my TransFlash card?

Sadly, you cannot. You have to upload ringers through the Rumkin (http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php) or Focus (http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/) uploaders. Q. How can I assign wallpapers via my TransFlash card?

Plug the TF card into its SD adapter, and then that into your reader/writer. Click on the removable drive in My Computer. If the folder “DCIM” is not already present, create it. In the “DCIM” folder, create another sub-folder called “100SSPIC”. You can place your respective wallpapers in this folder. Place the TF card back into your phone and go to “My Pictures” and then “Memory Card”. Click on the files you would like to use as display items and select “options”. Now select “copy/move” and then “Save to Phone”. The MM-A800 supports PNG, JPEG, WBMP, and animated GIFs, for display items, although all have to be under 128kb.. Q. How can I listen to MP3s/AACs via my TransFlash card?

Plug the TF card into its SD adapter, and then that into your reader/writer. Click on the removable drive in My Computer. If the folder “MEDIA” is not already present, create it (selecting “Media Player” and then “Memory Card” will come up with an option to create the “MEDIA” folder if it is not already there). In the Media folder, you are free to put in MP3, AAC, and AAC+ file formats. Q. How can I view videos via my TransFlash card?

Plug the TF card into its SD adapter, and then that into your reader/writer. Click on the removable drive in My Computer. If the folder “MEDIA” is not already present, create it (selecting “Media Player” and then “Memory Card” will come up with an option to create the “MEDIA” folder if it is not already there). The MM-A800 supports MPEG 4 and .3GP files for playback. For the conversion process involved, refer to Deval’s Video conversion FAQ (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61517). Place the respective content in the “MEDIA” folder for playback. Q. Can I upload Java Midlets to the MM-A800?

Yes, the MM-A800 will support J2ME, MIDlet, M3G downloadable file types. The heap size is 2048kb and the JAR size limit 256kb. Use the Rumkin Uploader (http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php) to download them to your phone. Q. Does BitPim work with the MM-A800?

No, the MM-A800 is currently not supported.Q. Do Futuredial and SnapSync function with the MM-A800?

Yes, Futuredial will work in using the MM-A800 as a wireless modem via #777. You don’t need Futuredial to get the modem functions however. Download this (http://www.anycall.com/i_world/i_data/usb_total.jsp) Samsung driver to enable DUN. SnapSync will also work transferring contact information. Q. How much onboard internal memory is there on the MM-A800?

There is 6MBs allocated for downloads and 47MBs for everything else (total 53MBs). Q. How long can I record video?

If the phone memory is free of other videos/pictures, up to an hour of full video can be stored to the phone. Videos over 512KBs however (over 30 seconds), cannot be sent. Video stored on the memory card can be as long as memory permits. Q. Does the phone charge via USB?

No

-->Performance

Q. How's the reception on the MM-A800?

Better than the VM-A680 before it, rivaling the Sanyo MM-5600 and Toshiba VM-4050. Great for an intenna. In a fringe area, if it is going in and out of service, as soon as it comes into service, it will go right up to 6 bars, then quickly back down to one or two, kind of weird, but doesn’t affect anything. Q. How is the earpiece on the MM-A800?

Usual Samsung clear and crisp. Some might want more bass (if you are used to a Sanyo earpiece), but I don’t have any issues with it at all. Very clear and no background noise. The best earpiece I’ve had on a Sprint phone, besting my A620 and A680 by far. Q. How does the MM-A800’s camera compared to other models?

Outstanding. CCD processor with Auto-focus result in the best photos in the Sprint lineup. 2MP photos come out a little blurry at times, but once resized down, they look spectacular. VERY bright flash. When the phone is closed you hold it like a traditional camera, and you can take the 2MP photos. With the slider opened, you are limited to VGA resolution. You can only send photos when the slider is up, and when it is down, you are in vertical review mode, with no clutter on the display; Great for showing off your photos. Q. How is the phone built?

Top notch. Samsung created a very sturdy handset with very expensive feeling materials. Cool to the touch alloys abound. On the entire camera housing, the camera grip, and in between every key. This one actually feels like a $499 handset. They keypad is also very evenly lit, with the bottom keys being slightly more aqua-blue than the top slider navigation keys. The sliding mechanism feels great, and *supposedly* can be adjusted through the 4 screws under the battery. User beware. Q. How is the browser?

The MM-A800 uses Teleca Obigo (AU) browser version Q03C1-2.17. Menu items come up animated, and you can change the color of the background, visited links, links, and plain text (17 color choices). Browser windows come up animated. You can also change the text size, and on the lowest setting, you can fit about 12 lines of text on sites such as CNN wap. The browser does not support frames or JavaScript The status bar looks reminiscent of Apple’s barber shop wheel, which is sort of interesting. The browser is blazing fastQ. Does the display hold up to scratches well?

Extremely well. The A800 won't need a PDA screen protector. The display is under a huge hunk of nearly scratch-resistant plastic. The phones display hasn't been scratched yet, even the slightest bit, in the last 3 weeks. I am very impressed with this.

Q. Where can I get 2.5mm headphones to use with the Samsung MM-A800?

Samsung has a nice pair on their website under the A800 section for $24.99 (10% off if you register your Samsung handset). Adapters should also work, but stay away from the Radio Shack one, as many have reported problems with their 5600 using it. Q. Can I close the slide in the web and retain my current Vision session? What else doesn’t / does get closed?

Simply put, no. Shutting the slide will revert you back to the main display in most circumstances. Closing the slide during an active Java session will pause the application. Closing it while uploading photos/videos, or using Multi-Media has no effect however. You can use the A800 with the slide closed in ALL functions though, including web, settings, tools, etc.Q. How many speed dial locations does the MM-A800 have?

The Samsung MM-A800 differs from Samsung’s before it by not numbering entries. Because of this, you are limited to 99 customizable speed dial entries. Q. There is no loop hole for a handstrap?

Disappointingly, no there is not. Samsung did not include a handstrap, and there is no loop hole for one on the phone. The preliminary pre-production models had a loophole right above the camera module, but it is curiously absent on this final production model. You might be able to go to your local camera store and buy a attachable (by glue) loophole, but even then, the A800 does not have a lot of real estate to spare. Q. What happens when you are in Memory Card playback mode and you receive a call?

The video/music will pause, and a window will popup with the associated picture ID, and you can continue to talk. After you complete or ignore the call, the playback will again start from where it was interruptedQ. My phone stalls at 99% when uploading photos!The MM-A800 will go from 1-99% fairly fast on all resolutions while you are uploading. 1MP photos usually stall at the 99% stage for about 30 seconds, 2MP at the most 1 minute. The upload times can and will be affected by signal strength however. My estimates are based on uploadings at a full signal. Q. What is the runtime environment of the MM-A800?

The Samsung MM-A800 utilizes the AU 2.0 core, running in MIDP 2.0 and utilizing the Qualcomm MSM 6100 chipset running on the DMSS6100/5.2 OS
