View Full Version : Lockline for old phones
As we all know lockline can not be added to old phones. However, say you currently have lockline and sold your phone and then you buy a used phone. Will lockline carry over to the used phone, or will say sorry, you got to take it off your account now?
Well they are not supposed to let you keep it on the new (used) phone but lot of Reps will just let it slide if you are polite.

a rep letting it slide and getting a claim approved later by lockline are two separate issues though...It might work, but technically I think it is against lockline's rules...they are not in the business of insuring old phones that could probably be replaced for less than the $50 deductible so that people can use them as an upgrade program...

buy the phone. call *2 to activate it, and add insurance. wait 3 weeks. make a claim. it works. you may not get a different phone (so buy an old phone you'd be happy using for awhile just in case), but they will approve it.

I am not talking about adding insurance. You already have insurance on your account to being with.

The Equipment Replacement thru Lockline is registered to the ESN of the phone, if you change phones & try to do a claim it will not go thru because its not the phone that is registered to the insurance.

Not true. I bought a phone used, swapped the esn to my main line, which had insurance, and followed my above advice. After several bum phones, they finally sent me a brand new 8200. The only way it doesn't work is if you try to add insurance to a phone that has been on your account for a really long time, as was the case with my 4900. But you should be cool if you already have insurance on the line.
They can, however, see how long that phone has been on your account, and your previous phones. So you should be ready to answer some questions like "you just got this phone a month ago, what happened to it?"

because it's cheaper...lol...you can add an old phone to lockline...the insurance is for whatever phone you have whether you just got it or not, but in some cases they have you sign an affadavit but i think it's if they kick you out

here's a question... i used both my replacements for this year on my current phone and want to purchase a used one... can lockline be activated on my new phone when i get it? or since i already used them, lockline can't get added?

Nope. Lockline gives you two replacements in a year period, which sucks because I thought it was renewed every year. After they kick you out for using up your two replacements I believe you have to wait a year again to add it to your plan. You go on probation because it helps them distinguish what is fraud and what not. It doesn't matter if you have a new phone because they are registered with your account not phone.

this blanket statement is WRONG in many cases... :bang:

Because they are cheap, and do not want to pay for a new phone. For some reason, some people think it is owed to them.

Here's a link to the FAQ about ERP. It covers most of what is being asked, especially about the length of time to deal w/ ERP.
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37628
And since you already have ERP on your acct, when you switch phones, it will carry over onto the phone you switched to.
ERP cannot be canx just because you swapped to an older phone. If that were the case, My Kyocera 6035 would not have been replaced using ERP, and I wouldn't have gotten the Samsung I500 as a replacement.
And yes, I did use my last ERP on my line back on Apr 12th, 05, so I cannot request or add (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!) ERP until Apr 13, 06!!!! So don't even try it.
