Ok, I lost my trusted Toshiba VM4050 about a week ago. I called Lockline and got a replacement. They sent me a Sanyo MM5600 that I received this afternoon. Now I'd been playing with this Sanyo for the better part of the day and coupled with the things I've read on SU, I believe this Sanyo has a lot of potential. It's the perfect new toy I was looking for (except for the LG 535 that I want).
Now just when things seemed to be okay, I'm passing a neighborhood church when I run into a friend. I'm showing off the new phone (that I'd already bought a case and usb for), with all of the dowloaded stuff I put on it this afternoon. we continue talking and I tell the story of the lost phone...

She says, "Oh you lost your phone last week? One of the kids at the church found a phone last week. We turned it on but it had a lock and a nasty picture of a girl on it!"

That's my phone!!!

Now I loved my toshiba, but I'm starting to like this Sanyo. I don't want to send the Sanyo back, but I want my 4050 (It's the almost perfect everyday phone). What should I do? I'll know by tomorrow whether or not it's my phone but I'm still stuck with a decision.

What does Lockline do in this situation? I mean you found your phone (that's great) but got a new one too? That's like getting a free phone! A 5600 too! Hmm..I wonder if people do this all time...

No, i wanna keep the 5600 unless i can get an LG 535. I may have to send it (5600)back if I do get my phone back. Well, at least that's the right thing to do.

you don't have to return the 5600 i believe....you just send the 4500 back to them or you can trash it and enjoy your new expensive gift

Yeah, I know I could keep it but it would be worthless unless I need a new phone.

I heard that the 5600 has the #777 disabled. What's up with that??? #777 disabled??? They should go and disable the phone completely if that's the case!!!

You know, technically you are not supposed to use your phone is a modem.

If you don't need the multimedia or readylink, stick with the 4050 man! Bigger better screen and UI, txt messaging, addy book, and earpiece! =)

Ya, but it's a good backup.

I saw a flyer about using your phone as a modem, but you have to sign up for a data plan (same for connection cards) I wonder if you call and activate a data plan for a month would that unlock the 5600 ??

Well, I don't need the readylink because I use Nextel for that, but I do like the MultiMedia. Like I said, it's a new toy. Anyway, I went by the church today and it seems they can't find the phone. They think one of the kids from the church had taken it home. I'm gonna keep playing with this Sanyo until I drop that $200 for the LG. I do miss my 4050, but now I know what to expect from this Sanyo.

I like the 4050 too, but I'll take a 5600 over it anyday...i'm actually getting one this week...

It's up to you if you find your beloved toshiba...keep it and send the 5600 back or send the toshiba to lockline(if found) and sell your 5600 on ebay...helps pay for the 535

Update: Didn't find the 4050, but i started liking the sanyo alot. Problem was, the sanyo had a defective speaker. i went through a bunch of running around to get it fixed then decided to call lockline. edit: the sanyo came by itself, nothing included. i went out and bought $40 stereo headphones and a $50 sd card. so i call lockline and they're sending another replacement. i come back from my little vegas vacation to find lockline has sent me a brand new sanyo 5600, in the box with everything included. i was shocked and very happy to receive a new phone. i still miss my toshiba for the simple yet pleasing features that i enjoyed, but i'm pretty satisfied with my NEW Sanyo 5600.

Ok, People! Can we please stop assessing the morality of the situation. I have not found the phone, if I did I'd already acknowledged that I would call Lockline and send the found phone to them. I will not send the "new" phone back, because I have already invested in it.
I began this thread (in the wrong forum might I add; I apologize!) because I lost a very good phone and Lockline sent a replacement that I did not expect to receive, but began to like after some time. There was never any question of something underhanded going on. There was a possibility that I would be able to recover the lost phone, but not to date.
In the event that I decide to commit fraud against the company that I pay my little insurance money too, rest assured that I will not be discussing it here on an open forum. I can do that with my Credit Card fraud/Risk Analyst Girlfriend.
I was just asking the opinions of fellow SU'ers about the choice of two phones and relaying my story. I quoted two people above, but this isn't a pot shot at them. I am clarifying my intial post so as not to make this a thread about what's the right thing to do, how to beat the system or the best way to get something free.
I thank you for your time,
Peacer37
