well when i had my 7400 i'd receive text messages and get charged for them! see SMS is awesome but what if you don't want to receive them? you can't stop it. someone once told me to not open the message but when i got my bill and i was still charged! very good question. hopefully someone can us BOTH out.

you don't necessarily need to have vision. you will be charged $.10 a message you receive and another $.10 to send (if your phone is sms capable). there are separate txt messaging plans. unlimited txt messaging is $10/month. if you have a vision plan, unlimited txt messaging is $5/month.
as for disabling the ability to receive txts... i'm honestly not really sure. :/ sorry. i'll have to check into it when i go back to work tomorrow.

ok. txting is .10 in, .10 out. you can block specific people from sending you text messages on www.sprintpcs.com. or you can call *2 and tell them you want to stop all text messages in and out. they will create a ticket but the way it works is that you still get charged for incoming, you just dont see it, and it goes back to normal if you make any plan changes.
you dont need vision to do text messaging, its just the vision pack gives you 100 free (in/out) and then unl. is $5 extra. otherwise, 100texts for $5 and unl. for $10.

i don't think it's fair that sprint charges you for a message received. what if one day some1 just decides to send you a bunch of messages just for the heck of it because they know you'll have to pay a bunch of money

I think you can block all messages. If the message is blocked, I don't think you get charged. I think at least, not totally sure.

i emailed customer service about this the other day ... if you don't have vision and are receiving from another sprint pcs phone ... you will not get charged. you will, however, get charged for sending sms. at least ... that's what's in my email

really? thanks for the info. i do think its unfair if your charged for messages when you have no intention of getting them. thanks for the help!

I don't have grandfathered vision and have the 100 limit. But, I only get deducted from my 100 allowance if I:
a. reply/send a text msg
b. the incoming text msg is from a non-sprintPCS user
All my incoming msgs from a sprintPCS user do not take away from my 100 allowance.

Ahhh that explains why I noticed that my 100 allowance only gets deducted when I send and not when I receive Text. Cos all my in coming text messages were from Sprint customers!!!
Does this mean that for people who paid the extra $5 for unlimited Text messaging, it will be like what Verizon is trying to promote right now ie unlimited Text messaging to "IN" customers. Unlimited IN or OUt Text to PCS cutomers.

close, except its free incoming from sprint period, no package needed. but you still get charged to send.
