Picture mail from Sprint to Verizon... revisited.

I have read all the previous posts regarding this subject and have not been able to find a working method for sending a picture from Sprint to Verizon. Has anyone been able to get this to work (other than with a PDA phone and an attachment)? Sorry if this has been discussed to death. I would love to get this to work.

i beieve they're finally making progress in making native support for this. i know sprint is for the most part working with t-mobile already, you can send to just thier phone #. from what i've been hearing all the carriers are working on cross-carrier support; and in the upcoming weeks we could be seeing these other carriers working too. of course none of this has been "offically" announced yet. for the time being you can use pixtopix.com. they weren't working for a few weeks, but they have fixed the problem and seem to be working now, as long as the recipient is singed up too.

Well one of the reasons why verizon is dragging there feet is they just introduced IN pics and text, and of course IN meaning within there network, so if the allow pics inter carrier it would kind of ruin the IN thing with pics.

how would it ruin IN if you had to pay for intercarrier pics? does intercarrier SMS ruin IN? i doubt it.....

I have tried using PixtoPix but the Verizon person doesn't get anything on his phone. I'm realizing now it could be that he doesn't know how to work it. He just got the phone and may not even be signed up for their picture plan (although I don't think he needs to be). I'm going to try to get my hands on his phone so I can experiment with it directly.

IMO, they're promoting IN so you join Verizon to take benefit of unlimited IN stuff; i doubt that this IN stuff is completely aimed towards current customers. it makes no sense to not attempt to allow intercarrier pics (for a price per pic or for a monthly price package) and cut off a revenue stream.

Point taken, but they are trying to draw customers to join there network or little family and benefit from the whole IN thing, problem is not everyone has IN or is going to get IN. So if you have 10 freinds with verizon, 10 friends with sprint, and 10 friends with Tmobile and you would like to send pics to all of them which company are you gonna go with, the one who reconizes other companies or the one who wants to keep everything withIN.
My real point is it is bad timing to promote IN pics when interopertiability is at the door step.
As far as charging for interopertiable pics is maybe good for them but bad for the customer.
Maybe sprint knew interopertiablity was around the corner and didn't limit pics to within there network, and never wasted money promoting it. Sprint wins this one, for a change.

I know this won't help at all with people receiving the actual picture, but I'm posting it in hopes that someone can possibly figure out something with regards to an image coming up on a Verizon phone.

I've successfully sent pictures to a friend who has Verizon as his carrier directly to his phone. The problem is that it's not really the picture, but the link to the picture. Just the same way PictureMail works with other Sprint customers. The problem is that his LG will not allow him to go to the link. It just shows where the image is and that's all. I don't know how other phones on Verizon work because I've never had them as my service provider. If someone could try some other phone, this may just work.

For him to receive the picture, I did a trial/error thing. Took about ten messages, but it finally went through.

To send an image, or better yet it's link, you must use phone number, but not as you would think. I noticed in the sent picture's folder that if I just sent it to his phone number directly from my phone book, Sprint would tag @pm.sprint.com to his number. This is clearly one of the reasons many Verizon customers don't get images when sent from a Sprint phone. To try this out, the successful way, input the Verizon's customer's number in the following way:

xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzwpix.com

Yes, include the hyphen. That's the key. Now if you can find a way for the other person, who has Verizon, to see the picture, please tell me. The Sprint to Verizon picture sharing part of my brain is at nil from trying and trying and trying.

Thanks for the info. I'm now thinking my Dad (funny, my Dad is also the one w/ Verizon) is having some sort of Verizon issue w/ his phone. I'm going to have him try sending a picture to another Verizon user and if that doesn't work, he'll have to call Verizon to figure it out.

I know its slightly off topic...but i was able to send and receive pix from someone with tmobile just with MDN...my friend has tmobile and she was able to see the picture directly on her phone, no link or URL, and I received a pix from someone else on tmobile as a standard picture share

It should work. I did a little test, not with a cellphone but with e-mail. I sent a picture as an attachment from my e-mail address to my PM add, phonenumber@pm.sprint.com and I got a message on my cell phone almost instantly telling me that I had new Picture Mail, when I checked it the picture came in normally like when another Sprint user sends it to me and the image was resized and compressed to a smaller size which worked better than me physically uploading the pictures from my computer to PM. I noticed when I do that, the size of the picture in MB or KB stays the same as the original so I had a 1.3MB picture that I uploaded and when I tried downloading it to my phone it wouldn't let me because I needed more memory on my phone but when I send it as an attachment via e-mail it works without a problem.

In conlcusion I believe that when a cell phone user sends an MMS, MMS usually send the pictures as an attachment, because before the intercarrier ability with T-Mobile I had a T-Mo user send me a pic and it came as an attachment that I couldn't download so I had to forward it to my e-mail. If I can send myself an e-mail with an attached picture and have it show up in my PM inbox without a problem I think that any carrier that has MMS can send pictures to a Sprint user as long as they use the number@pm.sprint.com address instead of just using the phone number. The only carriers that I know of that can use just the phone number and get the message across to work fine is Sprint, Qwest, Bell Mobility, T-Mobile and I believe Telus. These carriers can also receive pictures from Sprint without a problem except for some reason when T-Mobile sends a pic to a Sprint user it can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes before it arrives in your PM inbox but it works. I heard people were able to get it to work with Cingular but not 100% sure.

This means that MMS should work atleast as a one-way solution with all carriers meaning all carriers should be able to send pictures to Sprint but not all can receive them as a regular MMS, they will receive a link to the picture which in turn might not be downloadable to the phone but this is atleast a step half way in. I havent tried sending or receiving video but will try soon and get back to you. Anyone with feeback please let me know.

Okay, Vision is back up now. I guess I had the same result as you. It shows up in my picture mail inbox on the phone with a link to the picture.

Yes , this helps a lot. It seems the newer phones strip off anything after a number on an email address when sending a picture (so 1234565000@pixtopix.com becomes just 1234565000 and we know this doesn't work... yet). The same thing happens when a Verizon phone (at least the Moto v710) sends a picture to 1234565000@pm.sprint.com. Once I created myname@pm.sprint.com and had the Verizon person send to that address, it worked perfectly. Also, as you know, alias@pixtopix.com solves the number problem when sending from Sprint to Verizon.

She would have to go to pixtopix.com to get one but if you go to SPI you will see that Sprint has been wokring on intercarrier MMS and has been testing it for the past month and should finish testing sometime this month. It says that it is working with Verizon so soon she may not need a pixtopix account. Try sending one now and see if it works.

I just sent a pic to a verizon person in Georgia they said they didn't get it. That same person said they sent me a pic and I didn't get it. However when I sent a pic to my uncle's phone on saturday he got it and vice versa so I don't know why someone in Georgia with Verizon can't get it and someone here in NYC can
