Ok, I had my Toshiba 4050 almost a year before the 7 and 8 keys took a mind of their own and started working and not working at random. The camera was getting fuzzy and the lcd was cracked so I decided to finally go ahead and replace it.

I was sent a Samsung A700, which in my opinion is junk. No speakerphone, QVGA, flashlight, etc. that the 4050 had. I called and told them this and was told I would be sent out a Sanyo 5600 in 7-10 business days.

I've been reading on here that the 5600 has no internet hookup capabilities, something that I don't use very often, but when travelling rely heavily on. Data capability is not something Lockline sees as a feature you have to have, thus I am stuck with this 5600. Don't get me wrong, I think the 5600 is a great phone, but the data feature is huge.

My question is, when I do recieve this 5600, can I sell this on Ebay and buy myself something new? I know it's possible but I didn't know if someone bought it and activated it whether or not the ESN would be an issue. As soon as I sold it I would do an ESN swap with a new one I bought for myself off Ebay so once they recieved it the ESN would be clear. Would this work? Thanks for the help.

Yes, as long as your phone isn't activated and not marked as stolen you can sell it without a problem.

The 5600 is vision capable. If you wanna hook it up to a pc for web, no luck. FCC now make that illegal and even if you have the vision plan, your charged usage. And you won't be credited. And no, it's not just for sprint customers. No data usage for anyone. You want a data plan, buy a wireless air card.

tethering illegal? nope. against sprint TOS, yes. the treo 650 is allowed to tether no matter what vision plan you have. that must mean something.

wait until you need it...the majourity of people dont use it as an ISP replacement, they use it for when theres no other way to get internet. also think about it.....would YOU pay $80/month for occasional usage? seriously people, think before you argue or criticise.

the abusers did mess it up for everyone in the beginning. but face it...there will always be selfish people who have no consideration for others and go ahead and keep abusing the system. like with lockline the deductible used to be $35 and because people were using it as an upgrade program they upped it to $50.

There are data plans to be attached to voice plans, to allow for handsets as modems.....they're called handset as modem plans. Sprint offers just the plans, not support for any cables or software needed.

so these "handset as modem" plans...are they similarly priced to the aircard plans as in do they suck just as bad as they do? because 300mb is rubbish for $80/month, even if you dont have to buy an aircard.

I locklined my 4050 and they were going to send me an a700 I told them it didn't have a speakerphone, so they sent out a brand new 4050 that won't power on. I'm waiting to find out what phone is going to be sent out. I really want the 5600 but for some reason they don't want to send it!

lockdawg: I don't use my tethering a lot... only when I cannot get internet access in any other way... A good example: On the freeway (as a passenger of course :p ) on a long trip... In the airport (only if there isn't any free wi-fi available)... Or maybe in a hotel

And even then, my data usage is very low - I only pop on to either check my e-mail or chat on IM. The life data on my phone (which is 9 months old) is 50mb... That's tethering and me browsing on the phone... That's only ~6mb/month which is so miniscule in terms of broadband... heck I can download that much in six seconds.

It's still wrong b/c you dont have to purchase a aircard...

(I sometime download movies on my computer but thats only when i dont have money to rent one or see it in the movie theatre.)

Its all the same... They screw it up for everyone also because the aircards are so expensive and so are the plans. They wouldn't be if people had to buy them.

I think its also being rather hypocritical when you admit that you're breaking copyright law by downloading movies...

That's a pretty tall excuse to "only do it when you don't have the money or don't see it in the movie theatre."

Personally I have to think that stealing movies is much worse as I'm not stealing bandwidth.

I could use just as much bandwidth by browsing the web on my phone (Which is completely within the Terms of Service...) as much as I want... 24x7 perhaps. That would certainly generate more bandwidth usage than I do now. Instead, I choose to use that bandwidth on a much larger screen that is significantly eaiser to read.

I was using the downloading movies as a example. I connect to the web with People PC, I dont hook my 7400 up so I can check my email. I pay the 14.99 a month for dial up. So no i dont actually download movies because it would take me 4 days with dial up.

And you use your phone as a modem so you dont have to pay for the aircard, and so you dont have to pay for the plan on the aircard. Which makes it more expensive for normal people who want these air cards because they need it for buisness purposes. You can say its (fine) all you want but you know that its not.

Stealing is stealing...

the aircards have always cost as much as they do now, and so have the prices for bandwidth so i call bs. the reason why its expensive is because the typical business has more money to spend than the average consumer. so realy in a way they subsidise us :)
