My two year contract is up in November. I think I am eligible for a new phone but don't know if I should wait until the merger. Currently have the A620. I use the phone for email on the road. Sprint service at my home is marginal, but Nextel has put up a new cell tower close to me and my son gets excellent service.

Now the problem. We go overseas about every 6 months. I have a Worls Phone I purchased several months ago off Ebay which we will use in Italy in June.

Would like to get a pda phone that would work overseas after the Nextel merger. What are my options. I HATE typing using a regular phone keyboard. Maybe you kids think this is easy, but I don't have the patience for it. Also what are my options for service plans.

Would it be better to wait until after the merger?

I'd say go for the 650. It fits all your requirements, plus has a thumbboard for easier typing

Is my understanding this is a GSM phone that works only on GSM networks? Will it work with Sprint as well?

are you planning on staying with nextel or switching over?

Cannot switch until November. By that time the merger may be complete. Would like to be able to get phone service in Europe. I say in touch with customers by email when I am on vacation.

If the merger is not complete by then am considering a switch, but then have to worry about getting a phone that works on both systems.

The Sprint system I am on now is with an affliate and they haven't upgraded anything in the last two years I can see.

I was on an ATT affliate before Sprint and they were horrible, even though the recption was better at my place.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

No Sprint or Nextel phone will work outside the US. Both the CDMA and IDEN networks are only available in the US.

I doubt that you will see many phones that will work on both networks for some time. ( what would that have to be- a dual band Quad mode??)

I'm not 100 percent positive so if someone could either confirm my statements or correct them-please feel free.

Good post dragonman. Exactly coorect. The 650 is an awesome pda phone, i have to admit it. The volume seems a little low though

LOL, it seems u have to hit the button under the volume rocker to confirm settings, which is why it was so low. easy fix
