What are Samsung A500 getting replaced for nowadays? Also, it has a busted screen but still works, if I bring it into the Sprint store, if they don't have any A500's for 10 bucks they'll just give me a new phone right? Maybe a 660 or since it has an external screen a 2300 or 125?

i think they usually try to stay in the same model family, so i would expect a 660.

http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/PhonesAccessories/PhoneDetails.jsp?navLocator=%7Cshop%7CphonesAccess ories%7CvisionPhones%7C&selectSkuId=samsungvi660

Pros:
Adds MO-SMS, for faster, easier text messaging.
Same charger as A500.
You A500 case or holster may work.
Cons:
No external caller ID display.
Screen isn't as sharp.
No support for external camera.

Now, if you've been taking photos with your A500, you might argue, not incorrectly, that you have a picture phone, and would lose major features in going to the A660. You might also argue that you're losing the external caller id display.

The LG 125 is a fair exchange without a camera. If you get them to concide the camera phone point, any camera phone they offer you would be a pretty decent trade - the A500 camera was terrible.

ohhh, wow I feel REALLY dumb, I always saw it being reffered to as the VI660 and I never out two and two together. Does the A500 have a built in camera or a camera attachment?

It's a camera attachment. At Vision launch, there were three handsets, two of which supported picturemail. The Samsung A500 and N400 each were capable of sending photos, but required a separate camera. Originally offered at $99, this time last year stores were giving them away to owners of compatible handsets. Best Buy blew them out at $4.99 during the holiday '03 season. Sprint is selling them for $49.99 on their website. (http://www.sprintpcsaccessories.com/direct/sp/itemdetl.jsp?prod=1137) Good luck finding one in a Sprint Store.

It connected to the phones with a ponderous and fidgety connector that often took quite a bit of work to actually transfer a photo... good times.

Hooo I was working for sprint at that time and had the camera necklace and my a500 walking around the store demo girl...people were so amazed ...we sold the camera out in 2 days.....Remember the day we found out how to send our own content to the phones here on SU....Those were the good old days....

LOL, I remember those things. I kind-of miss my a500 now. It was so simplistic, although terribly overpriced at $300. Still, it was cool to have the newest and greatest phone out at the time.

When those cameras hit $5 at BBY, we sold out in like.. 1-2 days. Every single person that came in with an a500 or n400 bought a camera. Funny thing is we NEVER sold those at $49.99. Probably less than 1 a month. LOL.

Hell, I remember the days of Qualcomm and the wireless web. Even before vision. Crap, my first phone was in a bag. Where is my Geritol? . :joy:

Thanks. Ugh N400. This is for my AAP. Do they have those still in stores...A5's and N4's? The backlight on the screen is broken, and it roams for no reason. So with that, they would give what they have in stock or do they place orders?

The tricky thing about the A500 and N400 is that most warranties don't cover the cell phone accessories. If you look at these handsets as picture capable phones, it makes sense to get another picture capable phone. The problem is that they aren't strictly camera phones, and the camera is an accessory, so it's not covered. Personally, I hope you get another A500.
