Same idea as the last time, this time, these should be pictures solely OF the phone IN ACTION. (Not photos taken by the phone, which can be found in a separate forum.)
How's the interface? Web browser? Keep text to a minimum, but a good description of what we're seeing is always appreciated. Things to consider:
-Media player
-Web browser
-Camera interface
-Slide closed / open interface
-Call lists, contacts, etc.
-Menu styles
-SMS, etc.
Thanks ahead to all who do partake and help inform those of us who can't make it to a Sprint store!

The standby display is very customizable. You have 8 places which you can put the anolog clocks (large or small), Digital clocks (large or small), transparent calender (large or small), or transparent to do/schedule listings.

Yeah, they're mind :p
I was in a rush to take the photos as the battery on the camera was about dead. The one's that are good looking are that way because of the "pre-focus" state the camera goes through. I'll get some new batteries ;)

I don't care for the box thing over the caller id picture on the 535 but it's not that bad. Sorry about the red light on the picture it's from my digital camera. Can someone post a picture of the caller id on the 800. Hopefully it's not shrunk.

thanks. Let see in the last few months I've had (3) 650's, 6600, (2) 535's and a 5600. I might have forgot one or two. I tried the pda's but just didn't like the size. I couldn't make up my mind between the 5600 and the 535. As of a few days ago I returned my 535 and decided to go with the 5600 becasue it's a little better using the web. The day after I returned my 535 my 5600 started creaking. It drove me nuts so I was able to return it and go back to a 535. I think LG made a big step forward with the 535. It's a great phone and I'm really looking forward for there next phone which I think will have EV-DO. If the 800 had a speakerphone or bluetooth I probally would've bought it. Also EV-DO phones should be coming out soon so didn't want to spend to much now when I'll be getting another phone in 3-5 months.

A few things here.
Price: the 535 is cheaper.
Camera: the a800 wins here.
Menu: from the pics I have seen of the 535, I still say Samsung. Again, their new UI has to be seen in person to understand how "fluid" it is.
Texting: a800 with speak-to-text.
Volume: probably a tie.
Quality: Never actually played with the 535, but the a800 feels sturdy as a brick.
I'm really impressed with the a800. Much more so than I thought I would be. I have been very critical of Samsung before, but the a800 is a definate winner in my book. Buy it from BBY for $300 (new line price) here within a week or two.

I'll add my two cents on something else: While the A800 user interface is very fancy and colorful, I still prefer the 535's over it. The 535 seems more grown-up and mature, you know? Like that perfect mix between the 5600 and A8. I also prefer the 535's fonts. Just my opinion, though.

You can change it to another default one, like the cute puppy dog one ;).
CoreyTheGent
05-13-2005, 05:20 PM
Yes, I know it can be changed. I was simply countering a point, which I could do easily to any A800 owner trying to defend their phone. The biz-card scanner is a feature, not really apart of the "user interface" in my opinion. I was speaking of the colors, icons, the overall look and feel of the phone when using it. I'm just the type of person who prefers something more like the 535 and 5600, while someone such as tuolumne prefers moving icons and other novelties (in which the A800 will suit him just fine). That's all I was saying.
As for the rest of the phone, it seems like a great handset and in no way does my own personal opinion take away from that. There's more than one baseball team.

With just price being your primary factor I'd say 535. The A800 does have plenty over it, but 2 questions you have to ask yourself are: 1) Is it worth the $125 over it for you? and 2) Do you need those added features?

I agree. As of a few days ago I couldn't make up my mind between the 535 and the 5600. I chose the 5600 becasue it was great browsing the web. I returned the 535 and the day after my 5600 got the creaking hidge. I couldn't stand it so I returned it. I miss the web on the 5600 but don't miss the creak and the weird desing. I was going to get the 800 but decide to get a 535 again because I probally won't keep either phone for more than 3-5 months as soon as a EV-DO phone is available. Also I think Samsung/Sprint went a little over board on the price of the 800. I really can care less about fancy menues. By looking at the home page pictures on the 800 and the 535 it looks like the 535 shows 2 more lines. I guess Samsung messed up on the size of the fonts which doesn't surprise me. I know with the 5600 you could see the entire home page.

I disagree. The rep at the Sprint Store I was at today (activating A680 on other line) had the 535. I held both phones in my hand, and I can confidently say that the Samusng is better built. The plastics on the 535 feel a little cheap, especially on the back. The external antenna was way out of place on a slider phone. The slider on the LG also seemed a little less fluid than the Samsung, which I didn't like. Overall, the Samsung is designed and built better. If you don't beleive me, hold both in your hand. Also, while I didn't get into the db menu on the 535, the signal meter was alternating between 2-3 bars while the A800 had a full 5 with no fluctuation.
The A800 is well worth $120 over the 535 in my opinion
2MP CCD camera
STT
QVGA screen
32MB TF card
USB cable ($20 alone)
User interface is great
You wouldn't beleive how many people were wowed by the A800's pictue taking abilities, mainly being able to hold it sideways with the slide shut and take photos like a real camera.

At my store we have sold 2 535's (initial shipment) 2 have been returned. One was a guy who said the bat life was poor, the other was returned from a cust who couldn't get her MP3's to play... it was user error. Myself and the staff at my store all think the phone is pretty cool though.

The plastics still aren't up to the A800's. Furthermore, it is not very well desinged (curve in the battery, huge hinge, antenna is the same from the 2300).

I think the attena on the 535 is fine where it is. Where else could they have put it. I'm right handed and I'm glad it's on the left side of the phone because if it was on the right my finger would probally be touching it. As far as the bars flucuating the 7400 and I think the 5600 does it. It doesn't mean anything. Maybe the 800 is like how the old sanyos were how they gave a false reading. Both builds are good so who cares which one is the best. Not everone cares about fancey menues. Yes the 800 has a QVGA which is better than what the 535 has but Samsung messed up with the font size so I'm pretty sure your seeing less or the same amount text on the web as the 535. The pictures do look good on the 800 but it won't be replacing my digital camera. As goes for people being wowed by the picture taking abilites I'm sure there wowed after they find out how much it cost. :)

While I'm thinking of changing my 5600 to the A800, I don't understand was the big deal of a couple of features on the phone.
1- Speak To Text - Most people text when its not ideal to talk on the phone (class, movies, restaurant, etc). If you want to speak to text just call the person. The only place It may be ideal is when driving (and I think its too much of a risk)
2 - Business Card - If you want to remember the number and not manually add it at the moment, just take any phone wit a camera, snap a picture with Macro on it n retrieve the picture later.
3- While I must agree that the UI in the phone is great, the phone either will be put on your cheek or your pocket.

That's why I said it matters more to the poster that asked the question. Those features are good for $120, but if they're worth $120 for your needs is a different question. You obviously thought different which is why you bought your phone... I thought different which is why I bought mine.
I just found out that that 535 will nearly fullscreen the video less the controls the video on the a800 has no expansion :/
I do not think it willl be able to play full screen on the A800 as it does not do it on the 5600 either....i would think it has to do with the screen resolution of the 5600 and A800 which wont allow it to be full screen....

When I hit the "call" button on my d500, it brings up the call records menu, but i can hit the left and right keys to scroll horizontaly between "all calls" "dialed calls" "received calls" and "missed calls" does the a800 do the same thing? I find this VERY useful.
edit: oh yeah, what animated wallpapers does it come with?
My PM-325 does almost the same (it just shows all of those types on one list, with different icons) when I press talk (slide up and down). I also find it very useful; I would NOT want another phone without that.
So, does the A800/535 do that?

Yes, the A800 has a big compiled list, as well as the 535.

so when u put videos on ur a800 viz mem card you have to view it at he 176x144? At least the 56oo offers a expand mode. It isnt great but it isnt terrible either. jus looks odd as hell starin at a lil screen on a bigger screen. Like tryin to watch a movie on the lil picture and picture on big screen tv. Howver A8/535 users are able to rewind :( Maybe theyll issue a update that let us rw...it isnt needed cuz im fine w/o it but id take it if i could get it.

The plastics still aren't up to the A800's. Furthermore, it is not very well desinged (curve in the battery, huge hinge, antenna is the same from the 2300).
Looks like your 800 isan't perfect. I see at hofo you said your considering getting another because when you slide it, it feels like it's rubbing against plastic when you push it up. It's to bad Samsung still hasn't fixed the noise cancellation issue.

Now, Samsung is the only company wiling to take the first chance with the Voice Signal Software. Samsung was the first to impliment the speaker-independent voice automation solution and are the first with Speech-to-Text and Text-To-Speech. They deserve some credit for that.

Personally I think they did copy it, they look very similar. May be wrong just my opinion. A 2 MP camera will take a photo quality 4 X 6 inch print but when they come up with a 4 MP camera phone that will print a photo quality 8 X 10 inch photo then I too will buy a camera for a phone.

Like I said earlier I don't care about the A800 or the LG MM-535. The only choice I had was the 5600 and the MM A-700. I only like flip phones. My child likes the slider type phones and he says they are both pretty close in specs. I just wish my 5600 had 20 MB for ringers like the 535. The difference to me seems which do you want a camera or speaker phone with not as good camera because that is the major difference between these phones. Plus like you said the LG probably doesn't have the business card scanner which I know could be a deciding factor for many people.

He actually had an A800 in his hands yesterday and was getting ready to purchase it. It is a very nice looking phone if you like that type of phone. They didn't have the LG-535 which of course he liked that but Best Buy didn't have that either, I guess they were sold out of those. But either the A800 or LG 535 I don't think you could go wrong with either one of them. I must admit the camera looked pretty sharp in the A800. It's going to be tough to hold out when Samsung comes out with that high end flip phone. Hopefully it will not be for a while because I don't want to start buying phones like the rest of you phone people.

In your mind that could be the case along with the ton of people who also got the A800. I bet a lot of these LG MM-535 folks got that phone because of the speaker phone and really didn't care if they got less of a camera. The screen is probably a little better but that was not something they all wanted either. I asked Sel1965 about his A800 and he also had the 535 and 5600. He said the deciding factor for him if I remember was the screen and better camera because that is what he wanted. He didn't say the LG was a piece of crap but was very nice. You may think your phone is better, that's fine but the LG 535 people like their phones just as much as you do. There is a web site called Phonescoop.com and I am sure you are familiar with it. The LG was rated higher by the users than the A800. I can vouch for wanting the LG simply because although it wasn't the best camera on a phone it was a huge improvement over what I was coming from. The question to me wasn't whether or not the added features of the A800 were worth the price difference but more of if I really cared.... to that the answer is no. The LG had all I wanted and the A800 had nothing I wanted over the LG so that's what I got and I'm happy with my decision.

Do you realize that including an internal antenna is a lot more complicated, internally, than to just stick a huge extendable one on? The fact that Samsung will be including one on every handset they sell is a feat in itself. Also, you obviously haven't used the A800 if you think extending a huge antenna gets you better reception...

It worries me a little that the intenna can't be moved away from the head... and is easier to cover with your hand. Even if cell phones are perfectly harmless, I'd assume most people want to keep as much radiation as possible outside of their skulls... which seems like it would be harder to do when you can't even extend it.
