seeing the difference between the 5600 and the a800 makes me want the camera on the a800... but the phone and camera quickness of the 5600...
cruel world, cruel world.
do these companies not hire testers/idea makers to make sure these phones work properly?
The camera is not slow at all on the A800. I dont know what people are talking about....with the phone closed you hold the camera button down. It then says hit ok for camera. Thats it....you are ready to shoot.....
ScrapMaker
05-19-2005, 08:59 AM
Calculate how long it takes from the second you touch the camera, to the time that the highest-quality picture is taken from the camera... Including the time it takes to open the shutter.
I've never gotten it below 6 seconds...
anything more than 3 seconds is rediculous if you ask me.
it takes about 1.5 seconds for me to be FINISHED taking a picture on my 5500... if it's closed...
if it's open, its as fast as I can hit the camera key 3 times... (allowing about .125 seconds for the whitebalance to correct itself.)
And as I said before, I'd love the *functionality* of the 5600, with the actual camera CCD setup from the a800...
and it's definitely not a bad phone, just that it has it's first wave of defects and hopefully they will be delt with in a timely manner.
ScrapMaker
05-19-2005, 09:00 AM
actually the most annoying part is that it takes a good 2 seconds for the thing to focus... and if you move the camera at all during that time, it gets blurry, (which is why the original pics were so blurry on this site)
macaddiict
05-19-2005, 10:48 AM
Scrap, I don't know of any true auto focus that is instant. The reason your 5500 (and my A600, for that matter) can take quicker pictures is because the camera lens is effectively the same setup as one of those cheap disposable 35mm cameras. They also have "auto-focus" but in reality they are set to infinity focus and simply do not change, so all our phones have to do is figure out the white balance and snap the photo.
If I understand correctly, the A800 has an actual adjusting auto-focus lens, like a digital camera. My Nikon digital camera takes 2-3 seconds to focus when you hold the shutter down (more in low light), and if you hurry it the picture comes out horribly blurry. There are faster focusing lenses out there, but most of them are bulky, loud, and eat batteries... not things you want in a cell phone.
Also remember that higher resolution pictures are much larger and require more time to capture to memory. Can't have it all!
ScrapMaker
05-19-2005, 01:29 PM
Oh yes I understand all of this... but what I hate is how long it takes just to get into camera mode!
and my digicam takes about .5 seconds to focus :)

I thought aiming a camera directly at any intense direct light source (like the sun or a lamp) has the potential to seriously damage the lens.
ScrapMaker

lol, no light could damage the lens.
however, the sensor could theoretically be damaged, depending on how the optics are set up..

I thought this was interesting.... (about) the same shot taken with my 3MP Sony digital camera (resized) and with the LG (original).
It's not really a fair comparison since #1 they're two completely different types of cameras, and #2 the Sony picture was taken at the full resolution then resized down. Nevertheless, I was looking mainly at how the colors came out.

***... what is that thing?? it sure as hell doesn't look like it's on the power line, nor is it a bird in the distance...
not a plane either.
send it to your local newspaper, so they can blow it up 50X it's original size and make it a front-page story.

Yea I think it's a blimp. At first I thought it was a blimp but then I thought it was something on the power line. I wasn't paying to much attention since I was driving and taking a picture. The Memorial Tournament was last weekend and I saw blimp fly over my house.
