To whom it may concern
I purchase a PDA phone nearly a year ago, I suppose last June. It cost me 449+TX from sprint, the phone did work for a while, but later when I tried to download my information from the phone to my PC or PC to the phone the phone would suddenly go in to halt. Freezing the screen showing “fetal exception” and would not reset instead I would have to detach the battery and reattach to turn it back on. Some time it will upload or download the information in to my phone but some time it would not. Several months passed I never went to sprint because I do not have the luxury to spend 3 hour to solve the problem but eventually I did get my self to the sprint store when the phone would not function. The screen will not come up, latterly nothing on the screen and that was back in January. They got me a new phone “refurbish” I thought my entire problem solved. I thought it was the phone that was not working right and that is why the reason it is not working right when intend to interface with the computer. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I came home I tried it did not work, but I did not go back to them because again I do not have time.
After a month or so, the phone mysteriously went bad again. So far, I can recall it would not allow me to make calls or something, which forced me to go get it changed. As far as I can recall it was on Saturday or Friday. They gave me a new phone “refurbish” I came home I did not check if everything is right or wrong while in the store. What happen I fiend out the PDA pad is not working I went back to the store got me another one this time I made sure everything worked. What I find while in the store this time? I end up changing the phone three or four more times in same day. I did not even get out of the store. The phone would not work will have different set of problem. Eventually they gave me brand new phone that day. I tried to make it work with my computer but it would not work instead it went to a freezing mood ask to restart. So as I did touch the screen for it to reset, it turned off and after a 2 second it came to its first screen saying “ palm powered” this is how far the screen would go and started to blink constantly keeping the “ palm powered” screen in static. Next day I talked to a person who works at a sprint store and he is the manager. I showed him the problem he asked me to stop by at his store when I am done with my work. When I went to his store, I handed him the phone the phone started to work. However, he was generous enough and replaced the phone again this time it is another brand new phone. I concluded that, may be the phone is perfectly fine and assumed that it is probably my computer or I needed to update my software. I looked every single website to update but did not fiend anything that fits or fix my complication. Since I could not fiend, the software or anything to stop the “fetal exception” or “fail to initialize” I did not dare to synchronize the phone with my PC. One month passed, one day I was killing my unproductive time playing the “atom” game after a while it just quit on me. Tried to turn it off but failed to do so, detach the battery and reattached it. First time it showed “fail to initialized” this time power button worked so I turned off and turn it back on again. Guess what happed? The icon “palm power” came on and the back light of the numeric key pad started to flash like crazy. I went to the sprint store and this the seventh time I am there.
As usual one hour to check if they could fix it or not. I went back after one hour they said they are unable to fix the problem, they will give me one more phone “refurbished” I felt like crying one month of information, all my number that I did not download in my pc is gone, and I will have to start from scratch again. I beg him saying if you need to keep the phone for another day keep it but please save my information there I need those he coldheartedly replied sorry sir I can not do anything in that regards I am replacing the phone. I have nothing to say and I did not. Kept silent took the phone with lot of anger on them because I have been there so many times most importantly my data.
Not even one day passed by. The next morning it started like this. I received a call from my wife I could not hear anything so I called her back after may be 10 second. This time I could hear clearly. Therefore, I presume it is probably the connection or network difficulties. Near about 11 am I tried to make a call the key pad, the screen, the PDA pad “what ever it is called” wont work. All it will do is, it will automatically goes to the address book makes some funny noise “plip plip plip” then would show a message “ business card is not found please press ok” something like that not exactly sure. This time I am so frustrated about this phone not one time two times eight different times I have to go back to this people to replace the phone. I felt like I am doing it intentionally and those people probably thinking that I am for sure doing it intentionally. In addition, all those time I did request them that replace my phone with a different model. Nevertheless, this time it is too much to comprehend and too much to consolidate with my frustration and anger. I went there and I gave them the phone they tested it and came with same answer that they are unable to replace it with a different model. I informed them that I have been here eight times now and how many times do you want me to come here and harass you people and me west my time and get harassed at the same time. The person replied sorry we are unable to do anything with this phone and said the evadable “there is something probably you are doing with the phone to get a newer model” I was like what in the hell is wrong with this person. I told him I never requested for a new phone before except this time. I am forced to replace the phone for eight times. I suppose that was the assistant manager he just coldheartedly said we cannot do anything in this regard because this is against our company policy. I asked him I understand it is against your company policy but make me understand why it is your company policy? Moreover, how it end up becoming like this. He did not say anything just replied it is the company policy. This time I become a rebel. I just said buddy I do not want your expensive phone just give me something that I can rely on. Anything that will perform same kind of function I don’t mind a old PDA phone I am not here to jack you guys for a better and newer version phone. All I want is I do not want to come back to you guy again and again waste my time and you are as well. He replied since you are having problem why do not you contact Samsung. I said why I should contact them I bought the phone from you and you people are doing nothing but monopoly business with phone. In addition, most importantly you have your “sprint” logo on the phone. Therefore, you are reliable for any inconvenience for the phone at any time. The phone is indirectly one of sprints product. He said no its not. I asked him if I were to get a non sprint phone “phone with no sprint logo on it” from some place else are you going to connect or activate it he replied no. then I ask him that tells me that you people “sprint or any other company” are doing nothing but monopoly business with the customer because no customer are free from you people. They do not have no choice but come to you people and change the phone with sky rocketing price. Well no point of arguing with this people so I left the store and did not take any phone from them.

Continuation of the first part since my frustration is too long to fit in the text box

In conclusion, my opinion in a broader picture is nothing but this. This big corporation like sprint and others, first make every one of us dependent on their product so much we cannot even think of the conciquesec with out the everyday product that we use. Their business ethic is wrong in many point of view. Because if you buy a phone something like what I have which is still in the market 400+ dollar and if u want to change by selling the phone to them they are willing to give only 75 Dollar in credit. I rather keep that phone as a toy for my dog or trash them instead of giving them another change to make more money reselling the phone or giving them the opportunity to replace another bad phone with another bad phone. They are the one making the contract with the cell phone maker making difficult for the customer to change one phone to a different or new phone. They are the one who made the phone market a close market. In many parts of the world phone company sell their service and the phones are lot cheaper because they are not close or controlled market like in the US where all the big company control the price. The same phone that I have are lot cheaper in other country when I got this phone one year earlier the actual price was 599+tx in some place in Asia same phone can be purchased “ no difference FCC requirement meet” less then 200 us dollar and no need to sign a contract and get your self obligate to stay with them even their service is poor to its extreme limit. And if you become a rebel against them because you know, they are wrong in their own ground and business practice and ethic. There is nothing you or any one can do because its their policy and according to their policy they are considered to be right and we rest of the people are wrong. We are actually helping them to survive with our hard earn money and what they are doing ripping us off. How. Because to argue and solve problem we customer will have to take some time off from our regular schedule of work and talk to a machine for 30 min and then if your lucky enough the machine will not cut you off and will connect you to talk to living breathing human.

The human will simply tell you it is not personal but technical and it is our policy. Nice way of saying F.O.
Well as for my phone and problem, I really do not mind getting some other phone paying another 500-dollar or more. However, I do mind having to go through the same experience with this people because now days the worst commodity for people like us “working men and women” is TIME that we do not have. Now if the big company/ cooperation swindle on you and charge things that you do not need or never ordered you or I do not have the time to talk to them and fix it. Even if we do have time, the machine will not be able to solve any problem just because it is a machine. If we intend to talk to some one then we can simply forget about solving the problem and can continue dreaming that we would be able to have a some kind of conversation with a living breathing human.
Out sourcing is out sourcing just because the company can save money, that should increase the profit of the company, that alone is enough to keep the product they sell in a marginal price instead everything going up. Increase of outsourcing means decrease of US job market and increase in lay off. Where are the ethics and moral go?

Things that I have talk in the paragraph above is not directly related to my problem but it some what describe why things are going the way it is going. May be this is my own rational explanation to my self to over come the frustration and trying to understand my own anger.
Oh my phone is still under warranty

Thank you for taking the time to read my age long expression of frustration in word, my grammar may be wrong in some extent or may at some point offend but I do not intend to“ sorry for the inconvenience”
Thank you again.

I've had Treo's since the 300 and never had a problem. Sounds like a third party application caused you some problems. Every time you tried to synch it to your computer, it started looping. The bad software must have been saved in a backup file.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you. Sprint can be callous and cruel at times, even to themselves.

I did thoroughly enjoy the storytelling itself, though. Your writing style is just fractured enough to be entirely captivating.

Unnamed phone (Samsung SPH-i500?) is a joy when it works, and a pain when it doesn't. BTW - I've used one for almost two years with zero problems, but he's run into almost every problem possible. He used one for months without syncing and lost all his data. Sprint could care less. Sprint wants to be the sole source of phones you can use on their network, but when you have problems they pass you off to the manufacturer. That's not fair.

sounds like a very frustrating experience. i would have to agree w/ an earlier poster, sounds like a third party software problem on your device. the only consistant issues w/ the treo's are the sunspots and screens going out. not to say you are, but from experience, the only time we see customers having this many issues w/ multiple same model phones are caused by third party software that is not covered under warranty (except the n400 and the 5500). the store manager does have the authority to swap you to a different model at his discretion, however, having the same problem on 8 different handsets sounds suspicous. customers used to do things like this all the time to get newer phones (alot are still trying this to get an upgrade from the 600 to 650) and that is one of the reasons warranty exchanges aren't done through customer service anymore without the customer paying for the new phone first.

I'm pretty sure it's not a Treo he's been using because Sprint told him to complain to Samsung. He definitely had software issues, but there were hardware issues (e.g graffiti pad) and "user" issues as well.

Summery of my pain full experience
I have SPH-i500 and this phone went bad 8 different time and I end up getting it changed eight different and the problem started when I tried to synchronized the phone with my pc and matter of fact I did not try it with one pc but 2 different one. One with the desk top and my laptop both have the same issue “fetal exception” later with a message “ failed to initialize” and eventually no power or fall in to a loop where it will never come to the phone mode or any other pal mode. The last was showing “ no business card selected. Go to a name and choose or select business name or a name” yesterday they got me a new phone “bran new” but now I am terrified to synchronized because I don’t want to go back to the unfair sprint. Is there any one who know how to illuminate my problem
Thank you for the help and by the way this is the summarization of my problem thank you for reading my friends out there good luck

I went there with my problem but I never asked for a different model phone until the 8 times I went there. And I care less about the money, sorry if I offend any one. Money is not the issue or buying a phone is not the issue. I would have done that if did not fiend the problem with the phone in store one min after they gave me the refurbished one. The phone would not work then they changed the phone for 3 different times and eventually gave me a brand new phone. If that incident would not occur I was ready to get rid of my pain getting another phone. This is what happen yesterday when I went there some one told another customer that she is suppose to change phones every year or less. However to my understanding its is not because of the customer the sprint had to change their policy abandoning the idea of exchanging phone for a different model. It is solely because of the people who works there and abused the system, since it’s very easy for them to do so. What I have notice none of them have older model phones and every one of have newer phones, yes there are possibilities that some customer happed to do that but I am not sure how many. The other scenario which is best feasible is sprint do not want customer keep their phone for too long they what customer to buy more phones since they are the one who will end up loosing money if they don’t sell phones. Since they have the close market on phones no one else. Simply fear and interruption in necessities seeks for demand. Before I change my service with sprint I was with AT&T I have used phone for a long time no problem with it “ AT&T phone are primarily Nokia”. Sprint phones phone in most cases something mysteriously happens to it. With in a year or so. And one more clarification that I would like to make Sprint eventually authorized me to change model in to trio 600 but I did not take it just prove them its not me who is doing this to get a different phone but to prove them wrong and make them acknowledge that there is something wrong with the phone, and I still have that option and also at the same time they gave me $150 so called upgrade option.

Any way sorry for the inconvenience again its too long I will try to make it short next time

I would suggest that you start by NOT installing any third-party apps until you get everything working. Then only install one app at a time and use it for a while to make sure there are no problems. That way you can isolate which apps are causing crashes. The AIM (AOL Instant Messaging) app is known to have problems. The FSOD (Flashing Screen of Death) can also be caused by doing two hard resets in a row or by swapping batteries while the phone is on. Browse the i500 forum at pdaphonehome.com for other known issues: http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=116

If you don't sync then you are just asking to lose your data again. One known issue (that Samsung mentions in the install instructions) is that you must remove any previous Palm installations on your computer first. Not only unistalling the Palm Desktop etc., but renaming the Palm folders on your hard drive. These folders are not deleted when you uninstall Palm Desktop because they contain backups of your data and apps. Rename the Palm folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\Palm ) something like "Old Palm Stuff" so it won't get recognized when you do your first install (a new Palm folder will be created.) You can then re-install archived stuff later from your old Palm folder.

I've been using an i500 for almost two years and synced with several different laptops and desktops running Win95 and WinXP with few problems, so I know it's not inherent in the phone or software. And as Sanyo7400 pointed out, the odds of eight different phones all being bad is pretty low.

No I have never used any messenger service in this phone I solely use this phone for my business purpose because most of the time I don’t have a pen or a paper with me to write down important things or any sort of important information since I am constantly in meeting or conference. Some time I kill my unproductive time playing the one and only game, which is “atoms” then again in rare occasion. It may be a software problem sprint people asked me to update my software and thanks for providing the link here when I go home today I will defiantly give it a shot see what happens or else I would have end in the sprint store again “unfortunately” but if something happens again indeed I am getting something different. As for now I am manually inputting my important number in the phone. Actually when I saw this phone I fell in love it its one the elegant phone out there in the market, there is no doubt about that
As for reidme thank you for the information that you have provided
