My 7400 is about 5 months old, and for the past month the battery hasn't been holding a charge. For example, Sunday night, I left my phone on the wall charger overnight. I used my phone on Monday morning for about 45 minutes, and my battery had only 1 bar left. Also, my speaker makes a "popping" sound. If I get a call, open the phone, and hit "talk" to answer it, the speaker pops, then I can talk. If I wear a headset, the speaker pops about 1 second after I do anything (navigate menus, dial numbers, etc.).
I took my phone to 2 different Sprint stores, and they tell me that there are no problems, but there CLEARLY IS!!!!!!!!
What do I need to do to convince them that there is a problem. A friend said just to buy a new battery, but why should I spend money on something that should be replaced????????
Am I talking out of my a**, or do I really have an issue????????
ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks...
Ken

i feel your pain. im on my fourth 7400 right now. this refurb i got a couple weeks ago. the screen was scratched when i got it, and the hinge doesnt even click. but the worst thing is that it drops calls left and right. literally, every single time someone calls me, when i pick up, i can say hello to them then the call drops. and about every third time i try to call someone else it will drop. ive taken mine to three different stores and they wont do a thing. they give me the "it checked out fine" excuse. one chick at the first store i went to had the balls to tell me that i was hitting the end button with my face and that was causing it. another person told me that my phone was probably in roaming and that was causing it. i think i know when my phone is roaming because i wont accept the call.

I'm glad I'm not the only one... the one about your face and the End button, that's a new one!!! You should have told her "yea, I have a big zit that gets in the way, maybe that's it..." Unbelievable...
So, now I'm stuck with a crappy phone, and I have to carry my wall charger with me because I'd need to charge my phone during the day... sucks...

For the battery issue you should see if they will swap you out for a extended life battery, they can do that for CS reasons, we do it after about the 5th time someone comes into the store with an issue involving the battery. Usually that fixes the problem. One question is which charger are you using the standard or sanyo? It may ot sound like it makes a difference but the standard port may be broken or loose so it is not charging the phone properly.

In the car, I use a charger I got from the Sprint store, and it uses the rectangular port. The wall charger is the one I got with the phone and it has a barrel plug. whe I use either charger, the phone beeps, and says it's charging, and the battery indicator changes to the "charging" icon.
I dunno.... thanks much for the reply.

I am running into problems on my 2 month old 7400. The first 7400 was a refurb I had to fight tooth and nail to get the charger and faceplate. It was swapped when my toshi broke. Then when I left the store, it wouldn't connect to the network and after 2 hours on the phone with tech support they told me to take it back. Went back to the store, the refurb failed all the tests and they told me they wouldn't replace it. I argued with the manager and he finally said that they are giving me a brand new 7400 but if there are any problems, I am SOL, they won't help me. That whole thing upset me beyond belief.
Now I am having a charging problem, poor sound quality, the speaker phone pops unfortunately and they won't update my software as they say I dont' need and or it doesn't exist. I am so upset with them. I am pretty much stuck with this phone and the headaches that come along with it.
Only a few more months left in my contract.. . . . .

THat is awful. See thats why people leave sprint because of the foolish employees give the company a bad name and don't help the customer. They act like there going to have to pay for the damn phone!! All hell would have broke loose if they done me like that. If all the tests failed then how are they gonna say there not replacing it. Thats insane. DId you talk to the supervisor or something??

so i just got back from the third store, nearly an hour away from my house, to try to get my phone fixed. got there at 2, they said it would take an hour to look at. i come back at 3:30, they say its still not done. i come back at 4:15, and i have to work at 5, nearly an hour away. after waiting for 3 old ladies to talk to the reps about how to use their phones, they finally gave me mine. the receipt said they updated the software, which is impossible because it already was the newest (1.030sp i believe), and updated the prl. so again, im pissed, late for work, ans stuck with a phone that still drops calls.
but now there is a new problem. on my way home i wanted to drive through somewhere to get a burger. so i pull out my phone to get on the web, and hit the web button. Error 2048 network busy, try again later. i said screw it, maybe the tower im on isnt working right. so i get all the way to work, almost 50 miles away, obviously on a new tower, and i still get the same error. cant upload pics, cant update vision profile. so now im very pissed. when i get some free time here at work im calling cs, and demanding i get a replacement phone sent to my house (not making me drive an hour to pick it up). if they wont do that, im cancelling my service. i believe ive gone though enough over the past few months: 4 phones, 3 stores, almost 1200 miles on my car driving to these stores.....

That is total BS. All of those 7400's were waranted under Sanyo/Sprint. If they tell you otherwise, it's time to get dirty, and I mean dirty. I would never put up with such nonsense.
I guess that's telling, becasue when I wanted to get a replacement for my A620, I had to literally yell at the rep to tell him that I DID NOT want a refurbed A740 (this was after I asked him for an A700), finally gave my an A680. Idiots.

A couple things you can do to keep the battery charged longer
1. turn off the freggin ready link you will notice a big difference in that
2. make sure your in sprint and not roaming
3. dont put your phone on the charger overnight all it needs is a couple hours to charge your phone overcharging your phone will cause your battery to die quicker
try these things to see if it works if not you got a bunk phone

This rule might have applied 5 years ago, but not now, OEM chargers know when to stop charging.

I left the charger in almost every other night I owned the A620. I had no problems with the battery after the 1 year I owned it. Do the same exact thing with my A680. No battery issues. The status LED will go from red (charging) to green (completed), and the LED on the Sprint charger I have turns green also, signifying it is done. No overcharging problems.

Same here with all my Sanyos. Right now I have a 7400 that's about 5 1/2 months old. I put it on the charger every night, and I rarely see it go below full charge. Same with my previous 8100 that I had for a 18 months. I've had no problems with my 7400. Bummer that you have, but hopefully Sprint will make it good.
Any don't the phones control the charging rate these days, not the charger?

Called Sprint CS this morning, unfortunately got a rep that didn't speak English too well (go figure...) so all I got from the call is a tracking number, so I guess they are going to send me a new phone, without paying I assume.
Glad I got a good rep the first time. We'll see what happens....

Yep, sprint collections............... dont matter who paid a bill for you once upon a time.. if a CC number is on your account they are more than willing to charge it without you even being the owner of said card!

3.charge your phone overcharging your phone will cause your battery to die quicker
THAT'S the biggest myth about cell phones. that's 100% not true. there is no way to overcharge your phone, except using an unapproved charger. your phones processor has a cycle check to see how much battery charge the phone has. when it is getting charged, the processor checks on it perodically. when it is full, it will only power the phone without a charge.

I agree, except with the "unapproved charger" bit...
All the charging logic is in the *phone* itself... You're absolutely right, the phone is smart and can turn off current to the battery.
However, why would using an unapproved charger matter? All the charger does is provide the juice -- There is no logic in the charger that shuts off power.
Granted, you might be more likely to get power spikes - but even then, that's not a very likely possibility...

With a bad car charger you could get up to 13.8 volts into your phone, which I bet would be a BIG deal. Most chargers sold in stores like walmart and target are made by good companies. Ones sold by some face plate, flashy antenna and case cart in the mall for $2.99........... i'd steer clear!
about 6months with the 7400, and over the last month i started having charging problems, the barrel pin, the phone would be stationary and it would be beeping on and off (charge/no charge) I would wiggle, jiggle, twist and turn until the little arrow stayed on meaning it was charging
so I finailly purchased a charger from daydeal, can anyone tell me if this an approved charger?

By a new battery off Ebay. They are new batteries and they are pretty good. Every time I get a new phone I always get two batteries. The original battery it comes with and an extended battery. I keep em' both charged and I keep both on me cause you never know when you might need some extra time. Plus walking around with a charger is a hassle unless you have a car :) Anyhow if you dont try ebay (I havent had a prob with my ebay battery) then try daydeal.com or go to the sprint store and by another battery.
