View Full Version : Cingular EDGE, GPRS Down ALL THE TIME

It seem like I see threads on HOFO constantly reguarding outages relating to Cingular and their data network. I for one find this unacceptable, especially when I've been hearing about this crap PRE-MERGER...

Pathetic on their part

Have you USED their EDGE network recently? If not, you may want to wait to judge something, you know, before you use it. Not like you do that.. ever.. :deal:

I have. I'll get spikes of activity followed by long wait times. Good thing I'm not paying for it, or I'd be pissed. Especially if I actually needed to be connected, which I don't.

Love how these threads bring out the 3 non sprint users on the board.....say something wrong with there company and they are always the first to knock it on sprint.......the statement is made about cingulars network.....he didnt ask how sprints network is.....he obviously knows.....he has it......he also didnt say cingulars network is bad......he stated that he had read it in cingular threads.....if you dont have issues with there network then that is great....and sure, you can defend it and tell us about your good experiences.......

I visit the hofo cingular forum quite often and I don't see the edge/gprs threads "constantly reguarding[sic] outages" she speaks of. It just seems easy to poke fun of stuff you have no experience with, and ignore the same things in your own world.

I don't defend cell providers as they all have problems- I do call out biases which have no basis in fact.

Well if you would have called him or her out on that it would have been more educational.....I dont look through Cingular forums so if someone posts there are lots of issues posted in them I would tend to beleive them.....by saying it is not true, and you frequently visit them says alot more to me then posting a link to topics about sprints network.....because what that says to me is, it is true and cingulars network has all these problems but you are trying to get the focus off of that and say sprints network has problems......I for one love sprints network and rarely have problems with it.....I dont know how cingulars network is because everyone I know who has Cingular does not use the internet on it.......as a matter of fact, it is mostly people with sprint that I know who use there web on there phone...... i think maybe because sprint makes it so easy.....$10-15 and use it all you want.....has alot of information on there own built wap setup also.......I think with other company's people are kind of confused with the packages and dont really understand how it works........

Its $20 for unlimted MediaNET.

I don't come here to attack Sprint; I come here to get and spread information, just like everyone else. Whenever I see an inaccuracy, I will point it out, whether with Sprint, Cingular, Verizon, etc. etc. I'm not here to flame Sprint; I'm here to flame TuTu :) jk lol.

I just looked on Cingulars site.....it says for $20 you get 8megs and $25 for unlimited.......is there media net the same as regular web or is that something else you need to pay for.......so unless you have there $25 plan you really cant get mobi-tv or anything else they offer that streams......wonder why they charge so much.....considering even verizon lowered there prices with the roll out of ev-do.......

Those people on HoFo are just whiners. Sheesh. Tutu, you punk, you owe me dinner.
I know you're just trying to draw us out ... you know who I mean. But, I'm not gonna take the bait. Oh, wait. Crap. I just did. Damn.

Anyway, there are definitely threads at HoFo whining about GPRS being down. I have had problems once in the entire time I've had it. I had problems a couple times with Sprint's Vision, too. And text messaging, and SMS and so on and so on. Why we're even talking about it here ... *sigh*

I'm just going to ignore eman and madsexy since they're both lacking some context when it comes to tutu and I'll give them both the benefit of the doubt.

How many EV-DO phones does Verizon have ATM?

And what does Verizon's equivalent to Vision cost per month?

I dunno because my husband didn't need that stuff and since I ported him from Verizon I pretty much have stopped paying attention to Verizon.

I still think its attrocious that Mobile Web (not VCAST) costs minutes. Pathetic. Not to mention how poorly designed Verizon's WAP access is. Graphics few and far between, my bookmarks do not work (they are stored server-side, not client-side), and OpenWave sucks on this phone (Samsung a670).

Heh, the folks at engadget...or was it gizmodo?...were impressed with the aircards. Let's see, the VX8000...not familiar with the other two phones.

I guess I'll have to do some comparisons, but IIRC Verizon's equivalent of Vision was more expensive and less user-friendly.

How many EV-DO phones does Verizon have ATM?

And what does Verizon's equivalent to Vision cost per month? They have three currently, the ones which Matt already covered. There's two very big ones on the brink for May-July, Motorola's new high-end E815 (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=663) and LG's new CDMA flagship VX-8100 (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=665). Samsung's also got the a970 which will also be coming to Sprint in the form of the a940.

As for their "Vision-like" plans, Verizon doesn't have any. It's the main thing which drove me from them to Sprint in the first place. As sneak reiterated, they have this $4.99 mobile web add-on which subtracts from your minutes. Even today, if you have regular mobile web it continues to do so. There are no packages, just a bunch of different add-ons you can put together. It's basically VCAST or nothing, and even that'll be blown away by whatever EV-DO plans/packages Sprint comes up with.

I think we've deviated from the topic about: Cingular EDGE, GPRS Down ALL THE TIME

I'm assumming that services being down are related to a particular area. Thus the term outage, usually refers to a particular area or market.

Are people complaining in a certain market of these services being down?

While you are correct, steb, I don't try to go off-topic unless either A) the OP's problem has been solved or B) the topic was worthless to begin with. tuolumne isn't a Cingular customer, this was just some random rant about people that don't even have anything to do with this community. Far as I'm concerned, it's wide open for the taking.

It'll get moved; it's only a matter of time.

There are indeed complaints from time to time on HoFo about GPRS being down. I have briefly experienced that with my SE T616. I have not experienced any issues with EDGE. But, that stuff happens on any network. And of course we've deviated off-topic. This is off-topic to begin with and it doesn't help that there are people around here who have an unabiding hatred for all things non-Sprint when it comes to cell phones.

Some people get their identities too intertwined with their cell phone carriers. This isn't politics or religion. Some people need to chill out.

What may be great for someone, might not be good for you.

Now the world dont move to the beat of just one drummer, what might be good for you, might not be good for some, it takes different strokes, it takes, different strokes to move the worrrllllllld!!!!!

People! I never started this thread for it to be like this. In case you don't remember, I have had Cingular Wireless service. With my experiences of a GPRS shortage two times here, and then constantly (or so it seemed) reading about outage failures all around the country on Howard Forums, one new thread I saw reguarding the same situation pushed me to post this thread. Hell, maybe I was just on Howard Forums at the right times to read the threads, but I swear, I always seemed to see threads like that in the Cingular section.

Don't get me wrong, Cingular has the best voice quality I have ever heard, and their SIM support is too nice. Please don't knock this thread with speculation that I am "trying to gain sympathy" or "trying to knock Cingular", because I'm not.

Hope you don't fall asleep waiting for that slow-ass GPRS transfer to go through...

It's BT, so why should that take into effect?

Cingular is bad, I had em, used em, rocked their most expensive offerings, and it still left me dissapointed. The GPRS was a joke compared to vision, the only cool thing was you get to preview stuff before you buy it. But for the most part, very horrible service. There, I said it.

Quillhill said he had to transfer stuff to his RAZR and said that he hopes GPRS isn't down, I assumed he was going to transfer stuff OTA. =)

Sorry, I was being sarcastic about the GPRS thing. Heh. Yeah, I am going to use the BT dongle I bought for my PC when I first switched.

I love that people think I'm a dude. Cracks me up. Do I have a certain macho online swagger? LOL

i think its because a) quill likes gadgets, b) quill, as my Illinois-based second cousin once termed, "takes no guff from no one", and c) could reduce someone to a quivering mass of inarticulate jelly with a few chosen words.

Have you USED their EDGE network recently? If not, you may want to wait to judge something, you know, before you use it. Not like you do that.. ever.. :deal:
