View Full Version : FOCUS Update & Questions Here
First of all, starting today, Focus will be undergoing an update to ensure that it be working for our users as it once did...
This may take some time to complete, so please be patient as the work is being done, and we will do our best to complete the updating as quickly as possible.
Secondly, I continue to hear a "few" people spreading the rumor of past management using Focus to harvest phone numbers and then perform illegal activities with those phone numbers. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE! Focus doesn't even harvest, save, or remember any phone numbers. The program was written in that way on purpose. I do not plan to change this. Let me be very clear once again, Focus doesn't harvest phone numbers. When the user submits the Focus upload request, their phone number is passed STRAIGHT to Sprint's site. Focus was built this way to ensure privacy *and* use Sprint's messaging gateway instead of SU's servers to send out the download notifications.
Let this thread be THE place to post questions about the Focus program as well as any bugs once we get it working again. Thanks!

Lee this is in no way a critique of the new management but as a member of this site one cant help but raise an eyebrow over the remarkable coincidences- Dave stepping down and you taking over, rumors start appearing, Focus stops working. All this with little to no defense by those that were implicated in the rumors (I could be wrong about this point but I havent been able to find anything tp prove otherwise).
Okay, I understand the concerns and that is why I addressed them above. Focus is working for many users, and some of the glitches with Focus currently have to do with the server move as well. We will work to correct everything, and I assure you that I am honest and only have the best of intentions for SU moving forward. Thanks!

Im certainly willing to give and the new management the benefit of the doubt. Even if there is or was anything suspicious going on they seem to pre-date you. My concerns are more centered on specific members/former mods-admins.

Very well, and understand that I as the new management want to move on from all of the speculation and build SU in to all it can be...:D
BTW, how much have you contributed so I can move you over in to the new Supporter program...
Focus has never harvested numbers. The people who claim it has are users who were banned from posting to SprintUsers for disrespecting our guidelines. Those idiots are attempting to retaliate by fabricating unsubstantiated information.

This is possibly Dave's best post ever. :headbang2
Haven't tried Focus just yet, but it has worked for me about 99% of the time. Great work.

Unfortunately, I can think of one moron still spreading that claim. Haven't seem him in THIS forum, lately, though.

Are you able to give us an estimate as to when the focus tool will be working again?
Could it be a few days or a couple of weeks? Thanks for any info.
It should be within days, possibly today :D

I always have, and continue to use the Rumkin uploader. You can upload Java Midlets, something you cannot do with focus...
http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/
Funny how they claim that Sprint Users ripped off their FAQ: "Their own software that will send files to your phone. They stole large portions of my FAQ and regurgitated it in their own FAQ. Thanks for the lack of credit."
Who wants to fess up for this one, as they are both very similar...
I also remember that MRTRIPOD who had documents about secret forums that were quickly deleted. He gave working links that all of a sudden quit working. He also had a scan of a printout with members names who I no longer see posting on this board.
Lee were you aware of this?
Dave also deleted the thread about the topic....how strange is that?
not sure what you are talking about, so I guess not...

Ohh, please. :eyebrow:
Build a website that becomes wildly successful and the banned idiots will always be on a crusade to drive away traffic.
Those bottom-feeders just continue their 'internet-revenge crusade' by fabricating information with absoultely no facts to back anything up.
I built SU to be a positive website for online discussion. Because the success of the forum relies on increasing numbers, we have only done positive things to further the community. Lee is continuing to build SprintUsers.com in a positive manner.
The previously banned will continue to troll around as long as people will read what they make up: false accusations with nothing to back them up.
Speaking of previously banned... The user Pope that I am replying to is none other than Tripod himself!

Oh well...I guess everyone has their own reasons for hating...I for one could care less...everyone has their own opinion on some things, and others feel that dragging people's names in the mud on some internet forum makes them happy, so for them, its all good...the people that know myself and Dave respect us, so it doesnt matter what others think

I don't know anything about banned users, and who said what about who, and who stole this FAQ and what not. All I know is that the Focus tool is pretty sweet. Excellent tool, and the price is absolutely right. FREE!
I do have one small question about loading wallpapers using Focus. Currently, my phones screen size is not listed under the resize button for wallpapers. (Samsung A740) What do I do to make one fit on my phone?
Thanks for the cool stuff, Focus, this site, everything. I love it here. I have learned so much here, I cannot even begin to explain. Keep up the good work.

I believe the dimensions for the a740 are 128x112. Just select a different phone with this size and you'll be fine.

I second this! This is my first post but when I had a question about the site, my concern was handled quickly and professionally. The people that spread rumors are the same people that think The Inquirer prints the truth! lol :haha:
Keep up the awesome work Lee. I, too, think this site rocks!!

I really dont see why the people accused of doing this would risk that much "just to mess with someone." If they did those things it wouldnt have lasted to long. Sprint would have investigated and SU probably would have been shut down. IMO.

I'm kinda new to this site. But I just have one question. I was wondering does Sprint charge for these Premium Telecom Services? Because when I got my bill, I was charged for ringers that I didn't even have. They were texted to me by someone else and I was charged for it. Can someone explain to me how this works and if we are charged for using the uploader? Thanx

If you were charged for something you didn't get or didn't ask for call sprint and explain it to them and most likely you will be able to get those charges removed. Provide them with as much detail as possible. You shouldn't normally be having other sites charging you for ringers unless somehow you requested it, like sending a text message to a certain number or visiting a site and entering your phone number (which as I've read they wait for a responding acceptance sms before sending you the ringer and billing you) Besides ringers Sprint does charge you for what is called "Premium SMS" which is something you sign up for at another site or business , like joke of the day or zodiac forecast and they can bill you like something like from 50 cents to 5 bucks (or was it 10 bucks...I forgot) These services don't just stumble upon you, you have to subscribe to them somewhere. Call sprint.
If I didn't understand your question correctly and it indeed had something more related to Focus, then I hope someone will jump in and give you some more info.
Hope you get it worked out.

Sounds to me like you perhaps don't have a Vision/Power Vision plan. In which case you are charged per KB downloaded. There is no charge for using uploaders like Focus, assuming you have a data (Vision/Power Vision) and SMS plan.
SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
