View Full Version : i500 Graffiti question

I never though I'd hear myself say this, but I'm considering ditching my Treo 650 and getting a Samsung i500. The pocketable form factor of the i500 overrides virtually every superior feature of the 650.

But I have one reservation. While I'm not excited about going back to Graffiti, I can live with it -- but I hate, hate Graffiti 2 and it would definitely be the dealbreaker. I can't find any specs that tell me which version it runs, though I'm inclined to think version 1. Can anyone tell me? Thanks.

It runs the original graffiti.
Welcome to the i500!

Just picked up the i500 yesterday. I'm having trouble getting my data from the 650 synched over to the i500, but I'll figure that out soon enough. Aside from a slight ambivalence about going back to low res, I have to say I love this phone. I never realized how unconsciously self-conscious I was using the Treo (instead of a conventional-looking phone), and how much I love walking around with a phone hanging off my belt. Somewhat retro technologically, but it fits my PIM-centric usage pattern to a T.

Your sync problem could be that your going from a OS 5.4 back to a OS 5.1. There may be a few problems in that area. Also, make sure you put a different username (phone Owner) on the I500 from the 650 to get the initial sync, then you can change the username later to the one that you want.

You can sync the phonebooks between the two usernames and then delete the 650's hotsync and change the name on the I500 back to your original username and keep that. You can also IR port the rest of your info directly from phone to phone.

I enjoyed the I500 when I had it, but, unlike you, I needed speaker phone, and a larger screen.

I actually am thinking about buying another I500 as one of my SPCS buddies wants to sell both of his to get the PPC6601. I may jump on it as he has all the accessories with it.

I still have a complete box of stuff that came w/ the phone, so this would give me another desktop dual slot charger, and 2 more batteries.

Enjoy the phone. Make sure you keep it clean, as this has been what I've been told kills this particular phone rather quickly.

Check the boards at www.pdaphonehome.com for tips on setting up your i500. There is extensive information there. As I remember, you have to disable the photo conduit and one other conduit in order to sync.

good luck.
