"All right, after many a false sighting and tons of sketchy pics (the Xbox 360 was starting to give the Virgin Mary a run for her money), our sources are confirming that this is really it."

The new look will get a few haters, but the majority of people will feel it. Why? Because it looks like a legitimate Apple design. It looks like it should have a lowercase "I" in front of the word Xbox.
It's also rumored to have wireless controllers, but nobody has been able to confirm that yet.
It will be unveiled on an MTV special called "MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed." Scheduled for May 12th at 9:30pm ET. Won't hit shelves until later this year, though. Talking late Q3 or Q4 2005.
ibox....hmm... I LOVE IT!

I highly doubt that that picture shows a real 2nd Generation Xbox. However, it wouldn't surprise me too much. It would just mean that Microsoft screwed up again.

And this should be the nail in the coffin:

fever was right, that first pic looks like some type of conceptual artwork, but this last one looks official.

I'm glad the On button is smaller in the second pic. I've read (from gamespot) that the xbox 360 may be able to stand on its side (like the PS2).
From these pictures we can't see controller ports on the system. So maybe it'll have wireless controllers. Wireless controllers are pretty cool. Hopefully all the next generation systems have them. I can't wait till the xbox 360 is released.
I'm a huge perfect dark fan i hope that the prequel/sequel for the xbox 360 kicks butt.

Eh... the side of it looks like a "genericized" version of the G5. That said, I wish they would've gone for a more monolithic appearance. I mean, just because it's silver doesn't mean it's an Apple ripoff- Apple didn't invent silver (although let's be honest- Apple designs are always look 'perfected.') , but they could've done a better job.

who cares what it looks like? i wanna know what it plays like. this aint no fashion show really. just gimme some mind blowing graphics. similar but not limited too the absolute work of art that is dead or alive 3. it could be fuschia colored for all i care. i mean really, its not like u stare at the system when u play your games, u look at the TV

That side pic looks real enough, and close to the ourcolony.net pic, so maybe that's a semi-final design. If so, I hope it only "looks" like it's concave in the center (or am I thinking of convex?), otherwise, yeah. Suck.
Thankfully the power button is smaller.

I like how the "Xbox2" Development Kits are Apple dual proc G5's with "black" hardware. I wonder why, lol.

No, I meant that I hope the design is concave, not the actual box. You can make something look concave without it actually being so.

Still up in the air if that is silver or white. I think it looks more silver.
Whats more interesting is that it still looks like a PC. PS doesn't look PC-ish, Gamecube barely looks PC-ish. But the look and drive bay (CD) on this one screams mini-PC.

I think it'll be silver. No way will Microsoft follow Apple in this. Like I said before, I've always thought it was interesting that Sony claims the PS2 to be a "Computer Entertainment System", when it so clearly isn't, while Microsoft calls the Xbox a "Video Game System" when it so clearly is much more. I have no problems with it being a "mini-PC", since it is. Hell, it'll be more powerful in terms of GPU than pretty much anything else available. And if it truly does use a Cell, then it'll be the first time I can remember where a console was more state-of-the-art than the latest home-built machine.

But the look and drive bay (CD) on this one screams mini-PC.That's why I'm betting this turns out to be more than a mere "video game system." I think Microsoft is going to market the Xbox 360 as something bigger, like a multi-media device. That would explain such stress on design, and perhaps even the term "360," in other words "it covers everything."
Ohhh, watch out now. Bronze Supporter, high stepping. Can't touch me now.
If anyone's read the game informer with the old school James Bond (Sean Connery) on it, the article about the next gen systems says that Xbox 360 will NOT come with a harddrive, and that it will NOT use the Blu-ray HD-DVD drive. Instead they may offer the harddrive as an optional add-on, and that they will use the standard DVD drive. I think both are big mistakes, because the harddrive is what made the xbox so unique and different from the ps2 (although sony overall has bi+chslapped microsoft in terms of many many more sales of ps2s than xboxes...xboxs...?) Plus Sony's new Cell processor can essentially eliminate loading time as it can run 10 different processes at once...although generate more heat in the process. Also the HD-DVD drive that Sony will use will have massive amounts of storage per disc (around 50 gigs).
I think I'll wait til 2006 for the PS3.
Oh yeah, and Nintendo's controller may just be a touch screen. Yup. that's all.

Well, the PS2 had what, 2 years on the Xbox in terms of Sales? The pictures that are popping up of the "2nd Xbox" look like they have a HD, 40Gb. With 40Gb, the new Xbox could use standard DVD hardware and discs and get something like 12Gb on a standard disc, compressed, and uncompress it on the hard drive. So not supporting Blu-Ray or HD-DVD isn't that big of a deal. They're different, by the way.
From everything I've read, the "Xbox 2" is slated to use a TRIPLE-core processor, each core running at 64bit. While the CELL processor should be pretty sweet, I can't imagine the "PS3" fully taking advantage of something that's still half-unfinished. The CELL processor isn't Sony's, it's IBM's, and the processor going into the "Xbox 360" will also be made by IBM.
I don't think Sony is willing to make the "PS3" all that it can be, simply because it can't afford to. Microsoft is willing to LOSE money on the hardware. Sony doesn't have that luxury. I also don't think they're willing to release a console that's more than $399. I hope Sony waits until 2006. They might stand a chance.
