my 5500 recently developed a problem where it does not want to charge correctly - basically i'll plug in the charger and it will start to charge and then stop, like it was unplugged even though it's still connected and needs charging. i bought an additional charger thinking maybe that was the problem, but the problem still persists. i also tried another battery - no difference. so, i was thinking about filing a claim with lockline. on my sprint bill it says "Equip Prot $3 Ins. Premium & $2 Enh Wrty" for a total of $5 monthly which i believe covers replacement. i've had the phone since december 2003 so the factory warranty no longer applies. so i guess my questions are 1) would this problem be covered by lockline? 2) what would it probably be replaced with? 3) if it's a different model, what can i do with my current 5500? i.e. could i sell if someone wanted to try to fix it or for parts or something? 4) one more thing, in addition to the deductible ($50 i think) would i also have to pay sprint for "new phone activation" or whatever they call it? thanks.

1)Lockline should cover.
2)Another 5500, they are still in stock.
3)You will have to send yours in using the box they send you.
4)No. You will receive the phone and activate over the phone. No extra cost.

there have actually been some instances of lucky individuals getting a 5600 as a replacement, but odds are that they will more likely replace the 5500...as the above poster stated, it will cost you $50 and you will need to send back the old one, or you will be charged...

Also FYI..... if you get the flat charger that should solve your problem. Tho it's really a toss-up since you're only paying $10 to get a new phone thru Lockline, plus the chance of getting a 5600.

ok, i'm a little confused - is the deductible $10 or $50? i thought it was $10 if there was some type of failure on the phone and $50 if it was lost or stolen... thanks

From what I understand, the $10 is if it's normal wear and tear, and $50 if it's something you did (i.e. dropping in water, loss, etc.)

Ok, so I decided to call lockline today regarding the charging problem my 5500 is having. After answering a series of questions (did i drop it - no, when did this happen, etc) the guy tells me I have to take the phone to a sprint store and let one of the techs look at it and determine if there is a problem...and then once the tech determines that a problem exists, I'm supposed to call lockline back from the sprint store and get the sprint tech to talk with lockline... What? Now, I've never had to call lockline before or filed any sort of claim, but this sounds like a complete pain the @ss. Is this normally how this process goes or is there another method I should try? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The charging problem would go under wear & tear, which means he'd only have to pay $10.

I'm actually having the same problem with my phone. It will charge at first, but then usually when I wake up in the morning and use the phone a little bit, its hardly charged at all/if any. Sometimes when I plug it in, it makes those charging on/charging off beeping sounds. Mucho aggravating.
I'm thinking about placing a claim myself. The phone is less than a year old for another month and a half, is it still covered under warranty? Also, anyone know the likelihood of me getting a red replacement 8200? I really love my red one, and the thought of getting a silver one makes me want to wretch. :indiff:
Thanks..

I would be hesitant using that $10 figure...in over three years selling Sprint, I only hear about the $35 (old) and $50 (new) charges...someone is going to try and hold you to that ten somehow, no matter how illogical...

Lockline number is 1800 584-3666 and it is 50 dollars you can send your phone in for repair for free or do the insurance claim and pay the $50 up to you I tell people if you have a back up phone then send it in and save $50

The following is taken directly from the lockline website under their FAQ: Sprint Total Equipment Protection Program
"Replacements made under the Enhanced Warranty Service Contract, which covers mechanical and electrical failure from defect and normal wear and tear, will only require a $10 processing fee to complete the replacement request. NO OTHER DEDUCTIBLE APPLIES.
Replacements made under the Equipment Replacement Program, which covers losses as a result of lost equipment, theft, water and accidental damage, will require a $50 deductible to complete the replacement request."
So back to my last question, is it common for them to tell you to go to the store to have a tech check out the phone, determine it has a problem, call lockline from the store and have the sprint tech speak with the lockline rep? As I stated earlier, I have never made any claims before, but that kinda seems like a hassle. In regards to just calling back and saying I lost the phone, 1) the guy said he would "notate the account with my call" and 2) $10 is a lot easier to swallow than $50 given my current employment, or lack thereof, situation. Thanks!

Erm, well I guess a little more reading on their FAQ page answers my question:
"For replacements due to mechanical and electrical failure, you may simply take your equipment with mechanical or electrical failure to any participating Sprint PCS store, and upon approval of your request and collection of the $10 processing fee, you will be provided with replacement equipment. You can also continue to call lock\line at 1-800-584-3666 and, after approval of your request and collection of the $10 processing fee, a replacement phone will be delivered to you, typically within 3 business days."

Both Sprint (for warrantee situations) and Lockline enjoy sending you to a sprint store in order for a tech to confirm a malfunction with the unit.
The tech confirms the problem (which is difficult if it is an intermittent issue) and then the transaction commences.
If the tech can wiggle a charging wire or connector, and make it work they mght determine and conclude that your handset is working just peachy.
I would suggest speaking with a manager making him or her aware of the lockline's rep's request for you to bring your handset to the store before releasing the handset to a rep and tech in the store.
It typically takes 1 full business day (less than 3 business days) to receive your new package.
Good luck
Thanks
Mike

I have read about 20 different conflicting posts here. Please let me clarify.
If you have the TEP (total equipment protection) during the first year of ownership the phone in covered under the manufacturers warranty UNLESS the phone is abused such as water damage, impact, theft or if it is lost. Under those examples you are required to pay a $50 deductable to get a new phone. If the phone is outside the warranty period but the phone exhibits the type of problem that would be covered under warranty if it had one, then you would only have to pay a $10 fee for the store to order you a new phone, otherwise the $50 deductable would apply.
I regards to this particular instance SANYO owners PLEASE TAKE NOTE. If you are using a barrel plug charger, then there is a good chance you will experience a charging failure ESPECIALLY if you use a car charger, as the stress on the pin from the cord will weaken the pin. This is not a reason to get a new phone either from warranty or from lockline. 99% of the time all you need to do is exchange the charger(S) for the Sanyo style charger in a Sprint store. Please do not create unnecessary claims to lockline, because I know that you are the same people that will be complaining when the deductable goes up to $75 because of all the pointless claims.

Just using a flat charger isn't a great fix, especially if you have multiple barrel chargers (I have like 80 around here) and a car charger. Take it in, pay the $10, and get a refurbed 5500.

But then you'd have the same problem down the line eventually.

thanks for the advice!
you're welcome.
As for the other post:
I will add that a refurb handset is also warranteed for 6 months.
The same free exchange policy is in effect during the warr. period.
This has nothing to do with putting in claims with lockline; this is a warantee issue.
Thanks

Honestly, that should not be happening. If they have to "wiggle" it to get it to charge, then they noticed that it will not charge sometimes.
For Sanyo phones, the barrel connector is exchanged with the flat charger (swapping out the phone will only make you have to come back again). This is what the manufacturer is authorizing.

I agree.
What carrier brings the replacement to your house? Is it UPS, FedEX, or USPS? I was just curious cuz its been 3 days since i called lockline and still no replacement. I NEED my phone! How do they expect me to walk this green earth without it?
Thanx

It's $10, not $50. $50 is if the device was clearly damamged by the user, or the phone is lost/stolen.

Exactly! The barrel plug has always had a problem with Sanyo since it started showing up after 8100 and they will happily replace your charger with a Sanyo charger, if you have a car charger, bring it in too and I am sure they will replace it. I would bring the charger in if your phone is in mint condition and its just the charging issue. If the phone is scratched and worn, pay the $10 and have them fix it or replace it. I heard some people were getting 7400's for 5500 replacements.

Well what I did when I had that same problem was I went to the Sprint Store and had their techs look at it for an hour. Came back and they told me that they were ordering me a new phone and I would come back in a week to pick it up. It was under the warranty of the phone so it was FREE. No charges whatsoever.

Thats actually what I did this morning, just went up there and they swapped out my car and home chargers for the flat adapter ones. My phone is still in pretty decent shape, so I figured I'd just stick with it for now...but I'm eligible for my rebate in June so I'm thinking about getting something new, just not real sure about the two options I was considering (5600 & a800)...thats a whole different discussion though ;)
